Counterfeit EOTech
Dolomite_supafly replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have seen and actually bought some Chinese knock off scopes that worked really well. You can't expect the $20 Aimpoint knockoff to last but the last one I bought cost me $80 and lasted a very long time on some very hard kicking guns. Had another friend who bought a $125 ACOG knockoff. It had the stadia lines on the reticle and they actually worked for 5.56. It wasn't expected to live but it survived full auto 223 and 308's. It stayed on both for hundreds of rounds. I got a fake Leupold Mark 4 in trade. I tossed it in the safe as a give away scope and it stayed there for a few years. Then I decided to try it on a 22, then on a 223, and it worked fine. It tracked well and was surprizingly clear. I decided to take it apart to actually check some things and it did have issues. First, it was not sealed inside and second, the clicks would have eventually went away because both parts were soft brass. But for a scope that now costs under $100 it was a deal. The parrallax needed adjustment but other than that it was a decent scope for $100. I have zero issue buying a Chinese optic but I also realize I have to be willing to risk a little more. And it is a risk because the last bad optic I got would have cost me more to send back than I spent but that was my fault for expecting the $25 micro red dot to work as well as my $200+ Fast Fire. Realize that most scopes are now made in the region. Heck, some of the Leupolds are made in the Phillipines now. You just have to forget about getting a decent scope CHEAP. And finally, if it sounds to good to be true it is but also be aware that there are thieves out there willing to rip you off. I have found several dealers at shows selling knockoffs for the same price as real. Assume all optics are fakes unless the seller can PROVE they are real. -
NEWS FLASH!!! Man breaks several laws then complains about law enforcement doing their job. I wish they had a database of people who complained about cops doing their job and when they call 911 they get a recording "I'm sorry we are unable help you" followed by a click. Carrying a baton is against the law unless you are a certified. Why carry a baton when carrying a firearm carries the same penalty if you are not certified?

Age has nothing to do with it because a firearm was being used and the firearm is an equalizer. Being 107 doesn't make the gun any less lethal. I would be condemning the officers if the 107 year old man was trying to fight them using only his body strength but he was not, he was using a firearm that could have killed any of the officers that had a legal right to be there. Any firearm is capable of serious bodily injury or death regardless of the age of the shooter. And in this situation SWAT was warranted because you have a criminal who had previously stated that officers would have to kill him. Then the criminal shot at the initial officer (not SWAT officers) who attemped to make contact. SWAT was called out AFTER the criminal shot at the officer (not SWAT) who tried to make first contact. When the criminal shot at the officer then it required SWAT to be called for everyone's safety. And SWAT is what should have been used because they are the best trained for situations like this. They are not trained to run in with guns a blazing. They generally have a lot more training on "no shoot" situations than most road officers. In the end the officers had a legal right to be there. The homeowner did not have a legal right to shoot at them. And because of this the officers had every right, legally and morally, to stop the criminal's lethal assault on innocent people. And one more thing for those who may not know. The reason why you do not wait a criminal out is because it allows them to barracade themselves, boobytrap the entrances and better arm themselves. Any one of these things makes it more dangerous for the officers. As long as entering doesn't place innocent people in danger it should happen as soon as and quickly as possible.

I don't care if the person is 7 or 107 if they are trying to kill me I will try to stop that threat. If a firearm is being used then expect the same level of force to be returned, regardless of age, in order to stop the threat. Him being 107 has about as much to do with it as the color of his underwear. Anyone can assault another, be it someone who is 7 or 107 or somewhere in between. Just because one person doesn't feel it was an assault doesn't mean it isn't an assault or that another person feels the same way. Now I might be embarrassed to admit I was assaulted by a 107 year old but it doesn't mean it didn't happen or that the person could not be charged. It also depends on the type of assault. If a 107 year old fires a gun at me then I would, as most would, feel that an assault took place. There are a lot of things that a 107 year old can do to assault another. Here he is pointing, and shooting, a firearm at innocent people who ahve a legal right to enter his house. An assault doesn't even require physical contact to be made. All that is required is for someoen to be afraid it may happen. Acting like you are going to hit someone, even if you don't make contact, is an assault. Pointing a weapon at someone IS an assault so the officers had a legal right to be there and the criminal, on the other hand, did not have a legal right to shoot at the officers. If his family, or doctors, knew he had dementia then they should have prevented his access toa firearm. Once again the fear of hurting someone's feelings lead to a more serious problem. Had they removed the firearm long ago, like they should have, it would ahve upset the elderly man but he wouldn't be dead today. As far as waiting that might have helped but what happens if he is an insomniac and never goes to sleep? How long are you supposed to tie up resources and wait to enter to do your job that you are legally allowed, and perhaps required, to do? Or what if he decides to start randomly shooting through walls and injures a innocent person. At what point do you risk innocent people to save someone who is committing serious, as in felony, crimes? The 107 year old man was committing crimes that could have easily killed others. He was a criminal and age had zero to do with it. Now his age, and any underlying mental condition, may have come out during his trial as mitigating factors but are we supposed to allow him to continue to commit crimes because he is 107 or has a mental condition? I think not.

