It is legal to go from a pistol to a rifle. Providing the stock is added after the 16" barrel has been added. It is NOT legal to add a stock before adding the 16" barrel. Dolomite

Idea regarding background checks
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
What part of what I said what I said regarding tax is different from what goes on now? How about all checks are free? If a criminal is going to be a criminal and sell a gun then there is nothing that can be done. And in those cases prosecute those that are caught and sentence them to stiffer penalties. As it stands right now most criminals serve less than 10% of their original sentence. If a legal, legitimate seller goes to sell a gun and finds out the buyer is a criminal I would hope they would do what is right. I know I would even if it is a face to face transaction. And as it stands right now my brother can buy a gun from anyone here. There is no way for anyone here, other than me, to know my brother cannot own a firearm. So anyone here could conceiveable sell him a firearm. We, as legal gun owners, need to distance ourselves from those who are not legal gun owners. Dolomite -
I got to thinking and everyone I know or talk to do not want background checks because it is a defacto registration. That is because the guns you buy are listed on your background and their serial numbers are checked at the same time as you. And I suspect they keep records now even though they deny it. What would you think if the background check did not list the firearm, how many or what type you bought? Basically you walk in and if you decide you want to buy a firearm you have a background check completed before picking out any firearms. Then after you pass you are allowed to pick out whatever gun you want and pay for it with no reporting of what you bought to the background check system. That way there is no serial number tied to you on a national level. The FFL will keep a record, like they do now, of the firearm info and who bought it but it will only be stored locally. The firearm information will only be added to the locally stored record after the background has been completed. For face to face transactions the seller and buyer go to a FFL. The FFL completes a background on the buyer then the seller and buyer exchange the weapon without the FFL ever inspecting the weapon. For face to face transactions it must not cost the buyer or seller anything. But for a person buying a gun in the shop's inventory the same background fees as now. As a consequence of this make 18 the age limit for all guns, not just rifles. For those of you who don't know I do have a personal stake in this. I have a metally ill brother who is also a heavy drug user. He has tried to kill my family and I in the past yet he still gets firearms regularly. Dolomite

Leave them loaded. In 2004 or 2005 I found an AR magazine that belonged to my father. It was loaded with 20+ rounds and the last time he was in a unit where he had mags was in the mid 80's. I dumped the ammo out and loaded it up with fresh ammo and it shot fine. Dolomite

In reality though what is a bolt gun in 223 going to be able to do that a AR isn't other than reduce the rate of fire. A quality DMR style AR will shoot with most bolt guns. I have both and enjoy my AR just as much as my bolt gun. I will say a bolt guns stays a million times cleaner but other than that they are going to perform similarly. To give you an idea. Shooting reloads my "accurate" AR has shot a best of .5" at 100 yards. My bolt gun shoots .4" using reloads. Both are going to hit what they are aiming at. I will admit that bolt guns shine when shooting factory ammo but with reloads they are going to be about the same. The key to accuracy is not the gun, it is the ammo. If anyone wants to see what their gun is capable of with factory loads go shoot some FGMM. But be forwarned it is expensive and will make all other ammo suck in comparison. It is the only factory ammo that I have seen shoot close to handloads in most guns. I do like a nice bolt gun though. Dolomite

what is the minimum I need?

LOL, which one? Dolomite -
what is the minimum I need?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Andyshowfan's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If they have never been fired I am not sure why it would need to be trimmed. It is likely under the maximum but still longer than most people's trimm to length. I know I never had to trim them but I did need to crimp the bullets to hold them in place. Dolomite -

Even new brass needs to be trimmed in most cases. Some will be fine but some will be long. Your C press will be fine for 223 and pistol calibers. Make sure you clean your brass if it falls on the ground. All it takes is a single piece of sand to ruin a set of dies. You can use Lemishine, found at Walmart, or just plain water. Add hot water to a container, with or without Lemishine, and shake it good for a few minutes. Rinse with water a couple more times and then let the brass dry over a day or two. BTW, tumbling can do the same thing in 15 minutes and that is why most reloaders own one. Dolomite -
Their advertisers support them and those advertisers can exert infuence on Channel 5 as well as Phil Williams. Channel 5 and Phil WIlliams probably couldn't care less what we think but they definitely care what those who pay their salaries think. Dolomite

