I would have loved to retire at 20+ years but I couldn't. Service connected injuries forced me out at 10 years but the problem is the VA does not consider me 100% disabled. I have ran into this for several other programs the state offers. You must be a 20+ year veteran OR 100% disabled for all of them as well. Dolomite

My how things change. I asked no more than 6 months ago about AR's and they said they would never sell anything tactical like that. A month or two later they started selling AR accessories and now the rifles themselves. Glad to see it. Dolomite

They have always done right by me as well. They swapped a pistol for another for free. We did have a miscommunication over my wife's pistol but in the end they tried to make it right. Dolomite

Governor signs guns in parking lots bill
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think lawsuits will pop up every time someone gets fired now. The plaintiff will claim they were fired for having a gun in their car. This is going to cost the taxpayers of Tennessee millions of dollars in litigation. It was fine before and now that this has passed it changes nothing. A worker will still be fired for having a gun in their car the only difference is now the employer won't say that is why they were fired. Problem was people couldn't keep their mouth shut about having a gun in their car. And if they think they can now openly say they have a gun in their car, when they couldn't before, without ramifications they are probably going to to have a big surprize. I am glad you guys got what you wanted but I don't see how it improved it from what it was before. Dolomite -
The Sequester has hit close to home.

What I always thought was the biggest waste was when a military member retired he would be hired in doing the same position for more money. I seen it plenty in a school house environment. It was almost expected that a retiree was allowed to keep his AD position as a civilian but get paid more. Another was paying contractors to run food service while cooks sat around. I will admit the food was a lot better with contractors. Dolomite -

He is going to try to avoid using MGIB while in if possible. He is AF and stationed in Georgia, not like it matters to the GI Bill. I just spoke to him and he said there are a lot of grants and programs for him he can use. His supervisor was telling him they still have plenty of programs to help out without dipping into his GI Bill. My son is worried if he starts using it the time frame to use it will pass before he gets out. I do remember that a person has 10 years to use it from the time they exit. Mine expired a few years ago. Dolomite -

Our son lost his tuition assistance as well. They said it will not be available until October 1st unless nothing changes. Some colleges offer reduced rates for military members so he can still go, it will just cost a bit more. If he wants to go to school we will make sure his tuition is paid. He did say the civillians on base have to take a day a week off without pay Dolomite -

Anyone here done any bead blasting?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Il Duce's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Try any local automotive shop. They could do it but you can;t leave it with them unless they happen to have an FFL. If you plan on spray coating it I would recommend medium aluminum oxide media. If you are just wanting to remove paint then you need glass media or baking soda. Aluminum oxide is what I always use because it leaves the perfect surface for paint to adhere to. Also, if you plan on coating or painting prep is the most important aspect of it. I have posted my routine a few times. If you can;t find it let me know and I will repost it. Dolomite -
Anyone intrested in a shoot? *Poll added, please vote
Dolomite_supafly replied to Spots's topic in Events and Gatherings
Hoping to have my Saiga done in time. I am going to be getting some stuff welded up on it then I need to shoot 300-400 rounds to make sure it is good. Then disassemble it and paint it, bake it then call it good. I might have a 300 Blackout bolt gun done in time as well. Unfortunately I will not have a can for it. I might bring a bolt action 22 for my suppressor, depends on how much subsonic ammo I have left by that time. Anyone else wanting to see anything I have posted here? -
Look on Ebay. I buy them all the time for under $7 shipped. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=1911+recoil+spring&_frs=1 Dolomite

