  1. See any morels?
  2. Join silencer research. Well worth the $30 to save the frustration of buying a crappy can. It also depends on the weapon. No suppressor is the best on both a rifle and a pistol. If you plan on using a pistol mostly then buy a can that works best with a pistol. I recommend the Sparrow because it is the easiest to clean. It is not the quietest but it is the best. You can use wire pulling gel to reduce the noise level even more and it will not hurt it at all. And finally the Sparrow is SS which is better than aluminum.
  3. I have zero intentions of selling this one. And if it continues to run right I might even SBS it.
  4. Perhaps he was speculating. Perhaps the driver was attempting to flea the scene after killing the kids and the father was preventing the killer from leaving. It wouldn't take much to squish the kids to death. The car could easily be drive able afterwards. Dolomite
  5. It now is one complete color. The only thing left to do is chop the barrel and permenently attach the flash hider back to 18.25". I am going to replace the front handguard with something else, just haven't decided what yet. I am thinking about a Saiga rifle forearm with the angled front. Thos are HK sights that are TIG's in place (thanks Patrick, It has a TAC47 auto plug (thanks RED333), the side rail was removed and the holes left welded closed, I used a dual hook trigger to make a custom trigger that feels better than any other AK I have ever pulled. The bolt has been profiled and polished with reliability in mind. It has a CSS gas puck (it was easier to order than make one), That is a ACE folder that is 8.5" long with a 1/2" pad and the grip is a MD Arms Molot style. That is a 10 round SGM magazine sticking out the bottom. I put a few hundreds round through it yesterday before painting and now I realized how much I missed having one. Enjoy
  6.   When the intent is livelihood and/or pecuniary gain a license is required.   This is all about intent, nothing more. It is not so much about making a profit as it is about the intent to resell. A person can buy or make a firearm with the intent to sell and loose money but at the time they made or bought it they intended to sell it. As a matter of fact profit is not even a requirement otherwise every "individual" dealing in firearms could say they weren't profitable so they didn't need a license.   I honestly cannot recall ever buying a gun with the intent ot reselling it, now my memory is bad but I still believe I intended to keep every firearm I have ever bought. I intended to keep them then I found out it sucked or I just didn't like it or I needed the money. But I never bought a single gun with the intent of selling.
  7. Just because you do not hear of people buying 2-3 guns with intent to resell for a profit being prosecuted does not mean it is legal because it is not. Buying or making any firearm with the intent to sell for a profit requires a FFL. It is hard to prove intent with someone who buys and sells 2-3 guns a year but they are breaking the law if they are buying with the intent to resell just as those who have been buying and selling dozens of guns with intent to resell in a year without a license.   There is no set amount as to what will get you in trouble. It could be 2 guns or 2,000 guns before they decide to prosecute if they do at all. It is hard to prove intent when someone buys then sells 1 gun a year but it is very easy to prove when someone buys then sells a lot more in a year.   Just saying there are a lot of individuals that are buying guns with the intent of reselling them and that is against the law.   Dolomite
  8. There are several reasons not to have a 5.56 AR for home defense. First is the concussion. AR's are LOUD and when you get inside a confined space it only magnifies it. Even with hearing protection the concussive blast can disorient you. Second is, no matter the round, it will penetrate walls and do not make the assumption that you will not miss the bad guy. And no matter how righteous the shoot is you can still be held accountable for that round that went through your walls and injured someone. Another consideration is the muzzle flash which can be blinding at night or in low light conditions.   As far as overpenetration goes most calibers that are considered useful for self defense are going to over penetrate if you miss your target.   In my SD shotgun I have things loaded in this order. 1. 00 buck 2. 00 buck 3. #4 steel shot 4. 00 buck 5. #4 steel shot 6. Slug 7. Slug All of them are high velocity, high brass loads. No reduced recoil/velocity stuff. The slugs are for the longer distances. Because I am likely to encounter problems at shorter ranges that is why I use shot with slugs being the last. I have nobody to worry about hitting in the direction I will be shooting. If I did I would load my gun up with a much smaller shot size.   Even birdshot can be very devastating at SD ranges. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq3RVvL9ZjU&feature=player_detailpage Dolomite
  9.   Not to mention you would be breaking federal law by doing that. There are a lot of people out there willing to risk their freedom for a few bucks, I am not.   Making a profit in a free market is one thing but breaking the law, buying with the intent to resell, to make a profit in a free market is another.   Dolomite
  10. Do you have a baffle in your hopper?   If not you need to add one. It will make it very, very consistent.   I will take a pill bottle that fits inside and rests on the cone at the bottom. Then I will cut the bottom off the pill bottle then I dril a 1/4" hole somewhere along the side. The powder flows through the hole but stops once the powder level reaches the hole. This means a set amount of weight is always on the measure itself regardless of how much powder is in the hopper.   Dolomite
  11. I always make sure the trigger is covered with the holsters I make for friends and family. That is a serious issue unless you carry the gun without a round in the chamber.   With a 1911 it is possible for the thumb safety to be bumped off, especially with the ambi and extended safety. Every single 1911 I have ever owned has a small thumb safety installed for this reason. I use the smallest safety I can because they can get bumped off and the extended ones only make it easier to happen.   And if you think a 1911 will not go off unless the grip safety is depressed you are mistaken. The grip safety only prevents the pulling of the trigger, not the movement of the sear, until the shooter has a proper grip. The thumb safety is the safety that actually locks the sear in place so the hammer will NOT fall. If you drop a 1911 with the thumb safety off it can go off even if the grip safety is not depressed. This is because the sear can still be bumped off the hammer hook. If the thumb safety is engaged the hammer cannot fall because the thumb safety physicall locks the sear against the hammer.   Again, the grip safety is kind of a misnomer because it is not a safety at all. It is there to ensure you have a proper grip before firing, nothing more. It is not, and should never be relied upon as, a safety because the gun can still fire when dropped even if the grip safety is not depressed.   I have actually pinned the grip safety down or removed the leg internally to ensure the gun will go off even if the grip isn't perfect.   The thumb safety is the only safety to rely upon,  if at all, with a 1911.

