I bet it was the wad. It looks light colored like most wads are and they are soft enough plastic to be elastic. Wads had enough energy to go through cardboard at 20 yards so I bet it had enough energy to knock his hat off at that distance.

What kind of Dell? I have a couple of old ones sitting around. If you have the same model I will send you a power supply.

So they are going to smuggle in pistols and rifles that can be bought, or easily stolen, here right now? I don't think so. I don't think there is any risk of these stolen weapons being used here on US soil. Now if you happen to live in the region then you might need to worry but even then I suspect you would not need to worry about these weapons that were stolen but about being in the region itself. The parts to convert any stardard AR into full auto can be bought legally. It is illegal to own or possess those parts if you own, or have in your possession, an AR unless you already have approval from the ATF for a machine gun. I know I would not even think about owning a single part used in the conversion process even if I didn't own an AR. Criminals here who are wanting a full auto AR can buy the parts, and convert, for a lot less than trying to smuggle one of these machine guns in. The cost of these parts, through Brownnells, is under $100. Or the bad guys could buy the parts from certain dealers at the gun shows. It requires a lot less work to convert an AR already here than trying to smuggle a weapon into the country. Even if they could smuggle those weapons in without being caught the cost to get them here is far more than the cost to convert an AR already here. It would cost a lot less to convert than that to smuggle a frearm into the country from over there. A few very minor, simple changes to the lower, that I will not get into, is all that needs to be done. The risk to smuggle in a gun, even a Glock, is likely too high when one can be bought here. I seen Glocks for sale at this last show for $329. It would probably cost more than that to try to smuggle one in. So I just see a bad guy buying, or stealing, one rather than trying to smuggle one in. The bad guys had night vision before these were stolen. They have pretty much everything we do or at least have the ability to buy it. They are also being supplied by sympathetic countries such as China with equipment and arms. Even China makes AR's. I always told my guys that if it was something that could eb found on Ebay then assume the bad guys probably have it.

The Lee Safety scale works and is cheap. I used one for the first couple of years I reloaded. Be warned though that any balance beam scale is going to be a lot slower than an electronic. When I went from balance beam to electronic I couldn't believe the difference in time it saved.

He is dishonest but I do not believe he is Muslim. I am not sure he is any religion he claims to be but his actions don't prove to me he is a Muslim. As far as being groomed from an early age I call BS. Seems to me if he was being groomed he wouldn't have he name he has, attended the schools he did or had any controversy over where he was born. He just happened to be someone who could beat McCain and to be honest who couldn't.

I used to buy them all the time when they were like $1 each. Good thing too because you would get about one good one out of like 5-6. Even the good ones were awful. On more than one occasion I would hear a racket only to find out 1/2 the magazine emptied after the feed lips failed. Drop a loaded magazine and the rounds would fly out.

Voting in icumbents seems to be working so well for the country now. How long has McCain been in office? And he is a R. Plenty of other examples of R's not representing their conservative base after being in office for a while. -
Muslims are required to pray five times a day. I seriously doubt he could pull that off without someone snapping a picture or witnessing it. He attended Christian services with Reverend Wright for a very long time before he took office. I doubt Obama, or anyone, would attend that long then after getting elected become a muslim. Is he bad for the country? You better believe it but I seriously doubt he became a muslim after becoming president.

I will always square up the receiver and that changes the amount the nut will turn to get the gas tube lined up. I have even done it when the barrel nut needed a lot more than it should to line up. On a FORGED upper the key slot for the barrel alignment is punched out. This creates a raised area that tilts the barrel down. Something else is the barrel does not sit flush because it has a high spot at 12 so it touches at the 12 and 6. By squaring it up it makes sure the barrel has 100% contact with the upper receiver. When the barrel doesn't sit flush I think it creates inconsistencies as the gun is firing and heating up.

I actually installed Windows Vista on a Dell that had XP. Then after realizing Vista sucked I hit alt+F11 and reinstalled XP from the hidden drive. I did not change partitions though. Changing partitions generally erases everything. -
I would get a different barrel if your intent is to compete. You can get an appropriate barrel for under $300 and be a lot more competitive. I would try to find a 8 twist barrel that way you can shoot anything that can feed from a magazine without over spinning some of the lighter bullets like a 7 twist can. 53 grain Sierra Match Kings will sling their jackets off at 3,200+ fps in a 7 twist barrel. If you are planning on shooting heavier bullets I would suggest getting a longer barrel too in order to push them a bit faster. Here are a few that would be more competitive than what you have. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/794051/ar-stoner-barrel-ar-15-223-remington-wylde-medium-contour-1-in-8-twist-18-fluted-stainless-steel http://www.midwayusa.com/product/577053/ar-stoner-barrel-ar-15-223-remington-wylde-sdm-r-contour-1-in-8-twist-20-fluted-stainless-steel

