Some researchers did mathematical modeling regarding a hypothetical zombie attack. Some of the disturbing findings of the study: "An outbreak of zombies infecting humans is likely to be disastrous, unless extremely aggressive tactics are employed against the undead. While aggressive quarantine may eradicate the infection, this is unlikely to happen in practice. A cure would only result in some humans surviving the outbreak, although they will still coexist with zombies. Only sufficiently frequent attacks, with increasing force, will result in eradication, assuming the available resources can be mustered in time." I have a stainless Taurus PT 1911AR. I like it and I haven't had any problems with it. I have probably put 500 rounds through it. Only gripes I have had are the massive rollmarks on the side, the locking mechanism on the hammer, and I changed the factory grips. I have read good reviews and bad reviews. Biggest complaints have been on the finish of the blued versions and some gripes about the quality of the ambi safety. One thing is clear: when a Taurus has a malfunction people say the gun is "junk." When a Kimber malfunctions - which they do - it's because it needs to be "broken in more" or "adjusted." That is too cool! I would love to have a piece of history like that in my family. I used to work at a gun shop and folks would occasionally bring in firearms that had been war trophies or carried in combat and passed down. The recipients didn't appreciate the history or the connection to their family's past. I always cringed when that would happen. I get the same feeling when I see stuff like that sold on Pawn Stars.

That reminds me of a couple of stories from my time on the streets. One night dispatch called me on my cell and asked me to stop by Dunkin Donuts to pick them up some late night munchies. No sooner than I got in the drive-thru, I hear someone honking a horn and see a couple of college kids pointing and laughing. Then there was the night in my old town when two cops crashed their patrol cars on the way to the donut shop: It's Really Not Funny: Cops Crash At Doughnut Shop - Orlando Sentinel And finally, there was a small department that was adjacent to our city and they got a new chief that was a bit eccentric to say the least. He implemented a plan where he would park a patrol car along the main highway running through his jurisdiction and had a female manikin in a uniform sitting in the driver seat. Clever, but when the car didn't move, ever, for days and days, it lost its effectiveness. It also caused a couple of wrecks. Our plan? Take an empty Krispy Kreme donut box and put it on the hood of the patrol car using a magnet to keep it from blowing away.

I'm curious to see what folks think about the Wikileaks issue. I can see both sides of it. If the documents expose corruption, malfeasance, and incompetency with our political and military leaders, then all the better. It's obvious from the reports I have seen on Drudge that we have been sleeping with the enemy (Pakistan & Saudi Arabia), and ignoring serious threats from Iran and North Korea. On the other hand, if the documents place soldiers and other government officials at risk of harm, then I have a major problem with it. I'm not worried about the documents damaging our reputation; we are playing the same games as everyone else and most of the world hates us anyhow. Before people start the debate, keep in mind a couple of things: 1) Wikileaks is not a US based organization. It's organized, funded, and hosted internationally. 2) The Wikileaks founder and employees are not American citizens. I say this because I see posts on the web calling this a form of treason and calling for US criminal charges. The US government has no control over or recourse with an international group or foreign citizen acting on foreign soil. The way I see it is the US has two options here: 1) Block the site here in the US, much like China does with sites they don't like. 2) Figure out how the heck to protect their sensitive documents. This isn't the first time classified documents have been leaked. Now, discuss.

My thought is that there is no valid reason that I would need to broadcast my serial numbers to the entire viewing public, just as I don't need to broadcast my driver's license number, my e-mail address, or my phone number. Could some dirtbag make up a false bill of sale using that serial number and claim I stole his gun? Yes. Is it likely? No, but neither is needing a gun for self-defense or identity theft. Doesn't mean I don't want to take any unnecessary chances.

REALLY?!?!? Are you really trying to prove your case by insulting the career of someone who is speaking their honest opinion? Where the heck do you get off pulling that crap? You, sir, have proven to me that you are little more than an arrogant jerk who can't handle not getting his way. I'll be very sure to pass along this info to all of my friends and fellow gun enthusiasts. In case you haven't figured this out yet smart guy, we customers are the ones that keep you in business, and we have every right to gripe and complain. Throwing your weight around by popping off at people you don't even know just because you don't like what they have to say isn't professional by any stretch of the imagination. If you had spent a little time around the forums instead of making your initial posts a collection of rants and insults, you would see that most of the folks here talk regularly about how they are happy to spend a little extra to support their local gun shops. You jumped into this with both feet, stirred up the hornet's nest, got your butt handed to you, and instead of apologizing and bowing out gracefully, you just toss out some more insults. Way to go there hot shot.

Welcome to the world of business. If you can't handle criticism from the public, it seems you are in the wrong business. This started out as a thread complaining about Gunny's, positive comments were made about Frontier, you jumped in and bashed all of us. That tells me a lot. I was one of those customers. I have bought firearms, ammo, and accessories from your store. I was virtually always treated extremely well by your employees. But I don't plan on returning. As one other post noted, you painted with a very broad brush and basically said that anyone who complains is a "tax cheat," "whiner," "know-it-all," or any other number of pejoratives. I've worked in a small gun shop. I have my own small business. Customers are your bread and butter. You can explain your point without being insulting and anytime you are willing to run off any paying customer, including the annoying ones, you are heading down the wrong road.

I just typically use the Lee Reloading manual. The tables put out by Lee incorporate a variety of bullet weights and powder types. Even then, you have to load some up and try them out. Like the others said, no load is 100% in every firearm or application. I have a buddy who does competitive long range rifle shooting and believes 100% in the 'more is better' concept of reloading. He immediately goes to the max load for the .300 Win mag, then adds powder thinking that it will automatically give him better range and ballistics at 1000 yards. Then he shoots a match, gets crappy accuracy, usually breaks his gun, and blows primers/brass. I keep telling him to dial it down because the extra pressure is probably only causing his bullets to tumble in flight, but he won't listen. Lately, he's been getting about 500 rounds through a barrel before he has to replace it.

That link has some excellent info. I was pleased with the Speer Gold Dot performance (I carry it in all of my handguns regardless of caliber). There are piles and piles of sources out there. The question is whether you can access them or not - or if you willing to pay to access the ones you want to use. Also, what do you plan on doing with the paper once it's completed - is it for a class or publication somewhere? John Lott's book is a good starting point. He has also written several peer-reviewed articles that have been published in academic journals. One of the easiest ways to start researching any topic is to use Google Scholar. Just type in your search terms and it will pull up different academic & professional publications. Sometimes they are free full-text versions, but many times it will take you to the journal site where it is available for purchase. If you go to the local college library or public library, they may have paper copies of these journals available for you to use. Most libraries have access to a search resource called Lexis-Nexis. It can search a large number of newspapers and magazines for these types of articles. As far as the NRA material, you can go to their website and search directly through the site. I know that the NRA Institute for Legislative Action has some good articles archived. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me and I can help you out.

Many states have mechanisms for non-violent felons to petition the court to have their rights restored. It makes sense to me that if someone committed a non-violent felony at some point in their life, but have demonstrated that they have not committed any further criminal acts since that time, they should be allowed to own a gun. Being realistic here, most of us have done something in our lives that probably would have been considered a felony if we had gotten caught and criminally charged. When I was in college, I had friends that did all sorts of stupid stuff - like having sex in public places, getting in a drunken bar fight, or writing bad checks. Since then, they matured, graduated from college, got a good job, and live a law-abiding life. Why punish people for their entire lives, especially when they never committed a crime that was specifically a premeditated violent crime? Obviously, there needs to be some sort of minimum time (say 5 or 10 years) and restrictions on the types of felonies that would be a permanent DQ (armed robbery, murder, etc.).

I have a dummy gun I got from Charter for holster making for the Bulldog Pug revolver; it is all stainless steel metal and a one-piece frame. It was made from blemished parts and welded so it couldn't be converted for use, but it's definitely an actual frame, barrel, cylinder, and small parts - all metal. I looked at their website and see their Undercover Lite is a combination of aluminum and steel, but see no mention of plastic. If they are making one with a plastic grip, it wouldn't be a unique thing in pocket revolvers. The Ruger LCR and (I think) the new Smith & Wesson Bodyguard uses polymer grip parts. As far as Charter's quality, the company went through a change in ownership a few years ago and from what I have heard the quality has improved a lot. Would I buy one? Maybe, but I would have to handle an actual specimen to make that decision. I know CCA here in Knoxville sells them and they don't tend to deal in junk guns, so take that for what it's worth.

I used Ballistol once and wasn't tremendously impressed with it, but it wasn't bad stuff either. Another alternative to CLP is Eezox. I have used it several times and like it a lot. The LW Seecamp folks use it exclusively. It's great for carry guns because the carrier dries and it leaves some sort of slick film that doesn't stay oily like other lubes. I also found some stuff called Strike-Hold and the stuff is fantastic. It's a CLP type lubricant, but it also dries to the touch. You can use it on electrical components as well (I first saw the stuff at the Shot Show and he sprayed an electric drill motor and ran it underwater). I use it on my knife blades and it keeps them from rusting. Really cool stuff if you want something more hi-tech than the good old Break Free.
