  1. Buds has always made things right after the fact but EVERY purchase except one has had problems.   I had ordered a new Taurus 24/7 with tritium sights. A few days later the FFL called and said the gun was obviously used and was missing a front sight. I went to the FFL to inspect and it was indeed missing the front sight. I do not belive it was used but the FFL wasn't used the amount of grease Taurus covers their guns with. I contacted Buds and they said to refuse it. So I told the FFL I was not going to take it. He agreed and said it was going to be $35. I asked why and he said he already did the work and needed to get paid. I said I wasn't going to pay and he said he wasn't going to return the gun. I paid the transfer and Buds said it would take a few weeks to get a refund, it didn't but it was over a week.   But rather than wait for the replacement gun I decided to buy another of the same guns and then Buds can refund the purchase of the first gun. While on the phone with Derrick, a supervisor at the time, I asked him to personally inspect the gun and he agreed. After a couple of hours I called him back and he told me he had my gun right in front of him. He acted like he was inspecting it while I was on the phone and even asssured me the front sight was there. So I get excited but because of the weekend I have to wait until the following week to get the gun. I track it and once it showed delivered I called the FFL. He said he hadn't had a chance to log it in or inspect it. So I hoped in the car and headed that way. I got there as he was logging in the guns. The FFL handed me the box so I could open it and read off the serial number. As soon as I remove the plastic I got PISSED. It too was missing the front sight.   Now mind you both guns had tritium rear sights but no front sight.   So I call Buds and spend the usual 20 minutes wating for my time to come up in the que. Once they do I tell the agent I want to talk to Derrick. I get placed on hold then get sent to Derricks voicemail. I leave a message and he calls back a little while later. He seems upbeat because to him I finally got the gun I was waiting on. So I let him know this gun is missing the front sight and that I thought he inspected it while I was on the phone. He admitted he hadn't but did tell and worker to inspect it. He said I should contact Taurus to see what can be done. I contacted Taurus and they said I needed to return the gun to them so they coudl remove the rear sight and install standard sights. I told them no I just wanted a front tritium sight like what was supposed to be on there. They said they would not send any sights to a customer. I called Derrick back, another 20 minute wait in the que, and he said he would call Taurus. After about 10 minutes Derrick calls back and said you have a set of sights coming. He said to accept the gun. At this point I told him about the previous transfer fee, he credited my CC the transfer and added some for gas. So when I get home I call Taurus to verify I was receiving a tritium front sight. Well turns out it was a standard set of sights and not the tritium like I was lead to believe. At this point I called Derrick back and he said he did all he was going to do.   After getting the standard sights in I went ahead and paid $60 for a tritium front sight. I installed it and shot the gun some but I was so disgusted with everything I sold the gun a few days later.   The most recent was my Cricket pistol. I found one on Buds and I went ahead and ordered it. Less than a day later the price dropped on the website by about 20%. I called Buds and asked them to adjust the price and they said they would not. I told them that they hadn't shipped the gun or even charged my credit card yet. The agent said it didn't matter so I asked for a supervisor. I explained to the supervisor that they had dropped the price on the gun I just ordered and wanted the cost dropped for me to reflect the current price. He said he would not. I explained that I have had problems with Buds in the past and this would make things right. He said that was in the past and had no bearing on this. I asked what would happen if I cancelled the order and reordered. He said I could but because the current gun was already in the works I might get charged then have to wait for a refund. In the end I just let the order go through. He did say that any time they get guns in they take the current price and add a set amount of mark up. He said the reduced ones were likely cheaper for Buds so the price was reduced.   Now I will say when I ordered my third Taurus is came it and was fine. It had a front sight, not tritium, and I will keep it forever. I like it, my wife likes it and it is the most accurate 9mm I have ever shot.   I look around on their website but I go to other places to order guns. Gilbert's guns is one I ordered from and had zero issues. I have also been looking for a reason to order from KY Gun Company because they have decent prices as well.
  2. What name do you want it to be?
  3. By the way that works out to a little over $500K per day since ACA became law. Not sure how many people they have working for them but I suspect it isn't enough to make that seem like a fair daily wage.
  4. Seems to me you could just scratch it when you get to Tennessee.
  5. A big reason I don't anymore is this. The owner bought a bunch of powder from a bunch of dealers at a show but on Monday he filed disputes for all those purchases. Most of the dealers eventually got their money but it tied up the money for a long time. But some didn't think it was worth the hassle. In the end the owner wound up with some free powder on the backs of honest people.
