  1. That organization has given exactly ZERO the past 2 years. He advertises for donations then his salary exceeds that. I forget the name now but I did a very thorough search into them.   Because no one wants to be accused of not supporting our veterans there are plenty of scammers who are using that to get donations. I especially hate those who set up at shows or other places with a promise of sending a box or phone cards to our troops. When asked if they are non profit and tax deductible they say they are but when you ask for a receipt for your donation they don't give them. There are a lot of those running around.   And while we are at it, I also hate the buckets at every register asking for money. It is always some rare condition that requires cash. I have always wondered if it is just some random person trying to get more money.   And finally, I hate those who stand at the intersections begging for money while they are dressed in their expensive clothes and text on their Iphone. Especially those who claim to be veterans yet are clueless about what a DD212 is (yes, for all those military members out there, I know what I did there).
  2. And here is another good read about CSAH: http://www.military-money-matters.com/coalition-to-support-americas-heroes.html#axzz2SYzR75aD     "San Diego 'nonprofit entrepreneur' Roger Chapin admitted to a congressional panel . . . that one of his veterans charities reimbursed him $43,225 for a forfeited condo-purchase down payment (what?!), loaned $135,000 to help a longtime director finance a divorce settlement (you've got to be kidding!), and paid $17,000 (a year) for a country club membership."
  3. I am going to upset some people with what I am about to say but here goes.   Seems to me that if there was a poster child for "don't let him have a gun" it would be "Flem" or Glenn. He has proven to be violent by striking a loved one because of his mental condition. He was diagnosed with PTSD and he had to stop flying as well as leave the military. He was part of a "drug trial" that was no doubt related to trying to stem his violent tendancies. He was more than likely medically discharged because of a mental condition, admits to being violent and more than likely owns firearms or at least handles firearms every day. Seems to me that is the person we should all be up in arms over.   Just because he does a PSA for some veteran organization doesn't mean he should not be held to the same standard as anyone else.   This isn't meant to beat up the organization even though they are not as great as they seem to be: http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=12314   And more on CSAH http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Coalition_to_Salute_America's_Heroes   "An intolerable fraud" "Representative Henry Waxman, Democrat of California, whose Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has held hearings on the issue and documented the above abuses, has rightly called the conduct of charities like Mr. Chapin’s [CSAH] 'an intolerable fraud'," editorialized the New York Times in February 2008. [1] The newspaper described a fundraising appeal from CSAH and noted that CSAH "and its sister organization, Help Hospitalized Veterans, were among a dozen military-related charities given a grade of F in a study last December by the American Institute of Philanthropy, a nonprofit watchdog group. These and other charities have collected hundreds of millions of dollars from kind-hearted Americans and squandered an unconscionable amount of it on overhead and expenses -- 70 percent or 80 percent, or more. ... Money that donors surely assumed was going to ease the pain and speed the healing of injured soldiers went instead to junk-mail barrages, inflated executive salaries and other forms of corporate-style bloat." [1] </ref> The New York Times editorial went on to urge readers to trash or recycle any fundraising appeals from CSAH. "Think of what Mr. Chapin told the House committee when asked what would happen if his charities ever told donors where their money went," the paper suggested. "'If we disclose, which I'm more than happy to do,' he said, 'we'd all be out of business. Nobody would donate. It would dry up.'" [1]   CSAH is nothing more than a way to get rich off of our veterans. The founder receives the majority of the donations.
  4. I have never used Unique but I use Popwer Pistol and that is all I will use from now on. I have also used Clays, HS-6 and Longshot for my 45 ACP. Between them all I like Power Pistol most.   I use a load of 7.4 grains of Power Pistol with a 230 grain cast bullet. It cycles my 5" 1911 just fine.   I also use Power Pistol for 9mm and use 5.2 grains with a 125 grain cast bullet. It is a little on the light side. It cycles my Taurus 24/7 OSS DS great but with my wife's 9mm AR it sometimes doesn't lock back on an empty magazine. When I get ready to load another lot I will load to 5.5 grains with the 125 grain cast bullets.
  5. It is a sickness that, if you are not careful, can make you sick. :)   Dolomite
  6. He will be out in under a year when he should be for a lot longer.   Personally in death cases the criminal should spend a minimum of what was left of the victims average lifespan in jail. In this case the former officer should spend 26 years in jail because the average lifespan of this 54 year old women is now 80 years.   We no longer have a justice system. We have a legal system with an eye to save money rather than actually punish.
