  1. It sure does meet the definition of a firearm but the feds do not regulate it. The definition of a firearm would cover an old flintlock musket from the revolutionary war.   Now the fed does not regulate "antique" firearms but they are still firearms none the less.
  2. I will err on the side of caution until the letter comes back from the ATF. There is a letter that has been written, not by me, that asks the M92 is considered a "pistol" or if it is considered a "firearm". The way it is written the writer is looking for the M92 to be classified as a "firearm". And if it comes back saying it is a "firearm" a VFG would be perfectly legal as long as the OAL is 26" or more.   I would like to see where it says that the item on the back is required for the operation of the gun. Only thing I can find is that is it not easily removed and in my case it is no more easily removed than a regular buffer tube.   I will likely give the ATF a call again tomorrow to ask specifically about if a buffer tube on the back of a AK counts towards OAL.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnFJczptc9k&list=UUuNlFO9S3WQJm4yg2aTA2Lg   One thing I definitely will be adding is a stock saddle to the buffer tube.
  3. The M92 is a HEAVY weapon. I have the 223 version and with a 30 round magazine of lighter 223 it still weighs 9 pounds. The M92 also has a 10" barrel while the Mini Draco is 7.5" so it depends on what you want to do with it but for me the M92 was not a viable choice for my plans so I sold it within days to buy the Mini Draco. I think the Draco will fill the roll of truck gun better than the M92.   That thing is looking great Plank, can't wait to get mine and start work on mine. The Orings from MC should be here tomorrow. I am also removing the flash hider and replacing it with a slant or maybe I will just square it off to make it even shorter. I have my Stormwerkz hinge on the way as well as an extended buffer tube to get me to 26" so I can use a VFG. For a grip I am using a Hogue rubber finger groove grip.   The only thing I have not figured out yet is how I am going to mount a Fast Fire.
  4. Not for gun parts.
  5. I have shipped guns from UPS and never had an issue. If I am shipping parts, or even receivers, and they ask what is inside I always say "nothing dangerous". That seems to satisfy them.   What I would do is call the store today and ask for a manager. When the store manager gets on the phone ask for his boss. Be adamant about it and then call that guy/girl and explain to them what happened. Hopefully the clerk who was quaking in her boots over some gun parts will get some one on one time with her boss. Better yet when the manager's boss calls be on the phone with him/her when you walk back into the store. I can tell you nothing is more satisfying than going back into a place and having the person that refused before be the one to help you.
  6.   Just giving him a friendly reminder that gun safety should be a top priority no matter who you are or what skill level you have. It may have happened somewhere else but it has happened here. Matter of fact within the last 3 years a member here posted about shooting a hole in his truck as he was either putting away or getting out the gun. And if I remember correctly he was someone who seemed like he had his head screwed on straight.
  7.   Having a permit exempts you from the background check. Without a permit you can still buy a firearm but you must go through a background check.
  8. Up until the paper form is approved you can cancel. If you are filing a Form 1 you can even cancel after approval as long as the item has not been made. So you could file your Form 4 through the mail and if the eFile system comes up write a letter and cancel your paper application then eFile. Only issue is I have no clue how long it takes to get a refund on paper applications.   The eFile system for Form 1's is amazingly fast. The last one I did took 20 days. That brings it into the realm of impulse buys.
  9. He wasn't even born here, "F" him.   Ask GJohnson how many guns were around Mark Wahlberg, who condemns guns, this weekend in Knoxville. He even said the security team pointed their guns at him when he attempted to get up. I don't care who you are if you point a gun at me we are going to have HUGE issues. Good thing I didn't go to the MoH ceremonies because had someone pointed a gun at me it would have made national news.
  10. Here is a much cheaper version of the KX3/Krinkov brake.   http://www.cobratacsystems.com/collections/muzzle-brake-devices/products/ar-223-banshee-can-muzzle-brake-pressure-reducer-1-2x28-pitch-thread
  11.   Perfectly legal.   The gun in the picture is NOT a "pistol". It IS a "firearm" and the only restriction on a "firearm" is it must be at least 26" overall. And although it is illegal to put a VFG on a "pistol" it is perfectly legal on a "firearm".
  12. http://shockwavetechnologies.com/site/?p=1724 I am not so sure it will be approved. It is basically a sling wrapped around your forearm and buttstock. I will say it is much better looking as well as lighter and thinner than the Sig Brace. Got to love competition. Maker is hoping to have it priced at under $55.