Cheap bolt gun that takes AR mags. http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/mossberg-flex-mvp-patrol-rifle-takes-ar-15-mags-shot-show-2013/ Expected to be under $500. Dolomite

I think you meant to say 125-175 years to late not too early. Personally I would have rather been born in the 1870's with the industrial revolution just ahead as well as all the firearms developements. Oil had not became mainsteam or automobiles either. Dolomite

She has actually been shooting since about 1991. She would hunt jackrabbits with me in New Mexico. Then in Alabama she would shoot a lot more and then when we moved up here she became a lot more involved. Dolomite

And don't forget the next time he has something on sale. Refuse to deal with him again and let him know why. Dolomite

Anymore I generally don't get adrenaline dumps like I did before. Even when I do I come down pretty quick and then get really tired. I can remember a few times I felt like I was going to throw up during or right after. The most disturbing part to me is the HEAVY pounding of th heart and the feeling like you can't get enough air. It is great having a wife who supports, or is even involved, in the gun "habit". My wife owns about as many guns as I do and shoots regularly. She pushed me to build my silencer, she is pushing me to get a MG and she wants to go to Knob Creek or another MG shoot. Congratulations. Dolomite

+1 The auditory senses are one of the senses that gets the bloodflow restricted when the adrenaline starts flowing. You also will not notice how heavy a trigger is or how hard a gun kicks. Most times you won't be able to tell how many shots you fired. You will loose fine motor skills and only have gross movements. The biggest danger during a life and death encounter is when you get tunnel vision. You will still suffer the after affects of shooting the gun like ringing ears or bruising but only after the adrenaline is gone. I absolutely hate adrenaline dumps. Not so much during but afterwards because all I want to do is go to sleep for a week. Dolomite

Feinstein's plan bans any gun with a 'grip'?
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It upsets me to. And I will likely transfer them to my son. And because there is no registration requirements it would be hard to place when they were given. The bill allows me to take possession of "his" firearms for use on a range by me. I have an established range at my house and as long as "his" guns remain here I am legal. This is all speculative because it will take months for it to make it through the process. And I seriously doubt it will. I can see universal background checks passing but not much more. But we must still remain vigilant. Dolomite -
Feinstein's plan bans any gun with a 'grip'?
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I hate to say it but we need to educate ourselves before running around like the sky is falling or our hair is on fire. I am just saying we need to read the bill in its entirity and not rely on third parties, like WND or Alex Jones, for fact finding. http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/files/serve/?File_id=9a9270d5-ce4d-49fb-9b2f-69e69f517fb4 If it passed tomorrow as written, which I seriously doubt, it will not affect any of the guns currently owned. If passed no guns you currently own will be banned from ownership. You can still have them and you can still take them to the range. Only the future sale, transfer or manufacture of those weapons listed will not be allowed. We are not going to have to turn our guns in if they are on the list, have a threaded muzzle or a second pistol grip. The government is not going to come around and check for threaded muzzles. They are not going to come take your guns if it has a threaded muzzle, second pistol grip or a barrel shroud. It will not affect any magazines you currently own. You can still take your high capacity magazines to the range with your gun that is on the list. And don't confuse this post and think I am condoning any part or this. Or that I approve of it in place of something worse. I have gotten so upset at this it has affected my health and my relationships. I hate what is happening with every fiber of my being and I get sick thinking about it. We are at a bad point right now and we cannot give up the fight or relax. We need to call, write or email our representatives. And not just our own but other representatives as well because they will not verify if you are in their jurisdiction. And besides it is not against the law to call other people's representatives. We need to be MORE active than those who oppose us. But in the end we need to be informed and not rely on the typical sources that use sensationalism and fear. Dolomite -
