It comes up in court cases. Like I said before DLM37015 had to explain why he used handloads in a shooting.

Night stand guns caliber and capacity
Dolomite_supafly replied to Duck's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
All of them. If I have to shoot someone I am obviously so scared I am going to empty every round I can into them or in their general direction. I seriously have no less that 50 rounds loaded and ready to grab at a moments notice. And that doesn't include the various other guns around the house. -

Fixed it for you. -
I fold them up in a letter sized envelope and mail it. I do put tracking but other than that I do not do anything.

Recommend .22lr Scope for ~$200

Get the duplex reticle. It comes with spare turrets for the various velocities. The BDC version does not come with extra turrets and honestly the BDC is useless for most loads. -
About to start another AR build…. Stay tuned
Dolomite_supafly replied to sigbrown1297's topic in Show and Tell
Make sure to get an adjustable gas block as well. A properly tuned gas system reduces felt recoil to nearly nothing and with a brake it is nothing. I have a 5 pound AR that feels like a 22. -
I have studied it real hard. In the third position the bolt moving back forces the trigger forward. It does this by pressing down on the front of the lever at the rear. It will have trigger slap but how much is up for debate. When the trigger is forced forward the front of it raises and catches the hook on the hammer. No doubt it will be faster. Especially if you can stand to apply constant pressure on the trigger. Honestly, I suspect that once the ATF realizes that firm, constant finger pressure is applied the gun will continue to fire they will change their ruling. It isn't the first time they have changed a ruling after hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of product have been sold. The Atkins Accelerator was approved by the ATF and the manufacturer sold thousands, at a lot more than this trigger, then the ATF changed its ruling saying it was a machine gun as long as the spring was installed. So all those who bought the stock had to remove the spring from their stock and turn it into a regular stock that they paid hundreds of dollar for.

Yeah I screwed up. This: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/537685/lee-auto-disk-powder-measure will screw into this: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/652922/lee-universal-charging-die I only shoot cast in my 300 so I never crimp. -
14.5" from the front of the receiver to the front of the gas block pad on the barrel. A 15" tube will cover.

This: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/652922/lee-universal-charging-die will screw into this: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/652922/lee-universal-charging-die And this will screw into your turret plate. And it will automatically charge your case with powder when the handle is raised. I would recommend this: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/150005/lee-auto-disk-adjustable-powder-charge-bar To make adjustments easier and more tuneable. -
What will I need for reloading?
Dolomite_supafly replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
You do not need 4. All you need is a sizing die and a seater die if you plan on dropping the powder yourself or run the turret as a single stage. If I were setting it up I would do this. Hole 1: Sizing die Hole 2: universal rifle chargin die with powder measure Hole 3: Seater die Or if I am shooting cast it would be: Hole 1: Sizing die Hole 2: Universal neck expanding die Hole 3: Universal rifle charging die with powder measure Hole 4: Seater die. Or if you want to drop you own powder Hole 1: Sizing die Hole 2: Empty (drop your powder then drop the powder into a funnel on top of the case Hole 3: Seater die Hole 4: empty -

