Nothing like a 3/4 scale 1911 for a 3/4 scale grown up :)   I really with they had a fixed barrel. If they did I would buy one. The reason I can't is because floating barrels tend to have problems with my suppressor.

For a hollow base just load like normal based on weight. The pressures will be high enough to seal a lead bullet.   There used to be a 41 Colt caliber. The bullet would drop through the barrel before being fired.

Water dropped bullets tend to keep their size. And as long as they are larger than the bore by at least .001" you should not have a lead problem. As cast bullets will get sized some by the case. I am going to try water dropping the bullets for my 300. They are dropping now at .310" and the case neck is sizing them down to .309". I would prefer they remain at .310".

That is because they were undersized. There is another thread where people think a 9mm needs a.355" cast bullet. A cast bullet needs to be at least .001" over the bore but I personally run .002" over the bore without issue. I have even ran cast bullets that are .005" over the bore without issue. A cast bullet that is the same as the bore or smaller will lead the bore in most cases.

Do not go below .356" in a 9mm otherwise you will have a leading problem. Nothing bad can happen from having an oversize cast bullet. I shoot .313" bullets in a verified .308" bore. I use a bullet that drops at .357" without issue. I am sure the case takes it down to .356". The only time I have has leading was when I used a cast bullet sized to .355".

If there was a modern bullet used and a modern design chambered in the caliber I think it would be very popular. It is the extra velocity that makes it so great. It is the only pistol caliber, or was, that easily defeated kevlar helmets and soft body armor. And it was developed 70+ years ago. It has a velocity of 1,450+ fps out of a pistol and less recoil than the average 9mm. The bottleneck case helps reliability also.

And here in Tennessee a retailer cannot ask the user of a EBT card for ID to verify the user and the card match. It is 100% against the rules and if they do the retailer can loose the ability to accept EBT cards. My brother, who's only problem is illegal drug use, receives disability and is given free medical as well as a EBT card to use. I have been told by workers at a local store that people, other than my brother, have been using my brother's card. I asked about carding the users and they explained they could not for privacy reasons.   When standing in Walmart or Sam's I am always looking at who is using a EBT card. Any day of the week it is 1 in 4 and towards the begining of the month it seems like it is about 50% that are using an EBT card. And the stuff that is allowed is mind boggling.   And those with EBT cards can even get cash off their card to use however they want.   I have told the story before but there is a lady who buys the packets of tuna for her cats using a EBT card. Maybe a moon clipped 45 Winchester Magnum? If that was the case you should be able to shoot moon clipped 45 ACP as well. And maybe even 45 LC.   It is definitely worth investigating before having it coated or altered.   And if you decide you might consider selling it let me know. I find it an interesting piece and I can guarantee I would shoot it.

Cast bullets develop less pressure than a jacketed bullet. Because of this you generally need more powder if all other variables are the same.   To give you an idea. My 245 grain cast bullets I shoot use the same exact load data as 220 Sierra Match Kings, which are jacketed.

I recently had a dud with my 300 Blackout. Upon inspection of the primer it looked like a light strike because the primer was seated too deep. I removed the bullet, powder and primer. All those looked fine. When I looked at the case it was obvious. I had previously made some dummy 300 Blackout bullets for key chains. Part of ghat was drilling out the primer pockets for a loop. Well one of the cases I hadn't used made it into my brass pile some how. When the firing pin hit the primer the primer moved in rather than firing. When seating some bullets on way undersized necks I had the necks buckle and swell. Not enough to notice but enough to cause issues.

I would contact S&W with teh serial number and see what they say. Isuspect it is a very rare bird if it is a factory gun.

Wow, you might have a very rare piece. I would not do anything more than wipe it down with some oil until you figure out what it is.   I have seen people take a $5K gun and turn it into a $500 gun by trying to "restore" it. I would not touch that gun with anything other than a soft cotton cloth.

It absolutely is worse for a 1911 because the act of chambering acts like a buffer that slows the slide speed. I routinely hold the trigger back when racking an empty gun. I do it to practice trigger resets as well as making sure the gun functions as it should. Checking trigger reset is part of doing a function check.

Here is the tip to keep all chronographs alive.   Take a piece of tape and put at the top of the two uprights. Mark a dot directly in the middle. Then aim at the dot.   I suspect most people who shoot their chronographs are also trying to shoot groups. Me, I only shoot to get the FPS after I find an accurate load. There is no need to know the FPS of a inaccurate load.   If you are worried about exceeding a certain FPS because of pressures then look at the cases. They will tell you more about what is safe than a chronograph can. I can load 223 ammo that is 1,000 fps under any factory load that would destroy a gun. I can also load ammo that is 300fps above the factory load without showing signs of pressure.

You do not need to crush or grind it up. It will still light off in prill form.   I would never order it off the internet, that is more of a red flag than buying it at the coop. They see someone who has coops that sell it all around them for cheap and the person chooses to order it off the internet at 5x as much. That in itself is a red flag in my eye.   You can get it at any coop and if you have a farm it is no big deal. Yes they will take your name down but they will not randomly pick a person out of the thousands of farmers that buy it every day.   My local coop sold AN for under $20 for a 50 pound bag. The cost of aluminum powder is under $20 a pound on Ebay. The cost ends up being under $1 a pound.   In the end there is nothing illegal about home made tannerite.