5.56/.223 Case Prep and Handload Question(s)

I run a Lee on a drill and it isn't bad at all. I will say that the locking ring can be a pain to get tight sometimes so I added a small handle to it to give me a little more leverage. I drilled a hole in the side of the locking ring then drilled it, tapped it and installed a screw. It lets me get it tight now with the additional leverage. -
Make sure you are not shooting from a bipod or off a hard surface. Those two things can increase the groups sizes. The groups you were getting initially are typical for most AR's. And there is nothing wrong with it because they are battle rifles where if they shoot minute of bad guy they are good. Even the 4" groups from Tula are minute of bad guy out to 400 yards. Having a gun that shoots 2"-3" during rapid fire is not bad, in fact it is very good Heat related drift is all about concentricity of the barrel around the bore. If the barrel is a little thinner on one side then that side grows faster than the thick side and causes the barrel to bend slightly. This can result in the bullet impacts shifting. If you are lucky the shift will be up but in most cases it is not. It is possible to improve the shift if it is really bad but requires removing material from the outside of the barrel as it is spun on the axis of the bore. The fix may be dramatic or it may not fix it by much but it will fix it. The reason a high quality barrel costs more is they take more time to ensure the outside profile is concentric to the bore. The extra time results in extra cost to make but that also results in a barrel that shifts less when it gets hot. My lightweight gun, that weighs 5 pounds, has a very thin 20" barrel. I bought the barrel brand new from a smith whe said it was a high quality barrel but I don't remember the maker. I didn't think anything about and actually expected the barrel to move all over the place after a few rounds because it is so thin. But in reality it stays right where it should after a dozen or more rounds when the barrel is extremely hot. This tells me the barrel is very uniform around the bore and the maker built it right. The barrel is .6" under the carbon fiber free float tube and .55" in front of the gas block and shoots better than some of the government profiled barrels I have owned. You can actually see the barrel move when you push on it with your finger. The gun is also gassed perfectly and even though it weighs 5 pounds it feels like you are shooting a 22.

He said he supports the NRA's right to the first and second amendments, not that he supports the NRA itself. I say let him be fired and go find some journalism job in some liberal newspaper rather than teach our children. Personally, he should be shunned by everyone for advocating something so heinous on those so innocent. I hope he finds himself without a job and without the means to say things like this ever again.

Guidelines Regarding Law Enforcement Threads on TGO

+1 If your sole intent is to show LE in a bad light then don't post it, Tennessee related or not. If it is negative and has merits for discussion then post it but only if it involves Tennessee. If you are looking for a hard line that is going to be difficult to do because topics and posts vary widely. Worst case scenario your post will be deleted. Best case scenario we have something we can all discuss. -

I would rather take a chance on someone I don't know than vote for a politician I know will not represent me. I am tired of those who are supposed to represent me not doing their job. Right now the only difference between most democrats and republicans is the letter next to their names. And being a career politician is worse than being a democrat or republican. -

I seen a document on a study where the ATF was estimating the cost of fingerprinting and CLEO requirements for all current, not future, trusts. That tells me that it will be retroactive in that current trustees will have to submit fingerprints and CLEO certification. If anyone is interested I will try to find it again. It is a PDF. -

China doesn't want our drone technology to build their own, they are more than capable of building their own. They want the technology to be able to defeat our drones. I have said for a long time that we are at war with China. Our soldiers find their Special Forces soldiers embedded with our enemies in the middle east. Our soldiers are being hurt and killed by those enemies using Chinese munitions. And that has been a relatively recent development compared to the industrial espionage that has been going on for decades. China has a military that is comparable to ours in strength. They outnumber us by shear numbers but we do have a technological advantage, at least for now. That technological advantage is growing smaller and smaller every day but not because of spies or espionage but because US manufacturers are sending them the plans to have China build it cheaper. People say China could not afford to loose the income from the US. I say it would be hard on them but I think the hit to their economy would be a lot less dramatic than ours if we quit trading wtih them. China sells their products to most countries in the world. But the US gets most of its products from China. If China chose to quit selling to the US we would fall like a house of cards in a matter of weeks. Our economy is so fragile right now that even a disruption for a few weeks could tear us down. We have no industrial base here anymore and it would likely take years to bring anything on line. In the mean time Americans would be living in panic because they cannot walk into a store and buy what they think they need from their local Walmart, KMart or Target. Inflation would make most things too expensive for the average person. Imagine what would happen if China refused to sell to the US. We would be so distracted by all the civil unrest that it would make us ripe for invasion in a matter of weeks or months. -

