There seems to be quite a following for that rifle. What's so great about it? I know they can be had fairly cheaply, but I am under the impression the ammo is tough to get and from glancing at them on the rack, they look like a typical surplus bolt rifle. What am I missing on this one? Is this one I need to pick up for my collection?

If I am out and decide to have a drink, I just lock the pistol up in the car. I never drink to the point of intoxication (literally 1 beer with dinner), so I see no significant risk in doing that. The risk involved is no worse than sitting at home drinking a beer with my entire gun collection nearby. I totally get the "alcohol and guns don't mix" argument, but let's be realistic here. One or two drinks doesn't suddenly turn someone into an inebriated stark-raving lunatic. If it did, there would be literally millions of shootings every year.

Glad I'm not the only one who sees it as a generally useless design. I'll get one for the plinking value, which will be great when my son is a bit older.

I can see how it would be fun to shoot. I would actually pick one up if I could sell the S&W 22A-1 I have sitting in my gun safe. I'm getting into the .22LR thing because of ammo prices, and I already have a 10/22 and extra mags.

I have to admit I'm intrigued by the Ruger Charger and have thought about picking one up, but find myself asking "why?" I mean, it's a 10/22 in pistol format, which is a stretch since it's really to large to shoot as a pistol. If I mounted a scope and the bipod, why not just shoot a regular 10/22 rifle? It still seems kind of cool, but I can't quite figure out the rationale behind it. Am I missing something on this one?

Except for some very rare circumstances, shoulder rigs are a PITA as far as I am concerned. They are popular because of Miami Vice. I have a Galco Miami Classic I picked up years ago, wore it once, put it in a box and haven't worn it since. I have made a few shoulder rigs for folks, but they were pilots and/or military folks playing over in the sandbox who needed an easy way to carry the M9 over their issued gear. Skip the rig, get a rifle. As one other person mentioned, I got a pistol caliber carbine. It's a Kel Tec Sub 2000 that will share mags with my Glock 22. It's great because it folds in half and can easily be carried in a backpack. I'm gathering mags including one 33 round mag and figure that's more than enough for most any situation I might encounter. Those are in the safe with my Remington 870 and my AR15. If all that doesn't do what I could ever need it to do, I probably deserve to be eaten.

Here's what I used to get it back together. It has good step-by-step instructions including close-up pics. The process is just crazy. Drop the hammer, put in the mag, take out the mag, flip it one way, then flip it over. Good lawd! Gun Talk Online

American Rifleman. Not because it's an NRA publication, but because it has a good blend of topics on legislation, self-defense, historical topics, and a variety of shooting topics.

There are a couple of pluses to the Springfield: 1) grip safety, 2) loaded chamber indicator, 3) accessory rail, 4) new pistol comes with holster. Some complain that they feel top-heavy because the center of gravity is a little higher on them than the Glock. The Glock has some pluses as well: 1) simplicity, 2) plenty of aftermarket parts & accessories, 3) reliability, 4) customer service is excellent, 5) shorter trigger reset than the Springfield. When I owned a G27, I preferred the finger extension on it because shooting the .40 out of any small auto can be a handful. Both are as accurate as you are. Glock set the standard for polymer striker-fired pistols, and the Springfield, Walther PPS, and Sigma are adaptations (some say improvements over the Glock, others say not so much). Handle them, shoot them, then pick whichever you like better because you can't go wrong with either. All that said, I carry a Walther PPS since it is a much more concealable model than either the Glock or Springfield. As far as I am aware, there are no issues with the replacement barrels on the Glocks. I have one that I use in my G22 since you can't shoot reloads out of the Glock factory barrel because of the unsupported chamber. It was literally a drop-in fit with no issues with function or reliability. They can be obtained at reasonable prices. Take a look at www.glockmeister.com, Glock, Glock Accessories, Glock Handguns, Glock Barrels, Glock Parts, Glock Sights and Glock Lasers, and Glock - Buy holsters, sights, magazines and more for your Glock handguns | RockYourGlock.com, LLC in addition to Midway USA and Brownell's for aftermarket barrel options.

YES!!! I had to take it apart and put it back together 3 or 4 times before I finally got it right. I couldn't get that little hammer strut (or whatever that little piece is) to fit into the takedown lever correctly. Then I couldn't get the darn bolt to pull back. It's a brand new pistol (one of the Talo 60th Anniversary editions). I took it down to clean all the factory oil and make sure it looked good to go. I've wanted one for years and never picked one up. Now I can't wait to take it to the range and plink away with it. I have a Smith & Wesson 22A-1 that I play with as well, but it needs to go back to Smith for that bolt recall that obviously never got done to it (I bought it used and didn't find out about it until last week).

Any recommendations on a Ruger 10/22 stock?

Wow... there are too many options out there. I'll pick one out and post pics once I get it put together. Thanks for all the help! -
The Rossi rifles are generally good guns for the money. I have an EMF Hartford, which is basically a Rossi Puma and I am very happy with it so far. They are fairly common in the cowboy action shooting world as a low-cost entry level rifle and there are smiths out there who specialize in slicking them up for competition if you are so inclined. The biggest gripe I read, and I can confirm this, is that the springs are heavy in them. They aren't so heavy that it's a pain to shoot, but definitely a knuckle buster if you are trying to cycle the lever action quickly (I wrapped my lever in leather to help this). I purchased a spring kit from Brownell's, but haven't taken the time to install it yet. The two springs that seem to get the most attention are the mainspring and the ejector spring. Some also thin down the loading gate spring to make reloading a little easier. Overall, they are good little rifles and with minimal tweaking, you can have a nice shooter. I love mine and haven't changed out the springs yet. Here are a couple of links that may be of interest to you: The Rossi '92 Rossi Field Stripping

Is a real pain in the arse to field strip and put back together. Just wanted to share that...

I picked up one used here on TGO for about $300, which is pretty reasonable for a used one. If it were one that used the Beretta mags, I'd be all over it. On second thought, I think that estimate is a bit too high. I'd suggest asking $75. I'll take it.

Welcome to the forum. Plenty of knowledgeable folks here. Even if you don't find a build group, I'd be happy to answer any questions and I'm certain others who are more knowledgeable than I am will be happy to help you out as well.

I watched it and thought it was a lousy show. Just like Top Shot. Both are crap. They both ruin a perfectly interesting topic by making it overly dramatic.

Damn... RIP. It's been a tough year for our LEOs.

I have a Ruger 10/22 I got from a buddy a while back and I'm looking for an aftermarket stock since the factory stock is just too short to suit me. The rifle has a Butler Creek lightweight bull barrel installed. Anyone have suggestions for a good stock that won't cost as much as a new 10/22 rifle? It's for plinking primarily, so I don't want to invest a fortune into it. I'm eyeballing the Archangel Deluxe Target Stock, but I'm not totally sold on it. Or, if anyone has any ideas on how I could modify the one I have would be helpful as well.

OS, you da man. Thanks for the clarification.

OK, I see. Does the age of the firearm make a difference?