  6. Oh so soon do we forget.   I have a very long memory. As a matter of fact mine goes back to 2004 when the AWB expired.
  7. I was saying the the CMT lowers require no punches to be assembled.
  8. These lowers require no punches. The only pin that is in the lower is the bolt release and it is threaded. It is not driven in place but screws in place.   The only pin in the upper is the forward assist and ANY punch will work for that.
  9. Do not swap parts away from milspec on the lower. The upper should work with ANY lower that works with 5.56.   I would just keep increasing powder charges until it cycles or you see pressure signs on the primers. The powders I would try are Lil'Gun, H110, H4227 and A1680. If it will not cycle by the time you start seeing pressure signs then the port needs to be enlarged by a few thousandths. Continue the process until it locks back on an empty magazine. Make sure you are testing with at least two different brands of magazines.   With a carbine length gas system you are going to be chasing your tail trying to get 200 grain bullets to cycle at subsonics velocities. 200 grains is about as heavy as you want to go with a 10 twist at subsonic velocities. You can shoot heavier but I would not expect them to be stable 100% of the time. I definitely would never fire them out of a suppressor or muzzle brake. Carbine length gas systems tend to do really well with supersonics but not so well with subsonics unless there is a suppressor on the end of the barrel.     That is not going to work for me. My Form 1 says the barrel is going to be 9.5" and because it needs to be threaded for a suppressor I cannot just pin an extension in place. I guess I could give them a call and see how much it would cost.   Actually it is all dependent on whether the Lee 230 grain bullet will be stable in a 10 twist. It has turned out to be a great performer once it is powder coated. Also, because I am going to be hollow pointing the bullet mold so I may just keep things the way they are because 8 twist would be better than a 10 twist if shooting subsonic HP's. I still have a lot of decisions to make but I need to test everything before making a decision.
  10.   I read that three times and I kept on reading "black powder advocate". I kept thinking what does black powder have to do with any of this.       Personally I think it will come down to the "haves" and the "have nots" more so than "black" vs "white". Unfortunately a lot of blacks will be in the "have nots" category so initially it may seem like it is a race war. In the county I live in just .6% are black but 19.8% of the residents, all races, are below poverty level. And those 19.8% are likely receiving some sort of entitlement. And when they get cut off they will be the ones trying to steal to survive.   Those on welfare programs, both black and white, have allowed themselves to become slaves of the government. They have given up all control, as well as their hopes and aspirations, for what amounts to less than minimum wage. They allowed the government to tell them where to live and what they can and cannot buy. I know I would be pissed if I looked back at my life and suddenly realized I gave up all I could have been for what the entitlement crowd receives.   I got really scared, the first time in a very long time, when I thought the government shut down was going to stop food stamp benefits. My wife and I went to buy what we needed to make sure we would not have to go to town for a few months. I suspect that entitlements stopping will be the spark that starts the blaze that will be the end of America as we know it. People riot over a court verdict or when their team loses. Imagine when they loose something as important as the ability to eat or feed their children. People will do more than just loot to feed their kids, especially if all the food is already gone. For a long time we were looking for a place inside a city for convenience but I am glad we didn't find something and stayed where I am now.   We are on a course for this to happen. Unfortunately it will be the retirees that will be starving long before those that receive entitlements begin to starve. I see retirees in my area that are struggling now because of the increased costs. A husband and wife come into a local store once a month with their retirement check. The buy a month's worth of flour, sugar, salted pork as well as a few other small items. That is what they are living on every month and because they are "retired" they cannot get the welfare or food stamps those who never worked receive.
  11. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/10/22/parent-accuses-texas-high-school-football-coach-bullying-after-1-0-blowout-game/   This is insane. Once again lets punish the winners and protect the loosers.   I have a big problem with this because all kids must learn to deal with loosing to prepare them for real life. Sometimes you are the winner and sometimes you are the loser, that is a fact of life.
  12. If you want to watch the news I suggest something like BBC, Al Jazeera, RTM or some other foreign new organization. They generally report our news in an unbiazed way. People want to hate Al Jazeera but it is actually pretty good at reporting the news.   Our media, all sides, generally is very biased and will gladly forget about news if it doesn't fit their agenda.