  14. Was told by a shop that a local guy spent $3,500 to buy two AR's. He used the money for his mortgage, car payment, utilities and all his insurance money for the month or two to buy them. His wife told him not to but he convinced his wife he could sell them for $3,500 each in a week. Last I heard he was having a hard time paying his bills because he isn't even making his money back.   I suspect there are a lot of people in the same boat now. Facing bills they cannot pay because they hoped to take advantage of the fear mongering people where doing.   Dolomite
  15. We had a local man who was driving drunk and ran over a young lady here. That was a few years ago. He finally was sentenced this past week.    He was ordered to serve 48 hours, yes hours, in jail for killing someone. He also got 4 years probation, 24 hours of trash pickup and lost his license for a year.   Everyone here has seen me post about how screwed up the court system is in my county. And honestly this didn't surprize me one bit because I have seen it over and over again where people have their charges dismissed or time served for offenses that in any other jusrisdiction would garner years, if not decades, in jail.   Those who drive drunk more than once should face felony charges. Second offense and they loose the ability to drive for life, no excuses for work. Second offense, they loose the ability to own a car. They would ordered to pay punitive damages in the amount of 1/3 their income for life to the immediate family of the person they kill, husband or wife or children. Make a 3 strikes law where if you get caught driving drunk 3 times you are sentenced to life in prison.    I will see if I can find the article and scan it in.   Dolomite
  16. I have a very small Kodak charger that uses AA batteries. It can recharge itself in a day so with only that I will always have power for a flashlight or cellphone. That stays with me most days. I can remove the AA's and put them in whatever else needs to be powered.   For long term I will use two larger solar panels and 12v batteries that is run through an inverter. The inverter then can be used to charge anything that might need it. And with the 12v batteries I will also run LED lighting in the house. It will not run a refrigerator or heater or anything else other than lights and the occassional item that has to be recharged. I figure I can go a week or two between charges if need be but as long as I have at least one day of sun every couple of weeks I will have indefinite lights. I will isolate the house from the grid then flip all the breakers for the house. I will plug the battery into a outlet then flip the breakers for the areas i have the LED lighting in. The power is there to keep the lights on and the boogeyman away, nothing more.   It is not very portable but I have zero intentions of going anywhere if we find ourselves in a long term power outage situation. I will use fire to heat and cook with. I made a handpump for my well and have a water filter that can do 3+ gallons of water a day.   My whole solar setup would cost under $200 to duplicate.
  17. I have long said Obama is not the problem. He can do very little on his own. It is all our representatives that refuse to listen to us and are more worried about themselves than those they represent or even the country.   That is why I will NEVER vote for another encumbent as long as I feel my representative is not representing me. If that requires a vote for a Democrat, Republican or Independent so be it. I would rather take a chance on someone I do not know than vote for someone who has proven to put themselves ahead of me or my country.   Dolomite
  18.   It is their fault. I have been in there a few times and every single time I was treated like crap and that when they did acknowledge me. I stood in there once for 20 minutes as the staff chatted amongst themselves.   Think of it as Coal Creek Armory Lite   This was a few years ago and hopefully they have changed but I doubt it based on what others are saying.
  19. As long as it does not fire FA then you are good regardless of the parts. But if the lower is drilled for the auto sear, which these aren't, then that is considered a MG.   Dolomite
  20. Grab a Matech, they can be had for under $50. Once zeroed it has the ability to flip a lever for ranges out to 600 yards. I have one and it works great.   Dolomite
  21. I have been looking for a junker to build a "Tactical Tokarev". Install good sights and make some decent grips and make a decent holster. I would also like to have a 1911 in 38 Super to convert to 7.62x25.
  22. And if you see any leading inside of 50 rounds see my post above. I recommend people slug their bore to determine the correct size cast bullet. A cast bullet is not like a jacketed bullet. Slug the bore then I add .002" to the OD of the bullet. Most casting companies cast the lion's share of their bullets the same size as jacketed. And this causes leading. Dolomite
  23. I suspect there are a lot of TSA agents doing what they really want to do, sit in the break room all day. And now they have permission to do it. There are s lot of Obama supporters that are cheering this because it griefs the ones that can actually afford to go somewhere or have a decent job. I really wish the next step would be to force a 20% cut in welfare and food stamps to save money rather than make the people who actually work and pay taxes take one day a week off. Maybe it will lead to these cuts once the workers can't support the programs but the government will cut Social Security and Veteran benefits long before that. What i don't get is it isn't like the money disappeared overnight. Yet within 12 hours they punish those who work and support those that don't. Dolomite
  24. You can also buy an upper in 30 Remington that uses a standard lower and ballistically is identical to a 308 Winchester. The upper will be cheaper than the Ruger. Think of it like a 300 WSSM that fits a standard AR lower. Again this is for a AR-15 lower and not an AR-10. http://www.shootingillustrated.com/mobile/article.php?id=7776 Dolomite
  25. That only proves people have lost their minds. Everything that has a bid is more that retail. And then on top of that there is a 18% buyer premium. There is not a single item in that list that is worth what they are getting bids on. Dolomite