A 1911 needs the recoil spring replaced every 1,000 rounds or so. Believe it or not but the spring will shorten about an inch in that time. A lot of malfunctions can be attributed to a weak recoil spring. Anytime I buy a 1911 I swap the recoil spring because most people don't no matter how many rounds down range. It is cheap insurance. Cut Birdshot shells = Slug?
Dolomite_supafly replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have loaded paintballs in hulls. I did this a long time ago when less lethal was becoming popular. Problem was about 1/2 the time the balls would bust before leaving the barrel. I might have to revisit it just for giggles. I have also done the coin loads and like you I wasn't very impressed. At 15 yards they had about as much penetration as #8 birdshot in plastic barrels. I have painted slugs in hopes of making them more visible at distance but it was a failure. I know people who load shotshells with old spent primers. They said they do not work well for anything. I have never loaded airsoft bullets in a shot gun but I have shot them out of a primer only 223. They fly about as far as any airsoft gun I have shot and are about as inaccurate. I have used the same primer only loads to shoot lead pellets and they work well. I have also tried using blanks to shoot lead 22 caliber pellets and the blank disentigrates the pellet. I have had the head come off and leave the skirt in the bore. If I had fired a regular round afterwards it could have been very dangerous. I have even tried to use a blank to fire a jacketed bullet in a 22lr, I have scars to prove that one didn't go so well. That one really scared me because I felt the pain and by the time I made it in front of a mirror I had a pretty substantial amount of blood all over my face. Luckily it wasn't as bad as it looked but it was still extremely dangerous and I was an idiot for trying it. As I think about it I may have had a problem from trying to shoot a bullet that was too heavy but I am not going to risk it again, ever. When I get around to it my next project will be to cast some plastic bullets, again for giggles. I have seen people use a glue gun but I am not so sure I want to send that stuff down the bore of a gun. A shotgun slug of glue from a glue gun and shot would hold together much better though. I have been trying to find data, and asking people who are familiar with it, for loading two one ounce slugs in a single hull. I know there have been factory loads and I know people who have done it but no one will divulge their load data for liability reason. Whatever you use to make slugs you need to make sure either it can give or the bore is not choked. Lead slugs give and will squeeze down some in a constricted bore. If what you are using will not give it can bulge or split the barrel if it encounters a restriction. Needless to say this can cause damage to the gun, shooter or bystanders. And just because something fits in a cup doesn't mean it is safe to shoot. Dolomite -
Did you guys not see them in stock in the OP? Complete lowers for $295 and without the FCG for $195. Dolomite

I have never really messed with the 700 so I have no clue for a 300/223 magazine setup. Dolomite

European tax system is crazy. They inventory your belongings and you pay an annual tax on every single thing you own of value. That is why every year there is "garbage" day where you can find all kinds of nice stuff sitting on the curb for disposal. There was even a proposal by the democrats to charge you tax on the income you would gain if you rented something you owned. If you owned a house that would rent for $1,000 a month then they wanted you to pay income tax on $12,000. And it wasn't just your house but automobiles, boats or anything of value. Dolomite

And imagine what will happen if they find something they think is not right? They will freeze the accounts until you prove your innocence. How easy will that be without any funds? And considering humans make mistakes their mistakes could ruin the lives of those who actually have worked their entire lives and planned for the future. Something else to consider. As they are gathering financial information they might use it for other purposes. The democrats have already mentioned doing a one time tax on all bank accounts. And once they have all the account numbers it would be easy to do it electronically in the middle of the night. They could pass it during an "emergency" session without anyone reading it like ObamaCare. Dolomite

I just ordered a blank to build another 300 Blackout. It will be a Savage short action with a 16.25" barrel threaded for a can. 8 twist and it will be a 1" straight taper. I am going to build a K baffle can out of 17-4 and 316 stainless steel. I am debating on SBRing my bolt gun when I SBR an AR or maybe SBS my Saiga rather than SBR anything.

The owner was accused of selling a few firearms under the table. It is unclear if the guns were his personal guns or company guns. When the Feds walked into his business for an investigation they took all of his inventory, not just firearms, as well as froze his assets. They also refused to allow the business to produce on that premises and declined his variance to have them made at another location. He also sold medical kits and other tactical gear. The Feds seized all that property. The Feds refuse to return ANY of the items seized until he is found innocent. He was not allowed to have access to his funds for a proper defense.

I was told they changed the laws in 2008. You need to have a sponsor now. I know when I got mine you could just get the training done and get your license. I am sure there are members with more current info but that is what I was told by the licensing and insurance division after mine expired. Dolomite

Home made body armor, amazing
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Yep. If you take a single shot pistol and fire it at another person holding that same exact pistol and the bullet hits the second pistol and does not exit the recoil will be the same. Actually a little less because the bullet has slowed down between the two. Newton's law is what says any reaction will have and equal and opposite reaction. Dolomite -
Cut Birdshot shells = Slug?
Dolomite_supafly replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
No I do not pour it back in the shell. It would melt the cup and likely ignite the powder. I cast bullets and have a few 12 gauge molds I use to make lead slugs. Federal uses straight cups so it is a drop in affair but Winchester requires different cups. That is the biggest reason I try to buy Federal 12 gauge. Dolomite