  13. To your eye? I can't wait to see them all after they are done. Unfortunately lief got in the way for me and I did not order a lower. I did pick up a BCG because they are the best I have seen at pretty much any price.   That would be the one that works. It is the type I have used and even when I am pretty much hanging from the wrench they hold fine. I think I am going to order a new wrench or two for the east Tennessee build party.   Naked hell, if I thought it would help I would check all applicants for hernias.
  14.   Cheaper than the VCOG? WOW, the Trijicon must be EXPENSIVE because I know the Elcan isn't exactly a cheap optic either. Never heard of the VCOG until now.   The VCOG uses a horseshoe reticle developed and patened by a guy I know, Ed Verdugo. He spent at least a decade developing his horse shoe reticle and the 1-6 scope for it. Trijicon's scope performs identical to his with the 1-6 magnification and the horseshoe reticle. His was being offered for sale 5+ years ago and now Trijicon has a "new" variable scope design. I will give him a call to see if they are paying him for it, if not I will never use another Trijicon product.  He offered it to various scope makers but all turned him down then came out with their own horse shoe reticle. He said he went to Leupold when they started using it without licensing and they laughed at him. They told him to sue them but they also told him to remember they have a lot more resources than him and that is why I do not own a Leupold product. He has had several manufacturers use his reticle and the only one to pay him royalties so far is Burris.   Here is Ed's scope that was being sold 5+ years ago. It was extremely well received by the same crowd that normally buys Trijicons. I know if I were him I would be pissed. http://www.nordenperformance.com/crs_specs.html   BTW, Ed Verdugo has been making slings for over twenty years, he initially developed the sling end plate for the AR15. Ed also developed the CQB reticle for IOR Valdada.   No doubt Trijicon products are great and are durable but it is also about doing what is right.
  15. I have used a red dot to hit man sized targets at 600 yards with an AR. Once I figured out hold over it was easy to get 5 out of 10 hits at that range.   I will say that I used a Millett Zoom Dot to do it. It is kind of a unique red dot in that you can adjust the size of the dot from 1 MOA to 10 MOA. It also automatically adjusts to ambient light which is another requirement for red dots I buy form now on.   Another great red dot is a Burris Fast Fire. It has a set size of dot but does automatically adjust for ambient light. It also allows the sight to be turned off which is another requirement. Battery life of the Fast Fire is measured in years.   When using a red dot I zero it at 25 yards. That keeps the bullet within a few inches of point of aim out to about 275 yards. For any scope on a centerfire supersonic I zero it at 100 yards. If you zero at 100 yards then any adjustments for range will all be the same direction on the turret. If you do a 25 yard zero with a scope that is shooting supersonic ammo you have to first dial down then back up which can get confusing.
  16. If you are not going to be shooting past 200 then a red dot will be fine. But don't expect great groups either because most red dots are large making it difficult to get the same sight alignment shot to shot. Even if you are not shooting past 200 a scope would work well too. The only problem is a scope does not allow both eyes open shooting. The groups will be tighter with a scope because the cross hairs tend to be thinner. I have, and use, both and if I am not worried about making super precise shots, like shooting steel targets, I use a red dot. For times when I am shooting for groups, like shooting paper, I use a magnified optic. It is possible to have both on tend same gun as well. I have run that combination before and it works really well.
  17. Where are you located? You are more than welcome to pull the trigger on my Savage version. Be forewarned that the MBC bullets were very bad about leading in several of my guns. Not sure what dies you are using but I would suggest opening the next up some if you plan on shooting cast. If you have RCBS dies give them a call and order the expander ball for a 7.62x54. You will also need to bell the case mouth slightly to prevent shaving the lead bullets. Lee makes a nice universal belling die. I have shot thousands of cast bullets through my AR and the only died effect is the adjustment on my 3 way gas block can get a little hard to turn. And finally, if you are shooting cast bullets through a suppressor you must be able to take the can apart for cleaning. In a relatively short time it can have lead build up. If you have any 300 Blackout questions or questions about shooting lead feel free to ask.
  18. I have searched their sight and cannot find a 10 twist barrel in any length. I prefer 10 over any of the faster twists. I will call them tomorrow to see if they have any in stock.