  13. Believe it or not but they actually made some with 304 AMC motors with 4 speeds. They even made electric versions.   And if your power goes out you can use it as a solar oven.
  14.   That's a fact.   I guess I should have broken it down a more to expound on the parts that are considered firearms and which are not. Sometimes I assume, yeah I know, everyone is aware of what parts of a firearm are the regulated parts and which are not.
  15. Yeah, makes it almost worth it. But the saving on the stock will quickly be eaten up in additional ammunition costs. :)
  16. Did you get yours yet?   I am about to order mine. Only thing that worries me is canted rear sight or canted gas block. gas block is an easy fix but the rear sight would be a problem. There is one, that I have found, that was supposedly keyholing. I think it was that specific gun because I cannot find a single other instance of the problem.   If you ever get to the Knoxville area you need to shoot my M85. It is a sweet little gun that I absolutely love. If they made the same gun with an 8" barrel I would buy it in a heartbeat. These extra 2"-3" of the M92/M85 keep me from using it as a backpack gun.   As soon as I am sure mine is good to goo it will get submitted for a stock. For a stock I will be using an AR style with a folding stock mechanism. Still trying to figure out which hinge. My $90 ACE pushbutton folder is pretty wobbly now so I will never get another ACE product. Stormwerkz gets a lot of positive reviews but it also is pretty soft according to some which means hard use might be out of the question. I really wish someone would make a steel hinge like the Stormwerkz. I will also be adding a rail to the front to add a VFG so I don't accidentally get my hand out in front of the muzzle.
  17. Getting ready to buy one and just wanting to see if there is any reason NOT to get one.   Mine will be a truck gun after I SBR it, seems like the perfect covert truck gun as well as the perfect gun to toss in a backpack.
  18. And they have already rescinded it. He has been notified if he builds it he will be in violation of the law.   But there are lawyers all over this.   I will probably submit because those in the know are saying that those that have submitted between now and when the law is amended will be approved. But once the law has been amended it will no longer be possible.   BTW, this is only a form 1 trust submission.
  19.   If he is doing it as a friend it will likely never make it onto the radar of the ATF. Those that are doing it for profit do a lot more than one or two friends. But generally if a person is accepting a firearm for repair and the gun is left overnight without the gun's owner present a FFL is required. If he is doing a lot of other people's guns too I would NEVER leave my gun there, even if we are friends, because you never know when the ATF will come asking why he doesn't have an FFL. No problem with him doing any work with you present.   There is some gray area because the USC mentions "for profit" so if the person doing the work isn't making a profit then it doesn't need a FFL. I personally do not believe that will keep you out of hot water.   BTW, the ATF is very specific about licensing requirements for those that refinish a firearm: https://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/gunsmiths.html

  22. Something else you may not have considered is welding on the castle nut itself but that would preclude you from using a decent hinge.   One thing I do like about the Draco is the back of the receiver is square. The PAP pistols have a receiver that has an angle at the back. It requires a custom spacer. I was able to sort my M85 out but the need for an angled spacer is why I an installing and under folding stock on the M92.
  23. A firearm can be shipped to an FFL for "repair" and when completed it will be shipped directly to you without the need for going through an FFL. How you ship depends on what kind of firearm it is. A long gun can be shipped using the Postal Service. A pistol cannot be shipped using the Postal Service unless the shipper has an FFL. You can ship a handgun using FedEx or UPS but you are supposed to follow their TOS.   Before sending your firearms to ANYONE for work ask for a copy of their FFL and send it to the address on the FFL. If someone cannot, or does not, want to send you their FFL avoid them like the plague. There are a lot of garage gunsmiths out there doing coating work because it is easy to do. A lot of them do not know, or do not want, an FFL even though it is a legal requirement to do any type of work for a customer. A person can make on the spot corrections, with the gun owner present, without an FFL but if the firearm is to be left then an FFL is required.   So what can happen if you send your gun to someone without an FFL? The ATF shows up and they are making their rounds to these refinishers without FFLs. Best case scenario is the refinisher gets a visit from a decent ATF agent the agent will help the refinisher fill out the appropriate forms to get an FFL and give him a warning. Worse case scenario is you get a an agent that seizes all firearms on the premises and the ATF holds them as evidence until the court case is done. And because the government works slowly this would likely take years. So you being the innocent party you would be without your firearm for years and even then I can guarantee you would have to jump through hoops to get the firearm back.   Again make sure you have an FFL in hand before sending your gun off.
