  1. I bet that would put a hurting on anything it hits. And you can probably load it backwards for a monsterously sized hollow point. There is a similar bullet that is touted as a safety bullet. It has a hllow point from tip to tail and breaks up upon contact with anything. I seen it on CB a while back.   On a side note I am going to start testing bullet performance in the next week or two. I picked up about 20 pounds of a material that will act like ballistic gelatin. Although it probably will not similate flesh as far as penetration it should give a good indication of how the bullet will perform. And with close to 20 pounds I should be able to shoot it with moderate rifle rounds as well. I cannot wait to test some of my cast flat point loads. Best part is it is reuseable as long as I do nto contaminate it with other materials.
  2. Neither did I.
  3. I will be there tomorrow around noon. Going to grab some powder and maybe a few toys.
  4. Vouch for your friend when he lists stuff. The reason why we insist on you owning the item and having it in your possession is it prevents problems that have arose in the past. You list the item then someone says they will take it but when you go to get the item the owner has already sold it or decides to keep it. Now you are the one loosing reputation. It is also cheating a system that works very well to keep scammers at bay.
  5. Go buy a youth stock. Much easier and you will probably end up buying another stock anyways when you can get a but toad to fit correctly.
  6. I cast and shoot my with Blackout for 4.4 cents a shot for subsonic and 7.3 cents a shot for supersonic. 30 caliber is a lot easier to cast for than 22. Might be a little more because prices on primers have went up since I did these calculations but it is still really cheap.
  7. You can also use the same stock for installing a collapsible AR stock on the shotgun but use a pistol buffer tube or remove the tube completely. A Knox recoil reducing stock with the stock removed would probably work well also. And any muzzle device must be permanently attached to be included in overall length measurements.   But you must be absolutely, 100% positive that the shotgun left the factory without a shoulder stock installed. The ONLY way to ensure that is to buy brand new. If you buy used and it was a "shotgun" originally from the factory and you have a barrel less than 18", regardless of overall length, you are in possession of a illegal SBS unless registered.   This was all hashed out by Len Savage with several letters written to the ATF. Here are the letters: http://www.nfaoa.org/documents/PistolGrippedShotgunLike.pdf http://www.nfaoa.org/documents/testttt20001.pdf The second link actually has the picture of an "shotgun" with a barrel of less than 17" that the ATF said was NOT an NFA item. That is unless it was hidden on your person. The ATF have a long standing rule that if a "firearm" is concealed on your person it becomes an AOW. So although it is legal it is also illegal to conceal it on your person without being registered as an AOW.   The shoulder stock is what defines a "shotgun". To be classified as a "shotgun" it must have left the factory with a shoulder stock, if not then it does not meet the definition of a "shotgun". And because it doesn't meet the definitions for a shotgun, rifle or a handgun the default definition is "firearm". And the only requirement for a gun that meets the definition of "firearm" is it must be at least 26" long. And you can also add a vertical fore grip when it is a "firearm" as well.   And with the SIG brace being so popular it also begs the question that if you add it to a "firearm" (shotgun) that has a pistol buffer tube does it change its status from "firearm" to something else. I will not comment on that subject for legal reasons but I have my ideas. Anyone else want to write that letter? How cool would it be to have a 12 gauge "firearm" with a 14" barrel and a Sig brace. Definitely something that would be fun but without a letter from the ATF I would be afraid LE would go crazy when they seen it.
  8. If you want I can talk you through the process, just give me a call. Pretty sure you already have my number but if not just send me a PM. It is an easy but can be time consuming to get everything together. Not sure if you are aware of this but if you take a gun that originally came with a pistol grip you can put any barrel length on it as long as it is at least 26" overall length and does not have a shoulder stock. You cannot do it with a shotgun that originally came with a shoulder stock. By the way, this is a LEGAL shotgun that does not require any sort of NFA registration. The reason is because it started life without a shoulder stock and is at least 26" overall length. BTW, that is a 14.5" barrel. But once you attach a shoulder stock the classification changes and it becomes a shotgun and with a 14.5" barrel you are in violation of the law unless registered.
