  1. 2"-3" low at 9 yards will still get you a hit on a bad guy. I would hardly consider that a reason to not use or shoot it. You could also file the front sight to raise the impact point. As long as you go slow you it is easy.
  2. Give me a call, I can talk you through it.
  3. Buy a $200 Maverick 88. They are identical to, and made by, Mossberg. All the accessories, barrels and stocks interchange between a Maverick 88 and a Mossberg 500. The best part is you can actually use a pistol grip because the safety is on the trigger guard not on top of the receiver like a Mossberg.
  4. Me neither. I tried but nothing jumped out at me. Came REALLY close to buying one of the Torrey Pines thermal sight for under $400.
  5. http://www.cncwarrior.com/M14x1-LH-to-5-8-24-RH-Muzzle-Thread-Adapter-p/24928.htm If you call them and order this they will give you a discount because of your background. And when installing it snug it down instead of just to the last detent. It might need a little machining depending on what the muzzle of the Century gun looks like. Text me a picture when you can of the muzzle so I can see what it looks like.
  6. Although I am in no immediate danger from fire, the mountain I live on is also on fire right now, the smoke is the more worrying matter. Yesterday it was so thick it was actually causing me some discomfort. I have no respiratory issues so I can not imagine the problems those who do have respiratory problems are having. It was thick enough that you could feel it in your eyes and definitely feel it as you breath. Hopefully the storm put them out. I have never seen it this bad in my entire life. When we first moved into our house my father and I noticed some smoke coming from up above my newly built house. When the smoke plume continued to get bigger we ran up to investigate and found a small fire climbing up an embankment. We, as well as some neighbors, were able to put it out. As we were walking back down we found crumpled up wads of paper that were partially burned. It looked like someone was lighting the paper on fire and throwing it out the window as they were driving out. We never caught who did it but I have always wondered why the hell people do crap like this. If I ever catch someone trying to start a fire I can promise that their trip to jail will be proceeded by a visit to the hospital first.
  7. And if you need ANY help getting that thing put together let me know.
  8. And to expound on how it can negatively affect accuracy. With a low magnification you center the scope up on the target and pull the trigger. No rush or hurry. With a high magnification scope you line up on the target then you are forced to jerk the trigger. The reason is because with high magnification scope you can see your heartbeat in the scope. Even your pulse in your hand can be seen through a high magnification scope. Another reason high magnification scope can affect accuracy is when you can see the bullets holes as you shoot. Most people will get frustrated if they are that amazing three shot group go to help with a fourth shot. And along with that frustration comes a loss of concentration that can negatively affect group size. When shooting groups I generally turn the magnification down until I cannot see the bullet holes at the distance I am shooting. In a perfect world one should fire between heartbeats and between the natural pause in your breathing. And one more small tidbit, when shooting for groups never fire with your gun while resting on a hard surface of off a bipod. They can cause erratic harmonics that can negatively affect accuracy. I use bags or a cheap backpack with a pillow inside. Even resting your gun on your fist it better than resting it in a hard surface.
  9. 800 grit is too course to polish. It will give a finish similar to what came from the factory but it will not be polished. It will eventually lead to the same problem because there will still be microscopic grooves. That is unless you polish the chamber. Also, that is course enough that it is possible to actually change the dimensions of you are not careful. Flitz, or any metal polish, will actually polish without removing material or at least you really have to try hard to remove material. I have used this method on at least 25 guns over the years. I have never had a problem and it has always improved the function of the gun. Where are you located?
  10. Almost every powder manufacturer has their load data online for free. I have shown at least a dozen members, probably more, how to setup their equipment as well as the basics of reloading. Where are you located?
  11. You can shoot to 300 yards using a red dot. If you are wanting to see the holes at that distance I would suggest a spotting scope. Believe it or not but too much magnification can negatively affect group size.
  12. Do it yourself, easy enough. Get a 45 caliber bore mop and chuck it into a drill. Then saturate the mop with a metal polish, like Flitz. Insert the bore mop into the cylinder and spin it for about 15 seconds. Repeat until you get the desired results. This should polish the chamber to ease extraction.
  13. Where are you located? I am mobile this week and it doesn't show up.
  14. And if we do remove the center you can tell people it is for water drainage.
  15. I can machine it down to fit. Even if the end is open the spring should still be captured.
  16. Rural King has some amazing prices on guns I picked up an EA Witness as well as a FDE PMR-30. Got both for just under $700 out the door. That was a week before their official opening.
  17. Probably cheaper to buy a new FCG than send it back. And if you want I can give it a once over as well as do your trigger for you, after it is working correctly. What is likely the problem is there is not enough engagement between the hammer and trigger. I have seen some "budget" triggers that do not have the nose of the trigger machined. They are as cast and look similar but they act exactly like you are describing. When you release the trigger enough for the hammer to fall off the disconnect there isn't enough engagement between the hammer and trigger to keep the hammer from following. There is not an easy fix other than replace the trigger. What you can try is filing the underside of the nose of the disconnect. That will give the disconnect a little more engagement and hopefully let the hammer grab. Even if you were able to file and get it to work I would never trust it because at some point it could randomly start doing it again. And if that happens at a public range with an overzealous off duty LE officer you might find yourself answering some questions at a minimum and potentially in a lot of hot water. Not worth risking it for the cost of a new FCG. Might call the manufacturer and discuss it with them. Never know it might be a batch of guns that were bad and they are completely aware. I would also suggest they send you a new FCG and you return the old one. That would be easier and cheaper on both of you but they still might want to inspect the gun. Sounds like that new binary trigger someone started selling. One the single shot position it is single shot but in the third position it fires on pull AND release. That binary trigger is several hundred dollars. BTW, will the selector go past semi? Just making sure it isn't a binary trigger.
  18. I hope those rounds hanging out of the magazine are dummies.
  19. You can tune 9mm's just like you can 5.56's. You can use buffers of different weights to tune them to your liking. My 9mm AR with a ~3.5" barrel has a very heavy buffer because I want it to be as quiet as possible with a silencer sometimes it has a malfunction but it is pretty quiet. My wife's 9mm AR has a light buffer so it will be reliable.
  20. I am offering the use of my welders for the build as well. Not 100% positive I will be building one but I will be there to help.
  21. What we, as gun owners, need to be doing is calling those on the committee as well as those who will be voting to move it forward. There is not law that says we cannot call representatives from other jurisdictions. If we can come together then we can get this passed as easily as we stopped the bans. Imagine the innovation that will come when anyone can make a silencer in their garage. I have several designs I would like to try but do not like the cost to do that.
  22. Put me on the list please.
  23. There is a 550 yard range out around Sneedville.
  24. Yeah, as long as the parts are from reputable sellers you should be fine as far as headspace. Matter of fact most bolts you are going to find are not going to headspace dangerously loose. The more expensive ones are the ones that have been tested individually for quality versus the cheaper batch testing method. For the average AR owner they will not need the durability of a high quality bolt but those that do send a lot of rounds down range will see the benefit of having the higher quality parts. Personally, I would not trust a DPMS bolt but if you are not a high volume shooter it should be fine.
  25. Before you do it drop something down to collect the water. If it comes up clear it is probably flowing but if it is cloudy water I would not fix it because it probably doesn't have fresh water coming in. Also smell it, a lot of rust and sulfur in the area if that matter.