  7.   We may have time to fix the political mess but I am very afraid the economic mess cannot be fixed, at least not without MAJOR hardships by everyone. I see any fighting being over resources, either those supplied by the government or those belonging to those who worked for them. We are already fighting over resources. We are fighting to try to keep enough of our income to live comfortably while the other side is fighting to take as much of our income to do the same. Imagine when it is no longer about being comfortable and is about staying alive.
  8. Problem is that system is broke. We all have seen the reports of voter fraud. I have even witnessed it first hand in my small community where there are probably less that 5,000 voters. And if it is happening in my small community then it is widespread. I cannot imagine any precinct having 100% of the vote for any single candidate yet there were several on Philly that had exactly that as well as plenty of other precincts. I am not saying we take up arms to fix it but we need to definitely figure out a way to prevent those who would vote more than once from doing so. I wish there was a requirement for ALL voters to dip a finger in indelible ink. Doing away with early voting is another thing that would go along way towards preventing voter fraud. But even if we did fix the problem with voter fraud I believe that we are too far down the road to economic failure to come back. No amount of voting for what is right will prevent what is likely coming. And what is coming has little to do with which party is in power or who is president. For a long time both parties have been buying votes on credit. And we are really close to having to pay for all those votes that have been bought for generations. No matter how many representatives we replace the economic problem is still going to be there with no easy way out of it. When our government can no longer pay for the votes it buys then, and only then, will those who have been bought will see the error of their ways. But not before those who have worked, and prepared, will have to protect ourselves from those that believe they have a right to what is ours. It will be a matter of class warfare so to speak between those who do have the ability to survive and those who never did.
  9. Not sure about blank guns.   I use them in real guns.
  10. I am going to be adding a 12" Form 1 can to mine by years end. And with a 9.5" barrel it will be 21" but it will be quieter than a slingshot. I might go a little shorter on the can or maybe the barrel but not by much.
  11. Mine will be running a 9.5" barrel.
  12. I would keep it in the 8.5"-9.5" length. There have been some reliability problems with anything shorter than 8.5" when shooting subsonics.
  13. Home Depot and Lowes less them. They use them for their nail guns. I have literally shot hundreds of them without issue. Something like $4/100
  14. I will admit the last gun I borrowed I shot it a lot and returned it dirty. Normally I would have cleaned it but the guy I borrowed it from is just as bad as me for not cleaning guns. If I borrow a gun and it is pristine that is how it will go back but I will not borrow a filthy gun and return it clean. Some people, like me, don't mind a dirty gun as long as it functions.
  15. +1   Another story of a gun guy trying to screw over another gun guy. Glad it worked out for the OP besides the aggravation. But more importantly I hope the other guy remembers this to a point he never does it to another "friend".
  16. Local or national?   Here is their read on the process: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/how-to/become-an-ffl.html
  17. It really isn't that expensive to get teh FFL. The killer will be the insurance.
  18. If you take possession of a serialized part for the purpose of doing ANY work you must have a FFL. Even if it is with your neighbor you still need a FFL to be able to do any work. Shipping of serialized parts or not shipping of serialized parts has nothing to do with it.   The FFL has nothing to do with county licenses, it is a federal license and no amount of county paperwork can circumvent it.   Just trying to keep you out of hot water. You will have at least one customer that will not be happy and try to grief you. If you don't have an FFL it will be easy.
  19. Something I have done is shoved an airsodt BB down the neck of a 223 round and used the primer to launch it. Works about as well as your average airsoft rifle. BB does go off in some pretty randon directions.   MAKE SURE TO CLEAR THE BORE BEFORE SHOOTING REALL AMMUNITION!!!
  20. I really wish they would make a dedicated 22lr version. I would buy one in a heartbeat if they did. They said they would release a conversion but never a dedicated 22lr version.   They are really lightweight. Can you imagine one with a 2.5" or 3" barrel and a shorter 20 round grip. Would make a great BUG.
  21. Are you a FFL and if so what is the name of the business?
  22. Yeah, I see the officer loosing his job, pension and likely getting some sort of legal penalties. I personally he gets some time in jail but I suspect it will be probation.   One thing I wish would happen is that officers could not hide behind their department. I mean if an officer screws up the officer should be responsible for legal costs related to trial in his defense, not the tax payers. Then the victim should be able to get damages from the officer with the jurisdiction picking up the remainder of the award that the officer can't pay. Yes, any suit lists the officer as a defendant but they rarely, if ever, have to pay out of pocket. At least not the cases I have had personal knowledge of.
  23. You are going to have a hard time getting it quiet and lethal.
  24. I say we nominate Mikegideon to take one for the team. (Coming from someone who has been caught wearing pink footy socks)
