Well there are a few things to take into consideration. First, are you going to be shooting any subsonic ammunition? If so I would suggest finding a barrel with a pistol length gas system, not a carbine length gas system. The reason is carbine length gas systems tend to be problematic with subsonic ammunition unless you have a suppressor. Second, are you going to suppress it. If so you can go with a carbine length gas system but you might have problems with subsonic ammunition without a suppressor. Pistol length gas systems tend to be a lot more reliable, especially under less than ideal conditions or using low powered ammo, than carbine length gas systems. With a pistol length gas system you can artificially lengthen the gas system but you cannot artificially shorten a carbine length gas system. Personally I would get a pistol length gas system and then run an adjustable gas block. That gives you the best of all worlds.

How often do you carry?
Dolomite_supafly replied to 10-Ring's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
For years my brother "borrowed" money. He swore he would pay it back but never did. Honestly I knew he couldn't but I was doing much better than him so I didn't mind helping him out. Every week or two he would hit me or my wife up for money. Towards the end he would even flaunt it by telling us he had a date with "Crystal". I found out later from a mutual friend it ws his way of flaunting the fact he was using the money to buy drugs. At the same time my mother would borrow money that I later found out would go to my brother. When I found out I cut them both off as far as getting cash. I told them I would buy them what they needed but I would never hand them cash again. My mother and brother quit talking to me then in October of 2009 he grabbed an AK, assaulted our mother on his way out of her house then headed to my house, which is about 300 yards away, to kill my family and me. Luckily LE scared him into the woods before he actually got to my house. We had the SWAT team in a creek in front of our house watching it until he was caught a few hours later. My brother refused to drop the gun but the officers tackled him rather than shoot him. In the end all my brother's charges were dropped by our screwed up courts in our county. Because he is on social security for mental issues they sent him for a mental eval and he was released a week after he assaulted our mother, tried to kill us and then had a standoff with officers. Since then he has been in all kinds of trouble for assaulting our mother and father. He also tried to kill us in 2003-2004 too but I did not find out about that until a few years later. He had grabbed a gun with intentions of killing my family and I then but officers responded and wrestled it away then took him for a mental evaluation. I do remember the time he was in for an evaluation but never knew why until later. Before he tried to kill us he even bragged about how he was going to kill us but LE said they could not do anything unless he acted. Our county clerk said it was a civil matter and I needed to sue him for slander. I called her and idiot and walked out of the court house. Even today I hear from random friends of his that my brother is telling people he is going to kill us. I have been shot at a lot but the day I thought I was going to have to kill my brother was the scariest day in my life. Luckily the sheriff's office called and gave us a warning that he was on his way. Then after everything was said and done my mother asked me if it was worth it. She said if I would have just kept giving them money he wouldn't have tried to kill us. So in the end my mother, father and brother tell people their problems, including my brother's drug use, was our fault for not giving them any more money. There is a LONG history between my family and I. Basically they are all liars, thieves, drug users, drunks and mentally unstable. They have done stuff that would make most people say WTF. There are members here who have seen first hand what kind of screwed up family I have. -
Parking spot for prom night in Murfreesboro?

I cannot imagine any girl's father being OK with this and if they are then they have issues themselves. I bet it isn't ok if the boy drove up to the house and told the girl's father "I am taking your daughter to a secluded place for some alone time" but now it is ok because the boy isn't the one driving? Curious, who is renting the limo? The boy or the girl? I know if I had a girl and anyone mentioned taking her for some "alone time" I would probably loose it. -

How often do you carry?
Dolomite_supafly replied to 10-Ring's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have been without a gun on me no more that 10 days since 2008. If I am leaving my property I ALWAYS have at least one gun on my person and another close by. Walking to the mailbox I sometimes have a gun with me but not always. Sitting in the house I ALWAYS have a gun close by as well. Was never really that worried about having guns close by in the house until someone tried to kill my wife and I in 2009. Now I can probably lay down a minute or two of return fire if need be. -

How I looked like a fool laser bore sighting my AR
Dolomite_supafly replied to Tobashadow's topic in Long Guns
Be aware that some optical coatings actually keep you from seeing the dot. I have a Millet red dot that I cannot see my green laser through. I suspect a red dot might also be affected. -
Something I have been trying to find again is a link to an lens that actually clears up the near and the far at the same time. I cannot remember the name but it had tons of positive experiences and was geared towards competition long range open sight shooters. I think it mounted to the glasses and acted like a Fresnel lens with two separate focal lengths on the same lens.

Worn out AR-15 bolt carrier or ?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Luke E.'s topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Running them dry will not cause this problem. Running dry might eventually cause other problems but not picking up a round out of the magazine is not a lube issue. Can you post pictures of the bolt, not the carrier? Specifically a 3/4 frontal shot and maybe an overall shot. -
I ran 4 grains of Clays loaded to magazine length.

I have talked to a few after they left. The biggest reason was the feel of the board had changed.

Adding a GC can improve accuracy with some bullets. Other than that there generally is not a need to GC if you powder coat. -

You can go on ebay and buy 1 inch inserts for 30mm scope rings. They are normally less than $10. I try to buy 30mm rings with the inserts because they will work with most scopes out there.

This is NOT a video of snipers in Afghanistan despite what the email said. It is a guy who is hunting rock chucks with a 7mm Ultra mag. This video has been around forever and was debunked pretty early on. It is actually a excerpt from one of this guy's DVDs. http://www.rmvh.com/Scenes.htm

Bumping this up so those who might have missed it can see. I will post how and where to buy it in a week or so. And just to reiterate I get nothing when someone purchases a mold. The only thing I get is the ability to buy the mold myself. I requires 15 orders for production to begin and then it is a pretty short timeframe. -
Knoxville Police Department Generally speaking special teams are allowed to carry what they want as long as they qualify with the firearm.

Supersonic 300 Blackout bullet I designed
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Ok, I figured out the OD for the loaded bullet at the internal magazine rib. First lets look at the dimensions of the 223. On a 223 the rib rides between 1.55" and 1.75" and it has an OD of ~.253". I split the difference and measured at 1.65" from the base for the new bullet design and the OD of the bullet at 1.65" is ~.18" when loaded to an OAL of 2.04". That is assuming the case length is 1.36" and the bullet it loaded flush with the top driving band. So the rib will not cause any interference problems. Even if you loaded the bullet extremely long it would probably not interfere with the internal rib of the magazine. -
Form 4 date break down
Dolomite_supafly replied to 173rdABN's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Hope you didn't submit a Form 1. A premade can, like the SDN-6, should be on a Form 4 and a home made can is on a Form 1. I had some errors back in November and got my approved forms In March. My total time, including errors, was 344 days. I mailed them as an individual.