22 lr local gun shop e flyer
Dolomite_supafly replied to Wiljo05's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Why not post the name of the shop to save some of us a trip. -
Well then I think all the blame should fall squarely on the shoulders of former President Bush. And if that won't pass muster then try to blame it on Obama. Between the two, one of them is at fault for it.

Wait time to cash check?
Dolomite_supafly replied to daveW's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I sent my paperwork off April first, they got it a few days later and the check was cashed June 29th. So roughly two months to cash the check. -
More fear mongering. I can pick and choose words to quote and make anyone seem to say something else.

Something else, some of use who really like to shoot might want to take up another form of shooting. Shotgun ammo, at least the last time I paid attention, was still sitting on the shelves and still cheap. I know my next range trip will include my shotgun because I know shotgun ammo is still cheap. I had another member give me some 22lr a few months back because I am getting low. A few years ago I would have 10K+ on hand any given time and got nervous anytime I got below 5K. That was because I would shoot a lot. Now I have well below my 5K minimum. The worst part for me isn't finding any 22 ammo, it is finding specialty ammo like subsonics. I shoot suppressed so I prefer subsonic ammo. Reloading is my way to keep shooting and casting is my way to do it cheap. If there are any reloaders out there that are desperate for bullets, and David doesn't have what you need, I will help you out with some cast. Don't expect me to send you hundreds of bullets a week to keep you shooting because that isn't going to happen. But if you need bullets for a HCP class, hunting season or something else let me know. But be forewarned I will add David to the conversation so you can buy from him first if he has what you need.

I have used all kinds of boots and the two brands that I have found to be the msot comfortable have been HiTek and Original Swat. But with the most comfortable comes a low service life. Most Original Swat boots never lasted me more than 9 months. The HiTeks were about the same. Merrills are comfortable and last a decent amount of time.

Two years ago I would shoot at least a brick as week. And if I was in the mood to shoot I would shoot that in a day. I have not shot a brick since the first of the year. I have a new 22 that I have shot about 50 times and that is likely all it will be shot until I can walk into Walmart, or some other retailer, and buy a brick or two. And because I cannot shoot as much as I used to I know I am loosing a perishable skill and that skill is what I will use to protect my family. Make no mistake, pulling the trigger on anything helps maintain skills more so than not pulling the trigger at all. I have even considered buying a pellet pistol to be able to practice proper sight picture. So these people buying up all the ammo are keeping me from practicing or at least practicing without a lot of cost or effort. I can shoot my centerfire handloads loaded with my cast bullets but that is a lot of labor to be able to practice when I should be able to shoot 22's.

That is a super nice setup. You are going to have a hard time shooting better than the gun is capable of with quality ammo. Now you need to find a decent mildot scope to toss on top.

Suppressor Rebuild
Dolomite_supafly replied to EMB145's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I would buy Winchester subs 4-5 bricks at a time. Now I can't find it. I am also pretty lucky to have a couple of firearms that stabilze the Aguila SSS. A 16 twist will not but a 15 twist will and my Contender as well as a early Marlin 880SQ both have 15 twists. The SSS is miserably loud in a semi auto but in a bolt gun they are amazingly quiet. Those are the only two guns I have found that stabilizes it enough to shoot through a suppressor. Something else. Supersonic shorts are still supersonic in a rifle. Winchseter Dynapoints tend to stay subsonic in 16" semi autos but supersonic in bolt guns with barrels 16" and longer. They are very quiet in semi auto pistols but cycle well. Dynapoints are also as accurate as most budget target ammo. If the barrel is 4" or shorter all ammo will remain subsonic. The higher the velocity though the more port noise. The bullet also gives off a fair amount of noise as it flies through the air, even if it is subsonic. If you shoot into the ground at your feet you will see how quiet the suppressor really is. Just make sure not to shoot yourself in the foot. -

If you get K baffles it will be the best for use with subsonic ammo. My Form 1 can is all K baffles and it is pretty quiet. It gets even quieter when I add coolant. Ammo makes a huge difference too. Supersonic, bulk ammo is the worst as far as port noise. Even if the bullets are not supersonic all the extra pressure coming out of the port makes for a very loud gun. Subsonic ammo is a lot quieter. The suppressor increases the pressures too and that only increases the port noise. The quietest and most accurate ammo I have shot has been the Winchester Subsonic Hollow Point. It is even quieter that CCI Subsonic. -
I gave you the videos to do it yourself. It really is very, very easy. So easy in fact that if you bring it to my house I will show you how to do it. You have to drill or grind 3, yes three, rivets and knock out two trigger pins. Beyond that there is nothing else you need to do. These receivers start out as REAL Ak-47 receivers so all the correct cutouts are there. You will need to spray it with some paint, I use chalkboard paint, to cover the area under the riveted plate.

