Dimensionally loaded 223 and 5.56 is identical. The difference is pressures. SAAMI spec for 223 is 55K psi and 5.56 is more than that. Most estimates is 5.56 runs 65K. Now because of the additional pressures of 5.56 the chamber is slightly different than a 223 chamber. The chief difference is the throat in a 5.56 is slightly longer than 223. This allows the bullet to begin moving, and reduce pressures, before hitting the resistance of the rifling. Because of the longer throat of the 5.56 chamber it is safe to shoot 223 in a 5.56 chamber. Some say that you cannot shoot 5.56 in a 223 chamber. But I have shot a lot of 5.56 out of guns with a verified 223 chamber. Shooting 5.56 in a 223 will not cause some sort of dramatic failure. If it does then your gun had issues in the first place. Proof loads are well beyond the pressures encountered when shooting max 5.56 loads in a 223 chamber. Then there is the estimate that 25% of the "5.56" actually have 223 chambers. As manufacturers chamber barrels the reamers dull and most resharpen the reamer. This reduces the size of the reamer each time. There was a random test done by a publication and well over 25% had 223 chambers so if shooting 5.56 in a 223 chamber caused the gun to blow up we would be seeing it everyday.

Went on gun broker to look for some parts and deals

You are thinking of a MecTec which is perfectly legal because it converts the 1911 into a rifle with 16" barrel and 26" overall. They do make a non SBR version of the Roni. It has a tube that acts like the barrel and is legal according to the ATF. http://www.galatiinternational.com/product/CORONICG123.html -
Destructive 9mm ammunition
Dolomite_supafly replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Yeah but when they say it acts like a holesaw to cut through barriers or that the accustic shockwave of the bullets softens the target before the bullet hits the target. It is when I hear of such nonsense that I know that they are talking out of their ass. I know people try to show their products in the best light possible but don't BS us either. Physics alone will keep it from performing. You have a 90 somthing grain bullet. Figure 1/2 of it is the base. That leaves 8 "trocar" petals that weigh, at most, 6 grains each which is less than a 177 caliber pellet. And because of all the surface area there is no way it would penetrate more than a few inches and that is giving them a lot. Almost any material would slow it substantially as well before hitting flesh. Then you have the ~45 grain base that weighs less than a 25 ACP bullet and we all know how well the 25 ACP works as a manstopper. Even if you double the velocity it is still a 45 grain projectile. These are the bullet equal to the Counter Sniper scopes. They advertised the scopes had "Bertrillium-Zantitium" coatings. BTW, there is no such animal but it sounds impressive. I would also like to hear more about the "rare earth gasses" their scopes are SEALED with. Not to mention the fact they use an ion charge applied to the scope to prevent dust, laughable. Then there is the reticle itself which is really flashy. In the end I wish them well but once the real world testing starts the truth will come out. But by that time they will have sold a metric ton to people who are easily impressed and more easily parted from their hard earned cash. -
Good Molle Tactical Plate Carrier Recomendations
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I picked up a Condor vest on a whim and really like the quality vs the cost. You can get a decent vest, not plate carrier, for under $80. I also have a custom made rig that PACA built for me. I like the Condor better than the PACA but I have not been able to find soft armor for the Condor. The PACA came with the lightest 3A soft armor on the market at the time. As far as plates I like steel over ceramic. Ceramic tends to be rather thick and those extra inches can make exiting vehicles bothersome. I hated when I would get issued ceramic plates. Ceramic plates are fine as long as you know the history, I would NEVER buy used plates from someone I didn't know. I would get the steel plates from here: http://www.ar500armor.com/ar500-armor-body-armor.html DO NOT GET THE LIGHTWEIGHT PLATES, they are rated for pistol calibers only and will not stop rifle rounds. And to avoid the spall that can happen with steel plates pay the extra $25 for the anti spall coating. These plates come with one coat of the spall coating but that is not enough, you need to get the extra spall coating. The cost for the curved plates, which I highly recommend, with the extra coating is $110. These plates are multi hit capable. If it were my money I would buy these: http://www.ar500armor.com/ar500-armor-curved-trauma-plate-advanced-shooters-cut-10x12.html#.UvLhIGeA2dI And then I would add the PAXCON coating. If you have any doubts here are videos. http://www.ar500armor.com/armor-test-videos.html -
I just seen this and thought it was neat for those are the DIY types. The kit, with jig, is $100 and includes about $25 worth of tools. Rather than the typical aluminum 80% lower these are polymer which makes it a lot easier to finish. http://polymer80.com/