Midway usa is about the best price when you take into account the discounts they give on big orders. They always have coupon codes available. Sometimes it is 10% on $100 and I have even seen them give 20% on $500. I am making the list as though cost is the primary concern and not the time it takes to reload. It is going to be slow going but it isn't that bad. You will probably be able to load a round a minute. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/540522/lee-perfect-powder-measure http://www.midwayusa.com/product/175512/frankford-arsenal-ds-750-electronic-powder-scale-750-grain-capacity http://www.midwayusa.com/product/118739/lyman-electronic-scale-powder-funnel-pan http://www.midwayusa.com/product/417494/hornady-electronic-caliper-6-stainless-steel http://www.midwayusa.com/product/136199/lee-case-trimmer-cutter-with-ball-grip http://www.midwayusa.com/product/518134/lee-case-length-gage-and-shellholder-300-aac-blackout http://www.midwayusa.com/product/261325/rcbs-ar-series-small-base-2-die-set-with-taper-crimp-300-aac-blackout-762x35mm The only thing I would replace on the list to make it a better list is the Lee Perfect Powder Measure. It isn't bad but because it is all plastic it doesn't exude a lot of confidence. I used one for about 2 years and it worked great but I have since replaced it with a RCBS version. For presses I would get one of these two. They are about as low as I would go for quality reasons: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/824144/lee-classic-cast-breech-lock-single-stage-press or http://www.midwayusa.com/product/814175/lee-classic-4-hole-turret-press The difference between the two isn't speed but ease of keeping everything together. With the single stage you have to replace the dies when you switch operations. With the turret each die is preloaded into one of 4 holes. All you do is turn the plate 1/4 turn and you are ready for the next operation. You can also set it up so it automatically rotates so after you pull the handle 4 times a loaded round is done. For making brass I would STRONGLY suggest buying these: A Harbor Freight mini shop saw. http://www.harborfreight.com/bench-top-cut-off-saw-42307.html And one of these tools: http://www.300blktalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=80842 Bascailly the second part replaces the vice on the mini chop saw. It can be adjusted so you can easily make brass that needs very little, if any, trimming. You can easily turn out 10 cases a minute if you get into a groove. It is also a lot safer than trying to cut the cases off using just the vice. Without these making brass can be very, very slow and frustrating. The 223 cases MUST be cust off at the shoulder before sizing and trimming. It can be done without the tools but you will get frustrated, trust me. After trimming you must remove some of the flash left on the case mouth. It is on the inside and outside. For the inside you can use a standard countersink bit that is like $2 at any hardware store. For the outside some people who use scotchbrite pads and they work. Might try that to see how you like it before buying this tool. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/211588/lyman-outside-chamfer-and-deburring-tool The countersink can also be used to remove the primer crimp from military brass. There is no need to tumble cases to clean them. You can wash them and get them clean enough. I use Lemishine mixed wtih hot water and let them soak for 24 hours. Then I rinse them off a few times and let them air dry for a few days. Lemishine is nothing more than a lemon based cleaner. It can be found at Walmart for like $2 and it will last a very long time. You MUST clean any brass that has hit the ground. All it takes is a single piece of sand to ruin as set of dies. Do you by chance have a treadmill? If you do I will explain a cheap and easy way to tumble. For case lube do this: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/48415-case-lube-for-cheap/ Then use a rag to wipe them down after they are sized. That should be everything you need to load except powder, primers and bullets. If you plan on shooting cast you need to bell the cases and Lee makes a universal die to do it. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/140461/lee-universal-neck-expanding-die -
That comes from not instructing a new shooter on the basics BEFORE they shoot. Loading and unloading is the next step following how to make the gun safe. And that should happen long before you hand someone a loaded weapon. He has handed someone a loaded weapon that they have no clue how to make safe.

Just assuming the OP was wanting it for the same reason I have seen every body else who has one. Go to the range, shoot a target at 100 yards and giggle while other people stand around taking videos. I was looking at some 50 BMG rifles last night. Then I realized I don't have a place to shoot it. And my wife probably wouldn't like lugging it around.

Here are a bunch of videos showing 45 ACP. Unfortunately there isn't any FMJ for comparison. The squares the gelatin are sitting on are 1" so most of these blocks are 10" long. http://www.brassfetcher.com/Handguns_files/45ACPSlowMotionvideo.htm And here are the same videos with 9mm. The difference is there IS a FMJ in the bunch. http://www.brassfetcher.com/Handguns_files/9x19mmSlowMotion.htm And in case anyone was curious about other pistol calibers. http://www.brassfetcher.com/Handguns.htm Or rifle calibers: http://www.brassfetcher.com/Rifles.htm Or shotguns: http://www.brassfetcher.com/Shotguns.htm

DLM37015 has went through the hassle of shooting someone with hand loads. I carried hand loads until I heard his story. Now I only use factory ammo and keep the box until I rotate it.
-
A slow moving bullet, like a 45 ACP, will penetrate more than most rifle rounds going 3x as fast. I have posted this before. I took a 95 grain FMJ and loaded it into a 9mm. I was going to prove that FMJ doesn't always equate to over penetration. I loaded one to ~1,300 fps and one to 2,000 fps. The slow one went through several jugs while the fast one never made it out the first. If you slow down the average rifle bullet the penetration will increase until you get down below 1,000 fps. The reason why is most rifle bullets don't penetrate is because their speed is such that it causes the bullet's integrity to fail. With a 45 ACP the bullet does not fail. And a HP is nothing more than a bullet failing in a controlled manner.
-
And ball ammo will pass through the average person. I was shot by a 45 ACP loaded with ball ammo. Had it been modern ammunition I probably would have a lot more problems. When I got shot I had no clue I had been hit for 2-3 minutes until my leg started going numb. It went straight through and felt like a muscle cramp for a few weeks. I will NEVER carry any FMJ in any pistol.
-
Carry hollow point ammunition. FMJ will pass through most people and if it does you are still responsible for that bullet. And honestly the 45 isn't very devastating on its way through when shooting FMJ. Some modern HP ammunition for the 45 will expand beyond .9" and no matter what happens a FMJ will never get that big.