Dolomite_supafly replied to EMB145's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Make sure they use K baffles. They are the best for 22's if suppression is the top priority. I do not trust any manufacturer's numbers. They all test to have their suppressors give the best possible numbers. And what sounds great on a pistol may be miserable on a rifle. I have some very significant lists of suppressors that were tested using the milspec standard by the same company. This ensures all the suppressors are on the same, level playing field. And with that the top 5 on the 22 pistol list are not in the top 5 of the 22 rifle list. But in the end anything is better than the Mite. What is your primary suppressor host? There are things that can be done to certain guns to improve the suppressor's performance. Also, if the Mite is stainless I would look at using some sort of suppressor liquid. I personally use hand sanitizer. It doesn;t last as long as other mediums but it is CHEAP and WORKS great. -
You can actually get into Costco to check it out. You can even shop in Costco without being a member. Go to the door worker and tell them you want to buy a gift card. You buy the gift card then use the gift card to shop. You pay with the gift card and any amount owed after that can be paid for like any other store.

Same at my local Walmart. I have been trying to get with the manager to offer to him a stamp the says "Originally sold at Walmart". This would hopefully keep some people from buying it. Or a stamp that says "Not for resale". While it is unenforceable legally it would raise enough suspicions to keep them from being resold. In 2008 Bass Pro had some guys who would block the isles while their buddies would load up carts on shipment days. If you tried to get by those blocking the ends of the isle they would start screaming about how they were being assaulted. They would scream they were calling the cops and such. It was such a circus that most people didn't want to take a chance on getting by. I talked to a salesperson and asked if the manager knew. They said the manager did and didn;t care because the ammo was being sold. That was probably the last time I bought ammo, or anything other than a soda and beef jerky, from the store. I will not support a store that supports that kind of antics. I didn't even go back and use my points. I met a dealer who was buying all the ammo when bricks were $12. I asked if I could get a brick and he said sure, $20. He wanted me to give him $20 then he would hand me a brick and I would have to pay for the brick. I laughed and he said if I decided I wanted to buy some come to XXX gunshop but it would be $37. That was his mistake. After that I blasted the story on every single board I could find. I told all my shooting friends and they spread the word. Six months after this he shut his doors when every other dealer was doing well. Like you said, they have every right to ask whatever they want but I have every right to blast them if I am not happy about it.

Very Graphic Video of 50 Caliber Barrett Rifle
Dolomite_supafly replied to bersaguy's topic in General Chat
It is not peole being shot. It is a video of someone shooting marmots. As a matter of fact if I remember correctly it was a 7mm mag that was being used. -
For me I don't find the beauty in the diamonds, gold or pearls. I find it in the mechical abilities of old world craftsmen. Remember this was when the world had never heard of a calculator, digital micrometers or most machines. I find it fascinating in that I cannot visualize how it works. In the same way RED333 finds mini V8 fascinating, which I do too, I find these fascinating. Not because of their outward beauty but because of their complexity.

And a time limit would allow that. Not sure if it is possible but I am a member of another board that you can edit the posts for about 10 minutes then it is locked in place. I think it would also have a secondary effect of forcing people to standa by what they post. People post something then decide to change it. If it was worth posting in the first place it should not be edited or deleted later.

Although he is not required to pay sales tax on ammo bought inside TN he MUST pay a "Use Tax" on everything bought and shipped to Tennessee. On top of this he must also report every red cent he makes that is profit and pay income tax on it. I also wonder how he is able to get the ammo from local stores so readily, maybe he doesn't have a job or maybe he is on disability. And if he is on some sort of disability because he cannot work I would be willing to bet Social Security would be very, very interested in someone who is in fact able to make money AND collect benefits. I wonder how many Benton Jones' there are in the Chattanooga area. It is his right to do everything he is doing as long as he is following the rules the rest of us have to follow. I know I detest paying taxes but I do so because I have to pay my fair share. But when others are not paying at all or not paying their fair share they should be held accountable. And every time he buys from out of state he MUST, as in it is required by law, for him to pay a "Use Tax". It is the same rate as the state sales tax. http://www.tennessee.gov/revenue/faqs/consumerusefaq.shtml And as David said once before, we are not going to save people from themselves.