I suggest one single thing to fix a lot of our problems and if everyone did it the country would be a better place. Vote out any incumbent and if that means voting in a Democrat so be it. Once they realize they might actually have to go back to work or open a business they might change the laws that affect other business owners. Look at the voting record of most first term representatives. They almost always vote with the country's welfare in mind but a term or two later they have turned and begin supporting their own agenda or trying to get their share of what Washington has to offer. If we can get a government of all first termers the laws being passed or repealed might actually improve the country. People want to complain but do not want to put forth the effort to ensure the representatives up for election do represent them. We do not make calls, do not volunteer, do not engage people in conversations or donate to those we want to win. Then when we don't get to vote for the person who we didn't support in the first place we refuse to vote in protest. How many of us actually did ANYTHING to help their chosen candidate? If you want to change the country it takes more just waiting to see if the person is on the ballot is someone you would vote for. Contact anyone and voice your support even if they are not running as the representative of your area. There is no law that says you have to stop at the border of our district. The liberals have us beat and always will as long a we sit around and do nothing. They get out and talk to people, they organize, they donate and they are very vocal as well as reach out into areas not their own to ensure their candidates win. On the other hand Republicans sit in silence as their means of protest. I suggest we all take our angst and become more outspoken. Call your candidate and voice your support. Contact others and let them know who you support. Volunteer or donate to show your support. Heck, a few emails a day will go a long way. This will do more than sitting in silence waiting to vote for a candidate that has ZERO chance of winning against a candidate that is organized much better than we are. Heck, there are plenty on here that are outspoken about the issues we all believe in. Take your post, make a call and just read it so your candidate knows how you feel. I know I am contacting my candidates and letting them know I am voting them out of office but not because I support their opponents views but because I don't support theirs. Sitting around doing nothing accomplishes nothing. -

Some examiners are faster than others. Our examiner has a history of being slow. Now they have assigned one person to do a few states rather than luck of the draw like before. My last one was by SantaMaria and took 97 days. She has a history of being extremely quick. Here is the examiner list: http://www.atf.gov/press/releases/2011/06/061711-firearms-nfa-supplemental-information-geographic-distribution-of-nfa-applications-for-processing-by-atf.html I have had two Form 1's submitted since April 1 and went pending June 29. Hoping to have it by December. -

This has NOTHING to do with gun rights. It has everything to do with a business trying to get the largest amount of people to come in and buy something. I know those who participated in the "appreciation" day think they were doing something good for Starbucks but it had the opposite affect. When a person, who doesn't like guns, walks in to buy something and sees a 1/2 dozen guntards standing around holding guns then that person is going to turn around and walk out. So those guntards just removed a segment of Starbuck's customer base because that customer who doesn't like guns isn't likely to come back, at least not initially. And I don't even think this was driven by those who OC. I think it was driven by those who chose to come to Starbucks carrying their rifles and shotguns or having them slung over their shoulders. I have seen people OC in Starbucks and most people sitting around couldn't care less. In trying to show support for Starbucks the guntards just affected them in a negtive way. And this is going to go farther than just Starbucks and that is why the rest of the gun community is so pissed. What is going to happen now is these guntards are going to try to find another business to "appreciate" by storming their business with guns. And what do you think that business' response is going to be? The same as Starbucks because the guntards will have ran off a segment of their customer base as well. Starbucks is doing this to get those customers back, nothing more or less. It is not some grand scheme by the left to take away our rights as gun owners. It is only Starbucks trying to get more cusomers through their doors, especially the ones that the guntards ran off. It has nothing to do with them trying to limit your right to protect yourself. I think Starbucks did the right thing by making this decision. The reason is these guntards, who want to impose their beliefs on others, will get pissed off at Starbucks and never return. It is unfortunate that Starbucks lost a segment of their customer base but I think it is a much smaller segment than those the guntards have ran off with their antics. And I can honestly say that if I owned a business and any crowd affected my ability to make money they would be asked to leave. And yes I like Starbucks and have NEVER been in their store without a gun but I don't scare the crap out of other customers by flaunting it either.
