For those loading 300 Blackout
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I know there are cheaper barrels out there and who knows they might work as well as mine but I am tickled pink with my McGowen barrel. It was $225 at the time for a SS 16" barrel made on a blank and that included the price of the blank. Now I think he charges $240 shipped for a barrel. He will also do it to your specs. Sucks that I am getting ready to chop 7" off the barrel for my SBR. -
AR15 pistol to rifle and back to pistol
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Long Guns
The engravings on the side mean squat. I can mark "AUTO" in the third position of the safety and engrave the lower with "Full auto machine gun" and there is nothing illegal about it unless it FUNCTIONS as a machine gun. The ATF's definition states that it is designed to be fired from the shoulder. Makes no mention of barrel length. If an AR has a 12" barrel AND a shoulder stock it is a rifle. If an AR has a 20" barrel and a shoulder stock it is a rifle. If you remove the shoulder stock from the 12" gun it is no longer a rifle just like if you remove the shoulder stock from the 20". The shoulder stock defines the rifle. A pistol has a rifle bore so that part of the definition isn't exclusively rifle. Firing a fixed metallic cartridge isn't exclusive to rifles either. You take away the shoulder stock and it becomes either a "pistol" or "firearm", depending on overall length. Take a "pistol" and add a shoulder stock and the "pistol" becomes a short barreled rifle. The opinion stating that having a stock on an AR lower doesn't matter is a relatively new opinion, 2010. For years prior to this if an AR lower came in with a stock attached it transferred as a rifle. Maybe it all changed with the "other" classification on the 4473 but I know for a fact at least 6 years ago an AR lower with a shoulder stock transferred as a rifle if it had a shoulder stock. Even with that copy of the opinion I would caution against assuming that an AR lower with a shoulder stock is not a rifle. I have talked in depth with various agents at the ATF and they have all said that if the private letter ruling doesn't have your name at the top it doesn't apply to you. This only adds to the confusion that is the ATF. Now I am sure you could use another's opinion letter as evidence. ATF rulings apply to everyone and a private letter ruling only applies to those who the letter is addressed. And if anyone thinks the ATF doesn't get concerned when a gun that was previously transferred as a rifle gets transferred as a pistol I will gladly accept the transfer of a stripped lower that was once a rifle. It will not be me getting the call asking why I changed a rifle into something other than a rifle. And another word of caution, if someone ends up with a stripped receiver that once a rifle and then assembles it into a pistol they have a unregistered SBR. -
Crap, what kind of gun? Hopefully nothing too nice but I suspect it was knowing you.

AR15 pistol to rifle and back to pistol
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Long Guns
A gun that was ever a rifle on a 4473 will always be a rifle. There have been people I have spoke to who sold a lower that was once transferred as a rifle. When it was found out the stripped lower had once been a rifle the seller got a call by the ATF asking why the rifle they had bought was now being sold as something other than a rifle. Despite what some people may think, they do keep records of transactions. And they do know when a rifle is transferred as something other than a rifle. To add to even more confusion I read a opinion letter this week that says that if a lower was transferred with a stock but not an upper then it didn't meet the definition of rifle and should be transferred as other. That is in direct conflict to what it has been for a very, very long time. It is listed in here somewhere. http://www.openatf.com/rulings That is a list of the more notable opinions. And yes, that is the official ATF website. -
Honestly, most women would fall for this, blond or otherwise. As a matter of fact I bet a lot of men that are unfamiliar would fall for it as well.

High Standard Model 107
Dolomite_supafly replied to MemHeli's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Be mindful too that older guns tend to be works or art, both inside and out, so there are some very small parts inside that are easily lost. I would recommend taking detailed pictures as you tear it down to make reassembly much easier. I would also caution against getting it refinished unless absolutely needed. Most times refinishing ruins the value of a antique gun. During the process the important markings can be buffed off. And an older gun that has been refinished with a bright blue, like they use these days, doesn't look right. It is also very easy for a collector to spot one that has been refinished because of the bluing. I would get it in shooting condition then use it like it was meant to be used. -

Seeing how you have no money in it I would take it to a smith and let them take it apart and clean it all up. -

What will I need for reloading?
Dolomite_supafly replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I don't crimp using those dies. I do set them up to remove the bell on the case. I have to bell because I shoot cast 99% of the time. -
LOL........ Better guess would be Christmas of 2014 or spring of 2015.