I recently bought some stuff off a guy in CT. He said Midway will no longer ship ANYTHING to CT because of their laws. He said that certain gun parts must be submitted for approval by the state. And Midway got tired of having their customer's shipments held up waiting for approval. Because Midway has no clue what is and is not approved they refuse to ship anything to the state. Any manufacturer who plans on selling a gun in CT must submit 5 samples. Even different variants of the same gun must be submitted separately. And those guns submitted are not returned. Imagine a company like S&W having to submit 5 samples of each model they sell, it would run into the hundreds of thousands.

What do you all think? (Drop in Tac-Con 3MR trigger
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Long Guns
It I wanted to have full auto fire for about the same I would get a bumpfire and the www.Arklatextactical.com spring loaded picatinny rail. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk9Q30SMPwU It would be about the same as the Tac-Con trigger and actually work very well. -
Maybe the left handed, Obama model is because he is left handed. The photos are photoshopped some but both could actually be built.

To setup and swage your first bullet is over $1,000 once you buy all the materials and equipment. -

Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
They did tumble but it was because of gas cutting. And the bullet probably never really got a good spin on it. There was tons of lead and powder coat left in the bore of two of the three guns I tried them in. Normally I have zero powder coating or leading but not when they are loaded backwards. Another indicator that they were not sealing very well is my AR would not cycle 100% even though it has been 100% in several thousands rounds. As the gas cutting happened it reduced the diameter of the bullet and allowed gasses to slip by. -

I might sit down and work up a few drawings then see if I can get a maker to offer them. -
Having a gunstock coated with LineX or Rhinolining isn't very expensive. I have called and they said it would be less than $50-$75 depending on color. It would make for a very, very durable stock for any gun. I have a stock I am working on, slowly, that will be coated once it is done. It is a stock that they do not make in left hand but I converted it. Looks and feels great other than the bolt cut out I need to fill and blend. No better way to do that than with some sort of bedliner. I have used the roll on bed liner on stocks as well and it does work well. Not sure if I personally like the way it looks but it does hold up well.

So I know it is common practive to load jacketed bullets backwards for subsonic loads. When a bullet starts to become unstable it is because heavy part, at the rear of the bullet, is trying to overtake the lightweight front. I know I have shot a lot of subsonic 69 SMK's in a 9 twist 223. Loaded like normal thèy turn sideways pretty quick but loaded backwards, with the heavy part facing forward, they remain stable a lot longer. I would never consider shooting them with a can when loaded normal but loaded backwards I have shot a lot of them through my 22 can without issue. Loading bullets backwards also makes it easy to tell by sight, or feel, that they are not standard rounds. So knowing this I have decided to try it with a cast bullet, specifically the Lee 230 grain bullet. They are stable in my 10 or 8 twist guns at 100 yards when loaded normally but they also must be loaded to magazine length. Not sure if they will feed in an AR but in a single shot they should work pretty well. The large frontal area should hit "organic" targets pretty hard and with the extra weight it should give decent penetration. And then the next thing I should try is to hollow point it. I think adding a 3/16" or 1/8" hollow point should be even more amazing. I have always been told, as well as read, that the ideal bullet shape is a teardrop with the heavy part facing forward. So here are pictures of my test loads. There is plenty of room in the case for 8 grains of Lil'Gun and the front of the bullet. Yes, that is a powder coated Lee 230 grain cast bullet loaded backwards into the case. It chambers fine in my single shot so that is what I will be testing. I will also load some so they are engaging the throat. So what say you?

