Another easily made explosive is TATP. It is also EXTREMELY detonation sensitive. There are plenty of cases of it being detonated from walking across the dust on the floor. I personally would never think about trying to make it but the ingredients are found in almost any store.

Latest Class III: Guesses on Wait Time
Dolomite_supafly replied to Semiauto's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
On my error forms it said I was region 8 so I am assuming the examiners are by state. The forms were issued to the next examiner in line a long time ago but there were concerns over examiners knowing state laws so they assigned examiners to certain states. Now things might have changed back but as of December/January I was in region 8. -
So who has eFiled a Form 1?

When approved through the eFile system do you receive an email in your registering account or do you have to log in and check? -
TC Contender Barrel Nuts
Dolomite_supafly replied to Sidewinder's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Recently? Because that have done exactly squat for me and my requests. Last year I called and was told to send an email with my request. I sent an email and the first response was a canned response saying it will take some time to respond. The next email, over a month later, was asking if I was satisfied with their response and that the case was now closed. Nothing in between the two emails. I was asking if the frames I had left the factory as rifles, pistols or frames and provided serial numbers. -
Make sure to keep up with maintenance because the metal parts do not fair as well as polymer in humid environments like IWB.

TC Contender Barrel Nuts

Good luck. If you find them for sale locally I would buy a lottery ticket because I have NEVER seen them sitting on the shelf of a gun store. Ebay has 2 of them for $16.50 shipped. Less than $20 for something you might spend years searching for is pretty cheap. -
Maybe his "home made M-80's" had steel casings. Or maybe he was making them for sale because it is illegal to use explosives to make money without a manufacturing license. Also, if a person is in possession of a certain amount of black powder it must be stored IAW ATF regulations. As long as any explosive is not designed or used in an offensive manner it is legal.

The problem is additional cost of buying commercially available targets. Commercially sold "tannerite" is ~$5 a pound while the components to make your own is well under $1 per pound. Last time I bought some AN, which was about 4 years ago, it cost me $17 for 50 pounds. The aluminum powder is $5 per pound. So for $12 you can make 20 pounds of exploding targets. That same 20 pounds is $170 through a popular retailer. Another HUGE problem I have is the unnecessary regulation of things that should not be regulated at all. If I can legally own the firearm to shoot the exploding target then the target itself should not be a problem. No matter how heavily they regulate it, or how illegal they make it, as long as it is used as fertilizer it can get into the hands of those who are going to do harm using it. It is perfectly legal to make your own explosives, regardless of what the ingredients are, so until it is proven that I should not be allowed to buy it then I should be allowed to buy what I want and in whatever amount I can afford. I am tired of legislators, and lawmakers, deciding the best way to protect myself from myself. These are the same people who tell me what I can't have yet demand that they are allowed to have the same items I can't. There are all kinds of things that are regulated that should not be in any way shape or form. I should be allowed to ingest anything I want in my own home yet those who control us only allow us to have the freedoms they give us permission to have. Our freedoms are being taken away daily in the name of protecting people from themselves and this is just another instance of taking yet another freedom from a law abiding citizen. BTW, if they made the sale of AN illegal to the general public the criminals intent on using it will still be able to steal it or obtain it legally with a few, easy to obtain, licenses. I would like to hear about the last time "Tannerite" type of explosives were used in the commission of a crime. I am not talking about those who were arrested for exploding a target deemed "too large" by LE either.

There are some sellers calling their stuff AN but it is not. I have found packaged fertilizer that says AN on the main label but the actual ingredient is urea.

Yeah, but that picture of a 4' "rod" is a little too small for me to get excited. -
How I Dislodged a Stuck Bullet
Dolomite_supafly replied to Clod Stomper's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I have stuck a lot of bullets in the bore during my experiments trying to shoot HEAVY bullets using the 7.62x25. A single bullet is easy to remove and if often no more difficult to push out than a really, really tight patch. I will say that having several stuff in the bore at the same time is a lot more difficult. I was working with a blowback AR chambered in 7.62x25. It ran factory surplus great. Well one day I decided to try shooting some subsonic loads out of it. Stupid me, I did not confirm hits on target until after the third shot and then I had a sinking feeling when my target was pristine. I tried to just knock them out but because there were three there was no way I was going to push them out. So I took a long drill bit and drilled one of the bullets. Then I epoxied a sheet metal screw to a cleaning rod. I screwed the cleaning rod, with screw, into the bullet with the hole in it. I used a hammer to pull that one bullet out. Then I repeated it two more times. Surprisingly there was no damage to the bore. Not a scratch and, more importantly, not a bulge. The barrel even turned out to be a MOA shooter after the "incident". -
I always mixed mine 95/5 and it was 100% reliable. I would say as long as it is close it will work. If you have too much aluminum then you will have some aluminum that will not ignite. Too much AN and you will have some AN that will not ignite. The AL is the fuel and the AN is the oxygen to burn the fuel. I will say that David's uses AN in powder form and mine was in prill form, perhaps that has an effect on ratios. And I will say that using AN as a powder results in a much more powerful boom. I have used home made prill mixture for a long time. I always put 1/2 pound charges against AR 500 plates. When ignited nothing happened. I did the same using David's powdered AN and it bent the AR 500 plate at 90 degrees using the same charge. So I would suggest grinding the AN up using a blender or something else but DO NOT do it after the aluminum has been added otherwise it WILL explode and KILL you. What micron is your aluminum? Mine floats in the air like smoke and I use a mask when dealing with it. Using ammonium nitrate results in the mixture that requires rifle calibers to ignite. 22's, pistol calibers and slower rifle calibers will not ignite the AN/AL mixture. To make some that can be ignited by pistols and 22 it requires the use of ammonium perchlorate which is a little harder to find but it is not regulated like AN is. AP can be bought online from most DIY fireworks places because I believe it is used to make flash powder. Here is a pretty good write up on amounts. http://www.tngun.com/homemade-tannerite-clone-from-cold-packs/ Would you be interested in selling 5-10 pounds of aluminum powder? Anyone know of any places in the Knoxville area that sells the 34-0-0 AN without having to justify the need or provide ID. I would like to pick up a bag or two. I am not going to do anything illegal and honestly would not mind showing my ID but would prefer not to be added to another list.