  9. It is your rating as rated by other members.
  10. Yeah, it can get really confusing.
  11. I used to merge threads every chance I could but as David said people would just start a new thread. I would merge two threads then the OP from a merged thread would ask why his thread disappeared and start another thread on the same topic. And it begins to look like we are editing or censoring what people are saying. Yes we can leave a place holder for the merged thread but if you are doing that you may as well leave the original thread.
  12. In 2006 I bought my wife a Cub Cadet and other than replacing a drive belt and blades nothing else has required work. Our yard is not flat or smooth and she runs up and down a serious grade in the full summer heat without issue. We checked and we have 200 hours on the motor now and it runs just as good today as the day we bought it.
  13. So you were shooting ~1" at 100 yards and ~4" at 200 yards? MOA is an angle of measurement and 1 MOA gets bigger the father you go out.. 1 MOA at 200 yards is going to be ~2". 2 MOA at 200 yards is going to be ~4".   Ammo can make a huge difference in accuracy. It might be your first bit of ammo is ammo your rifle liked and the second one your rifle hated. I have yet to find a gun that will shoot all ammo with the same level of accuracy, you MUST find an ammo that your rifle likes. Your twist has zero to do with whether it can shoot 62 grain bullets well, it is the shooter or ammo or barrel but definitely not the twist.   If you were shooting off a bipod, quit. Bipods can cause all kinds of weird things to happen especially if you are shooting off a hard surface. Get a backpack, pillow or a shooting bag to shoot off of.   Here is the deal with cheap scopes. They generally work fine as long as you do not do a lot of dialing on them. That is if you zero and leave them they generally do pretty well but when you start making adjustments things go to hell pretty quickly. I have the same exact scope and it rarely returns to zero, yes it gets close but it is still off. Then after a few shots it settles back down where it should be. So if you are turning the knobs at all while trying to shoot groups you are chasing your tail. There are tons of decent scopes out there for not a lot of money.   And finally, unless you have a decent trigger it is going to limit you as well. If there is a single thing I can say affects a guns accuracy it is the quality of the trigger. If you are still running a milspec trigger that can cause accuracy issues. It doesn't take a lot of money to get a better trigger either. You can find 2 stage triggers on the used market for $75 or new for a little over $100.
  14. This is why I do not loke the set screw versions and prefer the clamp on types. I have seen several of the setscrew types work loose and this is especially so with barrels that do not have dimples.   One more thing is if the barrel had standard handguards originally then the handguard cap thickness needs to be taken into account. It normally runs .040" thick so if you but the gas block up against the shoulder without taking that into account then you will likely block a portion of your gas port.   I would also check the end of the gas tube that goes into the carrier. It can wear over time and this can reduce the seal.   My bet is the gas block worked loose and moved.
  15. And if you have any questions you are more than welcome to give me a call anytime.
  16. If they could drop the billet on multiple rounds causing them all to go off they would have a machine gun.
  17. The biggest reason I carry is I have a relative that has tried to kill me in the past. This is also why I as have a gun close by at all times. And that is what I tell anyone who asks and I have had people ask. I do not carry to protect others but I might depending on the circumstances.
  18. I went in there to buy some tires for my wife's Cub Cadet. I told them the size and what tire type. He asked if it was for a John Deer and I said no. The person then told me he could help me even though it looked like they had the tires I was wanting.
  19.   It is NOT a crack. A blemish is not going to make it last any shorter.
  20. DO NOT BUY LEE. Not every Lee set has a problem but it seems about 1 in 10 do have problems.   If you buy RCBS Small base dies you will never have an issue. If you plan on shooting cast call RCBS and ask for an expander ball for a 7.62x39. It gives you a few extra thousandths to keep your brass from sizing your cast bullets down.   I use the Harbor Freight mini chop saw and this: http://www.300blktalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=80842 You can get it set so you do not have to trim although trimming is not a bad idea.   For trimming I made a trimmer using a 7.62x39 Lee trimmer before there were any trimmer available. These days I use a trimmer similar to the WFT.   Remember, chop first then size then trim.

    .22 1911

Do you laready own a 1911? If so look at one of the Kimber Conversions. They can be had for under $250 and are extremely accurate.
  22. Yeah, well, probably not that great of a deal then.   That is going to lead to a lot of confusion.
  23. This is the deal of the year, Colt Competition for $700. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/colt-competition-sporting-rifle-5-56nato-16-barrel-csr-1516.html
