Why you don't use someone elses reloads
Dolomite_supafly replied to babelt's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Not a story about someone else's reloads but about a guy I met shooting his own at Norris. He had been having some problems with his AR so I offered to take a look. When you pulled the trigger it would not fire, almost like it was on safe. I looked down inside the receiver and there was a primer that was in the bottom. I didn't think anything about it and shook it out. I told him he had a primer under his trigger and that was causing the problem. Knowing brass primer pockets can get loose over time I asked how many times the brass had been reloaded. He said he had no clue but he has been using the same brass for a long time. Next I asked him how much powder he was using. His reply, I swear, was "to the top". I asked what he meant and he said he would fill the case to the top of the case mouth then seat the bullet. At first I thought he was joking but he was serious. Then I thought that maybe the measured charge came to the top so I asked how much it weighed and he said he doesn't weigh the powder, just fill the case up. I told him he is lucky he hasn't hurt himself and he acted like I had insulted him. When I got there I had my wife throw a bunch of clays on a bank past the 100 yard line. As I was shooting I guess I hit a couple of this guys clays. Same guy got extremely upset and yelled at me about shooting his clays. I apologized and put a stack of clays on his bench. Then he had to complain about the walk out there. I was on my crutches that I use to walk and he said I had no clue what kind of inconvenience it was to have to walk 100 yards. I chuckled and left. -

The parts do not launch into the stratosphere. They launch with such velocity that they leave our reality and land in someone else's. This is why you always seem to find something you don't remember loosing. That is because in an alternate universe somewhere someone launched that part into our reality. BTW, this is similar to what happens with socks in the dryer. The swirling motion of the dryer opens up a similar space/time portal allowing your left, and only the left, socks to fall through. -
Sig is suing the ATF over the MPX

I just got back some Form 1's. Had they not already been dropped off at the engraver I would have requested my money back from the ATF. Either way it is $200, either to SBR or Sig brace with a proper length tube. -

ATF has publically said that it is perfectly legal to shoulder the Sig brace and fire it from the shoulder. Pretty much nullifying the need to SBR a rifle. -

I once contacted the ATF by phone to ask if I could make a "muzzle brake" for several weapons then register a single tube and move it from gun to gun. I was told that muzzle brake would be considered baffles. I was big into 22's at the time so I was going to use a brake with multiple chambers, like a Miculek, and thread the outside so a threaded tube could screw over it. I was thinking it would at least make the 22 a little quieter. I never wrote a letter to get it in writing like some of my other ideas. -
I too have the Magpul rifle stock and really like it. Feels great and I think it adds a little length.

What kind of pistols? This is what I do to my MK Rugers. For guns shooting supersonics with a suppressor you need a weight that weighs ~2-2.1 ounces. You can add one for subsonics too but it needs to be a lot lighter. It also makes racking the slide so much easier. The extra weight keeps the bolt closed a fraction of a second longer and that keeps the gun a lot cleaner. It also SUBSTANTIALLY reduces the port noise. I bet you could use a heavier recoil spring to do the same thing with locked breech guns.

If the gun is properly gasses you will get no more gas/debris in your face than without a suppressor. Problem with most suppressed guns is people slap them on there without any concerns over the excessive gas pressures. And just like any other gun that is over gassed you end up with additional recoil, additional wear and a lot of crud with some of that crud coming back at the shooter. The reason why suppressed weapons throw crud in the face of the shooter is because, just like an over gassed gun, they unlock when there is a lot more pressure in the barrel. If your gas system is adjusted so the same amount of pressure reaches the bolt with and without a suppressor the amount of crud coming back at the shooter will be the same. Dial down the gas and it takes longer to unlock and this allows some of the pressures to subside before the bolt unlocks. And I couldn't make a statement about gas systems without saying that everyone should be running an adjustable gas block unless you are absolutely sure your gas system is tuned. 90% of the manufacturers out there are running over gassed guns.

Spalling is a non issue with steel that is properly coated.

As long as you buy a quality steel plate with spall protection, good spall protection, it will be better than 90% of the ceramic plates out there. Buy this but add the $25 PAXON build up. That puts it at $110 and it is a great plate. http://www.ar500armor.com/ar500-armor-curved-trauma-plate-advanced-shooters-cut-10x12.html#.U0X3I2eA1ZQ Do not buy the "lightweight" plate as it is a pistol caliber only plate. Here are videos of their plates being shot. http://www.ar500armor.com/armor-test-videos.html Be aware that some of the videos is before they started offering the PAXON coatings. I have used a lot of steel plates overseas and liked them a lot more than the ceramics. I would prefer steel over ceramic any day.

I bought one thinking it would be a cheap carrier to use and abuse then throw away. Turns out the Condor stuff is really good quality, especially for the money. The one I bought works really well and seems to hold up well too.

There is nothing wrong with steel plates as long as you order them with spall coatings. You can get rifle caliber multi hit capable curved steel plates for $120 each and that includes the coating that stops ALL spall.

There is no requirement for a person to be a citizen to get their HCP or buy a firearm. As long as they can pass the criminal background check they can buy a gun and get their HCP. Now there are some restrictions for those on certain types of visitor visas but anyone who is a permanent resident alien can get their HCP even if they are not a citizen.

I don't use the sky screens on my chronograph and it works fine. Have you tried it without the screens?

And with that everyone has said what they needed to say. This thread is done. -
I would like to see some independent verification on the velocity. More importantly I would like to see an AK launch a 112 grain projectile at 3,100 fps. I would not want to be anywhere around it If it in fact makes those numbers. I have talked to them on a couple of occasions when I was looking for adequate subsonic bullets. They are definitely full of themselves and very arrogant to a potential customer. And if you question their numbers be prepared for a very rude response. Here is a testimonial  All kinds of problems with this if you were in the military. They have "testimonials" from people saying they have to make sure to close their mouths because of the "blowback" from the target. Another is when a suspect was shot and he landed 6 feet outside of the door of the place he just robbed. I say these people giving testimony have watched too many shows.

So I begin my descent into madness...
Dolomite_supafly replied to whitewolf001's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Trust me when I say you want the classic cast, especially when sizing the 300 brass. Also, I made up a list for about $200 that has pretty much everything to start reloading. If you want I can post it. When I started I bought the Challenger kit and although it works it isn't worth what they are asking. Everything, including the press, in that kit is cheap. -
I do it all the time and so far have had one get pulled because of my flag being the one.

He is not the victim and he has probably had people make excuses for him all his life. What is really sad is the veterans who were questioning him were arrested for disorderly conduct.

I do too, at the dentist now. Not going to be a good week.

So Gus got in touch with his feminine side today at the pet store, hopefully we have not scarred him for life.

That is not the dog's fault. It is the owner's fault for not socializing the dog and then not monitoring the dog. Very rarely does a dog just become aggressive without warning. There are almost always warning signs and if the owner didn't take those warnings seriously then it is their fault, not the dog's.

FPS Russia is not from Russia. He is actually Kyle Myers from Georgia, the US state and not the Russia one. I would be willing to be the has never been to Russia.
