  1. Republican senators press president on War Powers deadline – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs
  2. True, but the folks who work there tend to be on the left side of the political spectrum. Or at least that's my perception from personal experience.
  3. ^^^ This. I contacted Starbucks corporate in reference to their decision and they made it very clear that they were not taking a stand on the gun issue, but felt compelled to respect the laws of the individual states. Yeah, no kidding. What better way to convince Starbucks corporate to change their policy than to have a bunch of people open carry in their stores?
  4. Glad to see that Powell is well represented here!
  5. We need to stop being the world's policeman and let these other nations deal with their own problems. Libya is no major threat to the US. If Libyan people want their leader gone, let them do it. Mike.357 is correct; this is a UN operation and as one of the leading members of the organization, we are involved. I think in this case, Congress would actually have to vote to keep us out of the conflict. If memory serves me, Congress has to approve participation in these sorts of things, but I very well could be mistaken. And I really have no clue what this "prom" thing is about. Guess I need to do some snooping around...
  6. Really, don't worry about it. They aren't that delicate. Remember that you are ramming them into the case when you load the rounds, carrying them in a firearm, they are subjected to all sorts of forces during firing, and they only go off when a firing pin hits them (and a firing pin won't do it if it doesn't strike the primer hard enough). I regularly drop them, watch them bounce across my garage floor, pick them up and toss them back in the primer tray.
  7. As long as the primer itself is not damaged, you can just put it back in the package. Primers will only go off if struck very hard by a hard object, so you don't need to worry about just dumping them out of the Safety Prime and putting them back in the package. If you do need to dispose of that one, I would just drop it in the trash. Again, it's not prone to detonating, and even if it did, it's not even as big of a bang as a firecracker. If you're really really worried about it, just drop some oil onto the open side of the primer and that will deactivate the primer. And if you are really really really worried about it, drop some oil on it and then wrap it loosely in a paper towel so that nothing will strike it in the garbage.
  8. In my experience, most cases are thrown out is simply a lack of sufficient evidence. Some cases do get tossed due to an improper search, but seldomly are they blatant cases of officer misconduct. Rather they are a ruling based on interpretations of case law. Many of the cases that are more blatant are either dropped by the prosecutor or are more commonly plead out. In my decade in policing, I can count on one hand the number of cases I know were thrown out of court due to an illegal search.
  9. That is a different issue, but again, if it really were the cops, you'd better have some pretty compelling evidence. Generally, it's pretty easy to tell if it is a real police officer or not. Legality of a search, however is not. In fact, most people don't even come close to knowing the difference.
  10. No loss on this one. I can think of some others who need to follow suit. Palin and Gingrich come to mind first.
  11. Well... first no court in Indiana (or any other state) can "repeal" any part of the US Constitution or federal law. Next, the court didn't say that illegal entries by law enforcement were suddenly legal, rather, they said that individuals have no justification to "resist" the entry. I definitely see both sides of this debate, but consider this: all a defendant would have to do is claim that he/she believed the officer's entry to be unlawful, so they would be able to resist officers and not be held criminally liable. This is very similar to all states that I am familiar with that have laws prohibiting people from resisting an officer even if they believe the arrest/detention to be unlawful. Justification resides in the mind of the defendant, and if the law says that all you have to do is claim a belief that the officer was acting illegally, virtually every case of resisting an officer would be dropped.
  12. Correct, but the ignorant buyers were all jacked up over Obama getting elected and there was an instant run on all firearms, ammunition, and reloading supplies that we are still trying to recover from. My point is that perhaps with a Republican in office, people will stop the panic buying and hording prices will follow reduced demand.
  13. Maybe if we can get a Republican back in the White House, prices will come down a bit...
  14. When I looked at the CMP website last night, all they had were field grade and service grade with a couple of special grade rifles, but those were over $1000 each. I prefer to have one of the older ones, but in good enough shape to shoot every once in a while. It may be easiest to just head down to Anniston AL one day and pick one out.
  15. I'd hate to think of the male equivalent to this design...
  16. Looking at the CMP M1 Garands available right now and wondered if anyone has any input on the grades. Is it worth the extra $100 for the service grade over a field grade rifle?
  17. Except that this data is not new. In recent years, the majority of gun-related crime including homicide has been associated with inner city youths, mostly black (I say this not to racially charge this, but because it's a fact), and related to gang activity and the illicit drug trade. It's a problem of the police not being able to effectively deal with gangs and illegal drugs, which we have spent trillions of dollars over the past 40 years trying to deal with. We put millions of people in prison for drug related crime, so many people, in fact, that we have the highest rate of incarceration of any nation in the entire world. Gun control advocates are making the same complaint you are, and they argue the next logical step is to restrict gun ownership nationwide since local restrictions alone don't work. Just sayin...
  18. Hence my "symbolic assailant" reference above. I always told my trainees, follow the policy and the law, but never forget to treat the people you come into contact with like you would expect a family member under the same circumstances to be treated, and sometimes the most important ticket or arrest is one that you never do. The police are supposed to protect and serve the communities they are a part of, not treat every person out there like a homicidal maniac. With the current state of police training, caution tends to override common sense.
  19. The big deal for me is that it looks like crap and he's asking for an extra $75 - $100 for the paint job over the price of a basic 91/30..
  20. And the seller is charging quite a premium for this "custom" paint scheme. Custom Russian 91/30 airbrushed rifle green design : Curios and Relics at GunBroker.com
  21. At risk of getting off track here, when we first moved to Knox Vegas, we cruised out that way to take a look around. We were in our used Suzuki sedan surrounded by Land Rovers, Mercedes Benzes, BMWs, and the like. I looked at my wife and said we needed to get back to our side of town before we got pulled over for looking suspicious. Now back to our originally scheduled forum thread.
  22. That must have just happened because I had him do a transfer for me a couple of weeks ago and it was $20 plus $10 TICS. That sucks...
