My post about the "firearm" wasn't meant to be specifically about a Saiga. It does need to be a shotgun that came from the factory with a pistol grip and not just a shotgun with a pistol grip. This fact means you would almost need to buy the gun new to make 100% sure you are not violating the law.   Whether a SBR, SBS, AOW or suppressor it all costs $200 to make. There are differences in cost to transfer but to make ANY NFA item it costs $200.   You could also machine a new trunion and then make sure the "firearm" is 26" OAL without a "stock" to save the $200.   Romad, your gun looks great.   I am still not 100% convinced I like the Kushnapup or the bullpup design.. It feels great, it handles great and is very short. What is a little harder than a standard gun is magazine changes. I am sure I will get better with practice. And honestly if a problem can't be solved with 10 rounds of 00 buck something has gone teribbly wrong.   People say drums are possible but it is very uncomfortable to shoot because you have to reach around the drum to reach the trigger. And with 12 round stick mags available I see no advantage to having a drum unless you go prone. Personally I like using 5 rounders with it but I do have several 10 rounders and have ordered more of each.   Dolomite

It is about as long as a standard AK trigger when adjusted correctly but no heavier. The rod he used to connect the two is very sturdy, not your typical bent piece of wire.   It is a defensive shotgun so I do not need a lightweight trigger.   Dolomite

Also, if you want short you can take a pistol grip shotgun and put whatever length barrel you want on it as long as the OAL is 26". It must have been a gun that was manufactured as a pistol grip from the factory. Because it was not made to be shoulder fired it does not meet the definition of a shotgun so it is a "firearm". And the onyl law regarding "firearms" is it must be 26" OAL.   There are several instances where a person put a 14" barrel on their pistol grip shotgun and the ATF approved it because it was 26" long.   Dolomite

If you gun wasn't already converted I would say look at the Kushnapup. Mine is 29" OAL with a 19" barrel. When I get it to its shortest legal configuration it will be 27.5" tip to tip.   Dolomite

It is illegal to sell mushrooms although you see them on Craigslist.   My wife and I try to hunt them each year but last year screwed us up with the mild winter. We have found an area where we can get 3-5 pounds every couple of weeks throughout the season. Not the easiest place to get to for me but it is worth it. Dolomite

There is a easy and cheap process out there. The most of this is from a previous post. So after a little bit of research I realized it is very easy but most importantly cheap. The solution you use is Zep Root Killer from Home Depot for $12.98. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/cleaning/drain-openers/zep/2-lb-root-kill-62964.html Next I needed a small container for the solution to be put into and I picked one up for a few dollars at Dollar General. Then I stripped the coating off some copper wire and placed it into the bottom of the container with one end hanging outside. Then I placed a metal rail across the top of the container for the bullets to hang from. I stripped some more wire, cut small 5" pieces and twisted them around the bullets to be plated. I then hung them from the top rail. I mixed the Zep Root Killer with hot water, 1.5 cups to 1 gallon. I shook well to make sure it was disolved. I then poured it into the container until it covered all the hanging bullets. Now to energize. I connected the NEGATIVE terminal the rail the bullets were hanging from. Then I connected the POSITIVE to the wire in the bottom of the container. Then I wait and after about 5 minutes you begin to notice the bullets turning a different color. After about 30 minutes they are done and I have added about .002" of copper to the outside of the bullets I cast. And once I size them back down the bearing surfaces get as smooth as a jacketed bullet. You need to space them about 1" apart or you will not have an even coating. The eletrical current is supplied by an old cell phone charger, ~5.1v and 2.2A. Here is a picture of the container: And some bullets: The color is actually more pink than in the picture. And the one on the left has not been sized. They feel rough but they are plated with copper. Even if you had to buy everything here is would still be under $30. After doing this and talked to someone who powdercoats I have decided powder coating is an easier process and will work well for what I do. Dolomite

You can gun the barrel to ~15", maybe shorter, without having to shorten the gas system. You will have to open the ports up some but it will still be reliable. To help reliability you can also polish the bottom of the bolt, the hammer face and install a lighter hammer spring. Not sure if it is enough to make up the difference in shortening the barrel.   Converting a Saiga is easy and it is impossible to screw it up unless you really try to screw it up. Converting it gets rid of the miserable trigger as well as extra "links" in the trigger system that can cause problems. It also allows you to use standard AK parts like stocks and grips.   Dolomite

You can join up to age 35 so being a PFC at 38 is very possible. You just have to be enlisted by your 35th birthday. Also, promotions in the NG are very slow compared to active duty. Being a PFC in the NG at 38 is not an indication they are a screw up. Now being caught up in a theft ring is an indication but until proven guilty they are innocent.   Dolomite

I will wear gloves from now on when loading or handling cast bullets.   I am also going to start powder coating bullets to prevent exposure when shooting. I shoot cast bullets in my AR 90% of the time and there is a lot of smoke that comes back through the gas system. You can buy an airless powder coating system for under $40 and a toaster oven for under $30.   When I cast I will be wearing a mask as well as setup an range hood to pull the fumes away from me and dump them 20+ feet away.   Dolomite

Is both legs of the hammer spring on top of the pin that goes through the trigger? If so then the pin will not walk out again.   I have never seen a pin walk on a correctly assembled lower.   The "anti walk" pins are actually not to keep the pins from walking out but to keep them from rotating in the lower. It isn;t that big of a deal on a $100 lower but a rotating pin on a $15K MG lower is a big deal.   Dolomite

Are the circlips you talking about "E" clips? http://www.teamassociated.com/pictures/products/3214/3214_md.jpg   If so they are probably the most secure way to hold the pins in place.   Saiga's are generally a work in progress. You will have to address a few issues before it is 100% reliable.   Is that a rivet holding the front of the trigger guard on?   Dolomite

Bend the spring. I have to on mine to keep them in place after the conversion. There is nothing wrong with bending a spring. There is also nothing wrong with not using a shepards hook. All the shepards hook does better than a spring is make it easier to put together. Once the gun is together there is no difference in how they perform. The reason they didn't use the Tapco hammer is it causes reliability issues in some guns. I know I have has issues. Dolomite

In the end a thief is a thief.   What the item is, the condition of it or the value of it still doesn't change the fact it was stolen. The actual value might make a difference as far as the charges but it still doesn't change the fact the items were stolen and those that stole it should be held accountable for their actions. Even if the item stolen was worthless it is still a thief that is doing the stealing.   Even if the items were slated for destruction they were still stolen before the destruction was complete.   Dolomite

DRMO is not llowed to sell weapon related items or at least that is how it used to be.   They will be subject to Tennessee Criminal Law and not UCMJ. That is unless they were on active duty at the time of the crime.   Dolomite
