Ideas on removing critters from crawlspace
Dolomite_supafly replied to analog_kidd's topic in General Chat
I think they died of lead poisoning. :) Dolomite -
Non standard buffers cost $40+ each. And if you have to buy just one to get a few different uppers running right you are already over the cost of an adjustable gas block. You can buy micro adjustables and railed adjustables for under $50 shipped. And with an adjustable gas block you can tune the gun to reduce felt recoil, minimize wear and tear and keep crud in the receiver to a minimum. An eroding gas port is one more reason for an adjustable gas block. It doesn't matter how big the gas port gets the gas impulse will be the same. Another advantage to tuning the upper to the lower is you don't have to remember which upper needs which buffer to run right. Sure you can use buffers to fix a problem but if you ever have to swap an upper in a hurry, or if you are in a SHTF situation and need to swap the upper, and you don't have the correct buffer you are out of luck. DPMS makes one http://www.midwayusa.com/product/724394/dpms-dissipator-barrel-ar-15-556x45mm-nato-heavy-contour-1-in-9-twist-16-chrome-moly-matte-with-front-sight-base-rifle-length-sight-radius-pre-ban But most are carbine length gas systems. Dolomite

There are two different setups for dissipators. One uses a shorter length gas system with the front sight well ahead of the port and one uses the rifle length gas system with the gas port at the front sight. With the rifle length gas system, which is what the OP has, the port needs to generally be above .100". While the dissipator with the short gas system, like you describe, needs a much smaller port. The dissipator with the shorter gas system does not have the port at the front sight but under the handguard. Ideally you want a lower that you can swap between all uppers without having to swap to exotic parts. And in order to do that the upper is what needs to be fixed, not the lower. There is nothing wrong with opening up the port a few thousandths at a time until the gun functions with the ammo you are going to shoot the most. Barrels are way cheaper than ammo right now so I would have zero issues making a barrel work with steel cased. The savings in the end will be less even if you have to buy another barrel. Also, you can artificially lengthen a gas system but you cannot artificially shorten a gas system so opening up a port isn't going to ruin the barrel. Worst case scenario you add ab adjustable gas block and actually tune the gun to the ammo. Dolomite

They were on sale in a Bas Pro flyer. Dolomite -
The series is a great look into life on a deployment, 90% sheer boredom and 10% sheer terror. I especially like it when they let us know the outcome of the patients. I have worked with a few PJ's over the years and they have all been great guys like those in the show. If I could I would work as a PJ in a heartbeat. I would go over tomorrow if I could. I especially like riding in helicopters. Dolomite

They were in a Bass Pro shop flyer. Wow, I guess I should have bought them at their price. Turns out the actual street price on the PCL is going to be $300+. Here it is at Gander for $299: http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Bushnell-AR-Optics-1-4x24-Illuminated-Riflescope&i=725065&aID=503N1&merchID=4006 For other places check here: http://www.bushnell.com/global/customer-service/online-retailers Dolomite -
I installed them on both Saigas I have owned. I think it sets them off nicely. Dolomite

If you get a vented handguard for a SKS they pop on the gas tube like it was meant to be there. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/132515/tapco-ventilated-handguard-sks-steel-black You bend the sides in by hand a little so it stays in place. Dolomite

Virtual President on the 2nd amendment

It is a good video, must have been so good you needed to post it again :) http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/61420-another-great-video-by-bill-whittle/ Dolomite -
You do realize this is not a standard AR barrel? It is a rifle length system that has been cut back 2". It may need a larger port because of the shortened barrel beyond the gas port. When you start having to use non standard lower parts to make a specific upper run then you cannot swap uppers and that takes away the usefulness of the AR. A lower should work with any upper out there and if the lower doesn't then it is the upper that has the problem and not the lower. Having to swap out buffers and carriers when swapping uppers is silly. I agree over gassing can be an issue but I do not believe that is the case here. And if it was over gassed then an adjustable gas block fixes it without affecting the lower's usefulness. There should be no reason to use non standard buffers but I see it all the time. Before the first shot is fired people put in an exotic buffer or other exotic parts without trying milspec parts then complain their guns do not run right. Dolomite

Not as good as some other gun companies but at least Maryland will feel the affects of their decision to restrict gun ownership. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/berettas-future-in-maryland-tied-to-states-gun-control-debate/2013/02/23/bcc56c62-7776-11e2-95e4-6148e45d7adb_story.html

Israel Kills IRGC General, Gives Iran the Finger
Dolomite_supafly replied to TMF's topic in General Chat
More than just alluded with that statement. More like the only kid in the classroom who knows the answer as he waves his hand over head saying "Pick me, pick me". Our leaders would never have the balls to do or even say something like that. They are too warried about trying to make friends with countries that hate us. Dolomite -
Scope adapter to use your iPhone to record what you see through your scope. I was really interested in getting one until I seen the price. It is a little more than I want to spend for a toy. But it would be cool for those who hunt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=q4UnWFP9dr4#! I have owned several EAA Witness and never had a single problem. They are also very accurate. I would have zero issue buying one in 9mm. I would really like to find one in 38 Super for a reasonable amount of money so I can build a modern gun in 7.62x25 Tokarev. Dangit, now I am going to have to start looking for one. Dolomite

TapaTalk wound up being a real system hog as far as resources go. David said they will not make TapaTalk available until THEY fix the issue. Dolomite

I have 50 yards at my house which is plenty for what I do most days. It isn't as long as I would like but being able to walk out and shoot is worth it, especially when working up handloads. There were times when I would sit on the couch in my living room and shoot groups out the front door. I do have a few friends that have ranges out past 200 yards. I am looking for land now to get some extra distance. Dolomite

Are you sure it is 1/2-20? Everything I have read has been that it is 1/2-28. Having a suppressor on a supersonic round is still pretty loud but it masks where the shot comes from. To the "target" the gunshot comes from the direction the bullet passes them and not from where the bullet came from. I didn't belive until I was shooting suppressed past some horses. They would normally run towards me when I shot but with the suppressor on they would run towards the bullet path. Dolomite

Got a few tips for a tumbler?
Dolomite_supafly replied to bikertrash2001's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
You want just enough media to move the brass. If you have too much media it doesn't clean well. The brass rubbing against each other is a good cleaner. Add some NuFinish to help. Dolomite -
I am sure someone will come along and post it. I have read it before when we found a bunch a few years ago. On top of that I would never buy mushrooms from an unknown person or source. Too easy to get poisoned. Dolomite