And having a wife that both enjoys shooting and carries a firearm is a great thing. Never know, she might save your life someday with that XD.

Anybody here have their FFL out of their home?
Dolomite_supafly replied to serbu50's topic in General Chat
You will have to have some modifications to your home to have a FFL/SOT. And it also depends on what you plan on doing. Simple transfers might be the easiest way to get an FFL but if you plan on actually doing any gunsmith work it requires a lot more. Just the simple act of coating firearms requires certain criteria to be met. And if you are within the city limits you might have to find a place that is zoned commercial or even industrial depending on what you actually plan on doing. -
I wonder how things are going to pan out when the ultra gay crowd that demands tolerance meets the ultra strict Muslim crowd wanting the same? Personally I think a business should be able to refuse to sell to anyone for any reason they choose. I do not agree that any one group should be able to force another group to do something against their will. I am handicapped and if someone refused to sell to me because I was handicapped I would be upset but I would take my business elsewhere rather than compel them to take my money. I would rather them not have my money and I spend my money where I am welcomed. You can tell by the picture that the couple is a "look at me, I am gay, look at me!" type. Problem is these types go way out of their way to make people feel uncomfortable then cry foul when someone doesn't like it.

I have a progressive but still prefer my single stage. I load everything on my single stage, pistol and rifle calibers. -

I have no clue why they make them with .936" gas pads. Make no sense to me to me why they did especially when you consider there is probably 100x as many items for a .750" gas pad than a .936". -

I will take a hole that is not cleaned up to save $40. Mine that I actually received is a work of art. -
What will I need for reloading?
Dolomite_supafly replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I don't think someone needs a large amount of money to reload. There are a couple of lists now that I have posted where a person can get everything they need for under $200. Is it the best, top of the line equipment? No, but it will produce ammo better than you could buy and do it for a lot less. -
Remington mod. 30 Express
Dolomite_supafly replied to 79troublehead's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
It likely left the factory with a rust blued finish. It is generally dark brown in color and some people confuse it for rust. -
I carry a 1911 every single day and have for the majority of my time in the military and a lot since I got out. I ALWAYS, with a capital "A", carry it with the thumb safety engaged. The reason is it blocks the sear from being bumped off the hammer hook. Even if the grip safety is not depressed the gun can still fire from a jar if the thumb safety is off. The thumb safety is not so much a safety is it is there to ensure a proper grip. There are a lot of people, including me in the past, who pin the grip safety down or file down the leg to disable the grip safety. Secondly, it prevents things like Tex experienced from happening. If the thumb safety is engaged and you accidentally pull the trigger during the draw the gun will not fire. The Serpa "holster of death" trains people to shoot themselves during stressful situations. When I am training I do not disengage the thumb safety until I am almost on target and generally about the same time as I am putting my finger inside the trigger guard. Now if I am clearing then I disengage the safety but keep my finger out of the trigger guard.

I have never had a problem with the gas system getting clogged with lead and I shoot TONS of cast bullets. My 300 Blackout AR has had probably 300 pounds of lead shot through it and I have never had to clean the gas system. I have recently started powder coating my cast bullets. Keeps me from being exposed to lead fumes. -
I was probably in the Army 1/3 of the time he has and I have more ribbons he does. Says a lot, especially when most officer requests go through a lot easier than the same for enlisted. If he wants to direct some violence I say go ahead but I can guarantee he will receive it ten fold. He talks about being good at what he does, orchestrating violence, but I seriously doubt he has ever personally directed any violence on behalf of anyone. Or more importantly I can assure you he has never had to deal with the effects of violence directed at him. Here is his bio: He is like a lot of blowhards out there. He spent all kinds of time going to schools without any real world experience. BTW, he is a citizen of Ireland as well as the US. Apparently he has done a lot of their national pastime, drinking. And the professional company he keeps makes me wonder about his allegiances as well. http://www.capitallinkworldcorp.com/key-associates.php And here is his contact info in case anyone needed it :yuck:
