Yeah, I never understood the obsession with bayonet lugs. When was the last time we had a case of a criminal running someone through with a bayonet mounted on a long gun? Although, I do have to admit it would be entertaining to watch the crips and the bloods go at it with a daring bayonet charge...

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with shipping time for USPS Registered Mail coming from Europe. I ordered some wood pistol grips from a fellow in Hungary. He shipped them on December 20th. The last transaction recorded by USPS was "Foreign International Dispatch, December 23, 2010, 9:45 pm, BUDAPEST 1005, HUNGARY" Well, it's now over a month later and no progress. I spoke with the local post office and the Postmaster told me that Registered Mail can take as much as 60 days for overseas shipments. 60 DAYS!?!?!? Nothing takes that long in today's world. Heck, I could swim across the ocean in that amount of time. So has anyone else had this type of experience?

Glock30 is right! People actually have died from dihydrogen monoxide overdose. When consumed in high enough doses, it can cause serious and even fatal changes to body chemistry. It's also a very powerful solvent that can dissolve many common materials. Dangerous stuff.

I saw her interview this morning and my thoughts on it today are identical to those here. It's nice to see a little poetic justice come out of this. The dumb $^%* is <hopefully> going to get what she deserves. I couldn't believe that she was painting herself as a victim here instead of sucking it up and admitting she was a total moron. It will be interesting to see whether some info comes out revealing that she did this on purpose. My suspicion is that it wasn't because she would have claimed injury and hasn't. -
If 500 yds is your goal, you can stick with a standard AR15 and put a match barrel in it along with a match trigger. You'll need a 1:7 barrel and shoot heavier .223 loads to be accurate at that range, but service rifle competition shooters use the AR in .223. Sent from my SPH-M900 using Tapatalk

I have owned a variety of Kel Tec firearms over the years and I have never had any problems out of any of them including my p-11 that I carried as a BUG for a while. $250 sounds like a fair price as long as it is in good shape. Just take it out and shoot plenty rounds of your carry ammo to make sure there are no issues with functioning. If there are, try a different type of ammo and/or contact Kel Tec to see if they can get it running properly.

I'd go with a Model 65 with a 4" bbl. Big enough to handle the .357mag load, fixed sights so no worries about knocking them around, barrel long enough to be accurate at reasonable distances, not too large to carry easily, and plenty of parts available for repairs.
-
I've owned both and found the compact much more concealable than the full-size. Sometimes even the smallest differences in size can make the biggest differences in concealment. The full-size is definitely more than just 1/2" longer in bbl length (assuming they haven't changed it since the late 1990s when I owned them). I know the USP Compact in .45 is bigger than a standard USP Compact, though. In any case, unless you are a really slim fellow that likes to dress with tight clothes, with the right holster you should be able to conceal it well enough.

Here is part of a chat I had with Amazon customer service: He did confirm that the problem is that they listed the console rather than a controller, but would not say what action would be taken by Amazon.

I went to Target's website and it said they were accepting orders to ship in 2-4 weeks. Only time will tell on this one.
-
I ordered one as well. I asked the wife if she wanted a PS3. She asked why. I said that it looks like Target screwed up and is selling them for $39 on Amazon. She laughed and said, "Heck yea! If anything, we'll just sell it on eBay!" Let's see what happens.

Take the wack-job that did the shooting in Arizona for instance. Clearly, that pesky law about not killing people didn't have any effect on him, so surely a gun-control law would have. As I point out to people when I discuss the gun control issue, once a person makes the decision to commit the ultimate crime - murder - all other lesser offenses are automatically null and void in the offender's mind.

In case something has changed since I worked in a retail gun shop back in the late 1990s, gun shops have no way of knowing whether a gun is stolen when they take it in. I worked for a shop in Kentucky and there was no way to run serial numbers or requirements to hold trade-in guns. If everything looked legit with the owner of the gun and there was no reason to be suspicious, then the trade-in was made and the gun was cleaned up, tagged, and put out for sale. The owner tried to work something out with the local police to have them run the serial numbers through NCIC, but they refused (rightfully so because such an arrangement was prohibited by NCIC policies). I only recall one incident when a stolen firearm was taken in on trade and it was discovered because a detective would come in a couple times per week to see what was taken in on trade. Again, unless things have changed or are just different for each state, there's really no way that Bud's, or any other shop, can check on the status of a firearm (nevermind if it was traded-in before it was even reported stolen).

I'd be in for it, but my wife's due date is March 1st, so I have to stay close to the homestead in case she goes into labor early! I'll have to catch the next trip.

My guess is that there just isn't a large enough demand for them. Try this company. They don't show them on their site, but they may be able to make a set for you or know who would. They do revolver grips in Micarta. Custom Pistol Grips and Kits - CollinsCraftGrips

No, it's $25 and it takes about 10 days for them to actually ship it out. I would call, but everything I have read and heard says forget it because you get lost in voicemail hell when you call. Of all the complaints about the place is the slow shipping and total lack of communication (especially by phone; they recommend communication by e-mail and they haven't replied to any of the ones I sent). I guess that's the price you pay for their low prices, but if I could just go pick it up, that would be great.

I have a Lee Turret Press. It's not quite as fast as a progressive reloader (when I get to that point I will be getting a Dillon press). The Lee Turret Press will load handgun and rifle rounds. The dies screw into a removable turret plate so once you set the dies you can pull the whole plate out as a unit and store it away (the extra 4 hole turret inserts are about $10). Lee's customer service is excellent. I got a starter kit that had the press, some basic case prep tools, powder measure, primer dispenser, and a scale for a little more than $100 on the web. Die sets are about $35 each. If you go with the Lee, get the power measure riser so you can use the primer attachment. Here is a link to the same set I have: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=622290&cm_mmc=Froogle-_-Reloading%20-%20Metallic%20Reloading%20Presses-_-PriceCompListing-_-622290 Here is the powder measure riser I mentioned: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=114080 If you go with a single stage press as has been suggested, it's pretty much a guarantee that you'll hate reloading considering how many rounds you will be doing. Single stage is great for small runs of ammo because it gives you a chance to carefully prepare each cartridge, but it's much more time consuming than a multi-stage press or progressive press. I have the Frankford Arsenal case tumbler and bullet puller. For the money, these are a great value compared to Hornady and RCBS. -
Right, but if you buy one of their GunBroker auction guns (in this case a rifle), will they allow you to pick it up in person or do they require their auction sales to be shipped out regardless of whether it is a long-gun or not?
-
Does anyone know if Bud's will allow someone to purchase a rifle from their GunBroker auctions and pick it up in the retail store? I drive to Lexington fairly regularly and I'd rather do that instead of paying the shipping and transfer fees.

GOP Rep. Will Introduce New Strict Gun Law | The Blaze A popular GOP congressman announced today that he will soon introduce gun control legislation that will make it illegal to carry a gun within 1,000 feet of a federal official. Rep. Peter King (R-NY), who has generally been supportive of gun control measures, announced the new legislation alongside strong anti-gun New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Not surprisingly, the legislation, which will be introduced in the upcoming weeks, got Bloomberg’s stamp of approval. King’s office issued a statement about the bill, which reads in part: Congressman Peter King today also announced that he will introduce legislation that will make it illegal to knowingly carry a gun within 1,000 feet of the President, Vice President, Members of Congress or judges of the Federal Judiciary. In the United States, it is illegal to bring a gun within 1,000 feet of a school. Passing a similar law for government officials would give federal, state, and local law enforcement a better chance to intercept would-be shooters before they pull the trigger. Bloomberg, the head of the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, applauded the measure, saying at a joint news conference the “system that’s supposed to protect us from dangerous and deranged people has failed.” At that same news conference, King defended the bill, saying “The fact is they do represent the people who elect them, and it‘s essential if we’re going to continue to have contact that the public who is at these meetings are ensured of their own safety.” According to him, the measure does not conflict with conservative views on gun laws. “From a conservative perspective, we have to have a stable society, we have to keep crime down,” King said. “You cannot do that if the police cannot be assured that illegal guns are not on the street.” “To have a stable society and a safe society, we have to remove illegal guns,” he continued. But the main issue might be, if a gun is already “illegal” why would we need more legislation to outlaw it? For example, in many states, laws already prevent people from carrying a concealed weapon. And the other question is how would this legislation prevent a crazed gunman — who already has no respect for laws against murder — from doing exactly what Loughner did? Despite the rhetoric of the news conference, all indications are that King’s legislation is not just aimed at illegal guns (that would be redundant). It seems to apply more to “legal” gun owners — those who have permits to carry a concealed weapon, or those who are more inclined to abide by the law. Reports indicate that at least one such person was at the Tucson Safeway the day Rep. Gabriell Giffords was shot. Joe Zamudio is one of the men who helped subdue Tucson gunman Jared Loughner. Zamudio admitted he was carrying a concealed weapon at the time, and he was seconds away from using it. Under King’s legislation, however, Zamudio’s gun would have been illegal. Still, Bloomberg thinks the legislation does not infringe one’s right to keep and bear arms. “That does not take away the First amendment, it protects it,” he said. “That does not take away the Second amendment, I think it protects it” King is the same congressman who vowed to hold hearings on radical Islam, and currently chairs the House Homeland Security Committee. He said he expects the president’s support on the bill, which would specifically make it illegal to carry a gun within 1,000 feet of the president, vice president, members of Congress, or judges of the Federal Judiciary. King isn’t the first legislator to vow more gun legislation. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) said they will soon introduce a measure to ban high-capacity gun clips (defined as more than 10 rounds).

Eyeman, those are some excellent looking grips! I piddled with the idea once myself and found that there are many grip makers who use the same method you did to create the raised areas on the back of your PPK grips. Even some commercial grips (one for the Colt SAA come to mind immediately) have glue blocks that the end-user has to position and attach so it will fit their particular firearm.

I have a Galco Miami Classic and used to wear it occasionally with my P226 when I was in law enforcement. I tried it with and without the tie downs and preferred it without. I felt that once I got it properly adjusted that it was secure enough without the tie downs. Now it just sits in my closet since I don't dress in a way to make it particularly practical.