I have searched and I have narrowed the choices down to these two and they are significantly different. I am thinking I am going to go with the ACE for ease of opening and closing but I also worry about wobbles. I know the Stormwerks will probably never wobble but I also worry about how hard it will be for me to open based on an another folder I had on my Saiga 12. I am not sure what I hate worse, wobbling or hard opening hinges. It will be installed on my M85. I am expecting my Form 1 to be approved in the next 2-3 weeks based on others in my area. BTW, I am going to use a RPB Industries polymer "Krinkov" stock. I am going to cut it off where it slides into the rear of the receiver. And once I clean up the looks I will drill the front of it and install some 10-32 threaded inserts using two part epoxy. I will then drill and attach a metal plate to the stock then attach the stock, with metal plate, to the hinge itself. I am always looking for a way to keep guns lighter and I think this will work great with the polymer RPB stock. Here is a picture of the RPB Industries non folding "Krinkov" stock: Picture from here:http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116394 And as always, I will post pictures as I build it like I did when I made a rear peep sight and installed a front night sight on my M85. The setup will look similar to this except with the RPB polymer "Krinkov" stock: That is NOT my picture but is a good representation of what I plan on doing. The picture came from here and has plenty of other pictures: ak side folders - AR15.Com Archive

95% ammonium nitrate to 5% aluminum dust by weight. The ammonium nitrate must be the 34-0-0 to work and most places that do sell fertilizer no longer carry it. Nothing else, that I have found, will work with the aluminum powder. Good luck finding ammonium nitrate. Most places want you to have a reason for having it, like a farm. And I have yet to find a place that does not want to get a copy of your DL to add you to the list they give to DHS quarterly. It is perfectly legal to manufacture your own explosives but you must follow a few basic rules. It must be consumed at the time it is made, no making it ahead of time. And the explosive must not be used to make money. It cannot be transported on public roads once made. It cannot be stored once made. If you violate any of those rules then you MUST have the proper licensing. But mixing up your own explosive is perfectly legal.

If her owners actually gave a crap she would not be running free waiting to get hit and die a miserable death. If you can't keep her then try to find her a loving home. Plenty of pitbull rescues around that would eb willing to help. Do not take her to any animal center because the vast majority do not try to adopt out pitbulls, even if they are perfect dogs, and often euthanize then as soon as possible. You will be surprised at how loving and loyal these dogs are.

WD-40 works wonders for cleaning firing pin channels. It is all I use anymore to get a gun back running. If the WD-40 trick doesn't fix it then it is time to take the gun apart and clean it.

Witnessed a .22LR miracle today

And because you passed on them the 22 Gods will repay you three fold. Then again you will likely have to pay three fold the next time you see some. -
Not really, they would be the same cost as a regular semi auto AR plus about $25 in extra parts. Colts, today, would still run $1,000+ if they could be purchased new as a full auto by civilians. Still, I would gladly give $1,000 for a full auto, of any kind, right now.

All of the "current" eFile submissions are under 45 days. Sandra Snook seems to be smoking fast so I hope that is who has mine and not Dana Pickles. Dana had the reputation of being the slowest of all examiners a few years ago. -
Nothing wrong with seating them a little deeper. Just start out load development at the bottom. Powder coated, and probably these, run much cleaner than jacketed or plated bullets.

At one point I was talking with POST certified friends about starting a business to contract certified LE out to various jurisdictions. Basically a jurisdiction which is in need of additional certified officers, and does not have time to go through the hiring process, would hire the contracted officers on a short term basis. When the need is no longer there the contract officers leave without the usual fuss involved with letting officers go. All contract officers would be up to date on all certifications and would be hired, then bonded, but the jurisdiction. It never really got beyond a discussion so we never really looked into the viability. The thought of this came out of the fact jurisdictions have officers from other jurisdictions help them out form time to time. Or they have the constables or THP come in to help out. Using contracted LE would keep officers in their home jurisdictions.

So who has eFiled a Form 1?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Make sure anything approved and in the trust is added to the Schedule A. I have been told by a few people the only thing the ATF needs is the Trust document but adding the Schedule A to the submission will not hurt. -
I would not worry about it. I am sure the PAP's are test fired before leaving the factory and any SKS that had headspace issues would probably have been scrapped when they were $59.

I also submitted the "assignment sheet" which is like a bill of sale that moves the item into the trust. The attorney said it was needed but it may not have been.