I would gladly own any one of those baby poop green rifles.

Brainerd Army Store = Meth?
Dolomite_supafly replied to buck1032's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Personally if someone wants to use meth more power to them as long as it does not infringe upon me or anyone else. A person should be able to ingest anything they want. A lot of veterans are being prescribed meth to help them deal with mental health issues like PTSD. Actually of lot of kids are being prescribed it as well for their ADHD issues. It is a pretty widely used, prescribed and abused drug. The drug is Adderall. -
Yeah definitely. There are some that are pretty reasonably that would allow you to scout an area. I think I seen some that were in the sub $200 range that sent and live camera feed back to the controller. Here is one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1013786&is=REG&A=details&Q= The range is only 100 yards though. Now if you wanted to record and then view later at home I am sure you can get a lot more range. Some can even be uploaded with a set route to cover and they will fly autonomously. Some of this stuff is absolutely amazing. I have kind of been following the quadrotor stuff for a while now. What they can do and apparently how easy they are to fly is amazing.

Destructive 9mm ammunition
Dolomite_supafly replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If you look at the ballistic gelatin test you can see the round has two problems, under penetration and over penetration. It is not going to work well in the real world. There is no way a 95 grain bullet split into 9 pieces is going to have a lot of penetration. Especially if it encounters such things as clothing. LOL, their video claims the spinning bullet acts like a holesaw cutting through anything in its path. Also the specially designed trocar petals are responsible for the bullet's stability, I guess we can all go to smooth bores now. When they start talking about an acoustic wave I realize they are blowhards. They say the acoustic energy creates an ease of entry at the bullets point of impact. So the noise of the bullet makes it easier for the bullet to enter the body, another huge LOL. In the video there is a lot of fancy talk. The video says it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJGH7cDFw7c -
What about a carbon fiber free float tube? Then drill it and install the rail sections where you want.

DIY Nightvision for CHEAP!!!
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Well I spent about an hour working on the settings and I finally got it about as good as it is going to get. I will only say one word about it now, amazing. Without illumination I can trees against the black sky. WIth illumination I can clearly see everything within 50 yards, maybe farther because I am limited in how much dark I have. I am using a cheap Chinese IR bulb for my Surefire Nitrolon. Now I am on the hunt for a much stronger IR illuminator. I didn't have the correct rings to mount it on my 22 but they are on the way. Once I get those I will mount it on my 22, which is suppressed, and do some night time shooting. I am rarely amazed but I have been amazed by two things in the last year. One is the powder coating and now it is this setup. It is as good as any video I have seen using digital night vision. Anyone who has been to my house before is more than welcome to come out and check it out. Just make sure you let me know before you show up. -
DIY Nightvision for CHEAP!!!
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
The privacy settings that are loaded into the camera software. It allows you to have standard crosshairs and up to four holdovers. Here is a video that explains it a lot better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLpqHv1fmQU No clue on the muzzle flash but it can't be any worse than standard NV. They put these things on high powered springer air guns so if it survives those it will survive almost anything. One of the members of the board I linked has one setup on a 25-06 or a 30-06, can't remember which and he has no problems. He uses it for coyote hunting. The pictures above are done as far as I am concerned with the exception of the battery pack that I have coming. When I get that I will add a mount so I can attach it to a rail. -
Boro Officer ... bullet proof vest, person-to-person sale = trouble
Dolomite_supafly replied to Peace's topic in General Chat
He probably bought his own vest and decided to sell the spare which belonged to the department. I know a bunch of my friends purchased their own after getting issued armor by the department. If the officer tried to sell the department issued vest he is a crook. He should be treated the same as anyone else who would try to steal. Just because he is an officer does not give him the right to any leniency. Now don't treat him any worse but don't treat him any better either. -
