  1. Does anyone know of a place that sells the Fallkniven F1 in the Knoxville metro area?  I checked Smokey Mountain Knife Works, but they don't carry it.  I need one to make a custom sheath for someone and they need it in a hurry.  Anyone have any suggestions?
  2. Got the AR sold, so now it's just keeping an eye out for a good deal on an AK.
  3. That is a very good point regarding the Social Security issue.  Honestly, I didn't catch the significance when I scanned over the announcement the first time.  I think the "doing business" issue will probably target those folks who literally conduct gun sales for profit under the radar.  The feds would have to hire literally thousands of agents to try and keep track of private gun sales and that's not going to happen in response to an EO from a lame duck president.
  4. So, this EO kills off the NFA trusts and that's basically it.
  5. Without going to a LEO retention holster, you probably have two main options: 1) a regular belt holster with a thumb-break retention strap, or 2) one of the basic retention holsters like the Blackhawk Serpa or the Safariland ALS with the locking device.  I'm perfectly comfortable with option one.
  6. I've had one of these for a few years and I really like it for use as a supplemental/emergency heat source.  I bought the adapter hose that allows you to run it off of a large LP tank, and I think that is well worth the money.  Like you said, it is quiet and puts out some nice heat.
  7. I used to have several handguns in that caliber and carried it as a LEO.  Sold every one and switched to 9mm.
  8. I saw that, but I would need to sell an AR before I have the funds for that.  I need to get that thing out and figure out what a fair price would be on it.
  9.       That's exactly what I was thinking.  If one is "in the business" of selling firearms then they are required to have an FFL, so this doesn't accomplish anything except to confuse the situation and placate anti-gunners.  What a bunch of BS.
  10. I was going to say it's a lousy and overrated movie, but then I realized you were talking about lubrication.
  11. Ahhhh, yes.  That's a good point.  So using that approach, that could be part of the legal logic that supports carry permits for bearing arms in public places beyond the boundaries of your property.
  12. Sure, I get that, but isn't hunting a defacto aspect of "bearing arms" just as defense of life and property?  Also, by being required to license our hunting activity, aren't we essentially part of a database that tracks gun owners?  I guess your real point is that one can own a firearm without the intention of using it for anything other than self defense. I also have never heard of a hunting and fishing license being combined.
  13. Why the Yugo?  Ironically, one of the AKs I owned and sold was a Yugo underfolder, but wish I hadn't.   I am thinking of selling off one of my AR builds to fund a new AK, and I could almost completely cover a new Yugo with what I think I could reasonably get for the AR I have in mind.
  14. I recently forced myself to take the hunter's safety course, and I received my first fishing rod today for Christmas.  In looking at info on fishing licenses, something struck me that seems counter-intuitive.  As gun owners, we believe in our right to possess and bear arms for the purposes of self-defense and providing for our families should we choose to hunt for food.  Efforts to regulate gun ownership result in a justifiable outcry from most gun owners, but I see no real outcry at the notion that we must take special training and pay for licensing to use our firearms for sporting purposes (or our unregulated fishing rods for taking fish).   Has anyone else put any thought to the irony of people being generally supportive of hunter safety classes and licensing requirements, but is resistant to any efforts to require gun owners to have training and a permit to own firearms?  Isn't the issue the same either way?  Again, not advocating for such a policy, but it strikes me as interesting that people refuse to consider training and licensing requirements for owning a gun, but have no problem with training and licensing requirements when it comes to actually using them for hunting.  I totally understand the reasoning behind hunting licenses and training, but the same safety arguments could be made for requiring training and licensing for gun ownership.  Also, as I understand the rules, you essentially give up many of your rights when engaging in hunting and fishing so that Fish and Game officers can inspect your firearm, your boat, and any game you have harvested.  Again, I understand the reasoning for this, but it seems to go against the arguments against having the same requirements for gun ownership. Sorry if I am rambling, but I am thinking out loud as I type.  Just curious what people's thoughts are on the topic.   :)
  15. I LOVE that desert ironwood.  Probably my favorite on the Magic I've seen yet.
  16. And/or it just shows how much the mark-up is on gun parts.
  17. So, you can buy locally from them and not go through a distributor?
  18.   Not exactly, other than a reliable shooter.
  19. DDI looks like a great option, especially since it's a local business.
  20.   Yeah, I had a couple and let them go because I was more on the AR-15 kick, but now that I have more than a couple of them I am ready to give the AK another go. You can still get the WASR for a reasonable price and the PSAK kits seem to be a decent deal.  Been thinking about one of PSA's Zhukov builds.
  21. I've bought and sold a couple of AK rifles over the years and now the bug has bitten me again. I'm trying to decide whether to try and build one using a Palmetto State Armory receiver and build kit or if I'm better off just buying one. I've built a few AR rifles from scratch, so I have a little gunsmithinging knowledge and above average mechanical ability. I know many of you are AK folks and I am hoping you might be able to give me some helpful insight into the build process and/or the reasons buying a completed rifle is the better option.