  19. Lead is dangerous. Just because you think it had no affect on you doesn't mean it didn't. It can cause birth defects by affecting the sperm of the male. It can also cause problems if the female is exposed either before or during pregnancy. And the genetic changes may not show up immediately either. There is a reason why there is no more lead based paint, leaded gas as well as tons of other products that had lead in it. The reason is because it is dangerous.   Lead is probably the most dangerous thing I voluntarily exposed myself to in my lifetime. I was naive and got bit once but not again.   I ask you to please do not minimize the dangers of lead. I would hate for someone to think it isn't dangerous and not take precautions.   I wonder how much it would cost to use bismuth rather than lead?
  20. I stand corrected. I was wrong, you are right.
  21. I say let the gays have the same benefits as any other hetero couple in the eyes of the law. To me the government should see it as nothing more than a contract between two people and it should not matter if the parties are the same sex or opposite sex. I also believe that those who choose to live together without being "married" should be able to have the same benefits as anyone else who lives as a married couple. And if on person wants to live with multiple partners that should be their choice. The government should not have anything to say about who someone can and cannot be partnered with and neither should anyone else.   Religious institutions, as well as their members, should not have a say in how anyone who is not a member chooses to live. People keep saying that the Bible says it is wrong but what if you don't believe in what the Bible says or if you are of another religion. That makes that reason invalid to anyone but the person holding the Bible. You think a Hindu couple gives a rats ass what the Bible says? People are going to live in the way they want to and as long as it doesn't affect anyone else it should not matter to anyone, any government or any religion how they live. It only creates animosity when one group tries to tell another how they should live and having less animosity between us all is a good thing.   People are on a crusade to save other people from themselves. I suggest they spend that time trying to save themselves and leave the rest of the world alone. If we, as a country, could just let people live how they want the world would be a better place.   Just remember this, there are more Muslims in the world than any other religion. If we can force people to live under Christian based laws religion then at some point the majority, Muslims, will be able to force their religious laws upon us as well. Personally I would rather let everyone choose their own way to live than risk being force to live in a way I do not want to.
  22.   You must protect yourself but it can be done safely. I was naive at first but now I am not. I use a mask 100% of the time now as well as other protective gear. I have fans running to draw any fumes away from my body and I make sure to shower afterwards. Even after touching ANYTHING that the lead might have contacted I wash.   Those that tumble their brass inside are being exposed to more lead than most people who cast. I have spoke to a bunch of people since my poisoning and they all said that tumbling in dry media releases a lot of lead into the air. I have quit tumbling now and wash the brass. I powder coat bullets now to reduce the amount of lead I am exposed to when shooting too.
  23. If I could have one wish answered it would be this. There would never again be a "R" or a "D" next to a candidate's name on a ballot.   My second wish would be that no representative could be in office more than one term. If you look nearly all representatives have the country in mind their first term then they get corrupted when they see everyone else making millions on side deals. I bet Cruz will compromise himself and change his tune in a few years.
  24. It was awful. You would put in an appointment and it would show in a few minutes or a few hours, seemed pretty random.
  25. I misspoke. Savage did not make these in 221 Fireball. I thought they did at some point but according to their website they no longer are making them.   The Hornet has a 14 twist so I don't think there is a jacketed bullet that will be stable at 22lr velocities.   About the cheapest way to get what you want is to buy a barrel blank from Green Mountain with a 8 or a 9 twist. The thread it for a Savage and chamber it in something like 22 Jet. 22 Jet uses 357 magnum brass so it will be cheap to reload. You can find Savage actions in pawn shops for $250, the barrel will likely be $75 and the machining will probably be another $150. Under $500 total for everything related to the gun.   If you could find a rolling block Savage in 22 Magnum I bet it would handle a 22 Jet as long as it was loaded to 22 magnum or lower velocities. All it would need is to ream the chamber providing there is enough material to do it without getting into the extractor.   Something else is to find a Remington 591 or 592 and do a centerfire conversion on it. I forget the guys name but there is a smith that has made a living doing that. I am sure he could use a 7 or 8 twist barrel to let you shoot at the slower velocities. I will run the numbers later and see how heavy you can go with a 9 twist barrel at subsonics velocities. I know if you load the bullets backwards it helps them remain stable longer because an unstable bullet is trying to put its heavy base at the front.   Give me a call sometime and we can discuss.
