  1. This OWS connection is total speculation. The private investigator who made the "connection" does not provide any evidence at all to back it up. He is totally speculating. ABC had more information to back up their incorrect claim that the shooter was a Tea Party member. On the guy's WordPress page, he titles his blog post as: Then all he says is: Nothing to this as far as I can tell. Info may come up later to prove the allegation, but Bill Warner PI sure doesn't tell us about any evidence. He is all over putting his name and web address on the post though. Nothing like saying something sensational to try and round up some business. http://cheatersflori...nd-wounding-50/
  2. That would be funny, but we'd all end up on a terror watch list and probably face criminal charges after they freaked out thinking it was a terror attack.
  3. I am far from an Obummer fan, but I thought his speech was good. He managed to get through it without saying anything political, without alienating anyone, and without saying anything stupid. ABC News is also now saying the suspect has no connection with the Tea Party. He's a PhD student from San Diego. Way to jump the gun there ABC!
  4. I'm putting together my paperwork to SBR an AR 15. Has anyone dealt with the Knox County Sheriff to get the paperwork signed? Just wondering where to take it, how long they usually have it, etc. Also, where would I be able to get my fingerprints done? Before anyone asks, I'm not going the trust route because I don't want to pay a lawyer $500+ to get a $200 SBR and I have read that the DIY NFA trusts done through the Willmaker software are likely incorrect and thus make your NFA items illegal to possess. I doubt I will buy any other NFA items except for a suppressor so I just can't justify the cost of a trust in my mind. So, can anyone provide any insight on getting my CLEO signatures and prints in Knox County?
  5. I would think that the 1/4 oz would be more than enough to do a few sets of sights. I bought a 1 ounce jar of the really good glow paint and I'll never use it all up in my lifetime doing sights on guns.
  6. This. Medical professionals have a legal and ethical obligation to use all available means to save the patient unless the patient has a DNR order or refuses care. To refuse care, the patient must be in the right mental state to rationally make such a decision, which is not legally the case in attempted suicides. At that point, the law presumes that you are mentally incapacitated and unable to make decisions for yourself. If you are in a coma or unconscious, consent is assumed unless someone can present a DNR and/or living will. Family can agree to give you treatment, but can't necessary refuse treatment on your behalf unless they possess a DNR/living will or have been given guardianship by a court, which is common when a patient is in a vegetative state or has a terminal illness where loss of mental ability is likely such as cancer or Alzheimer's. If a medical profession fails to give all possible care, they can face criminal and civil penalties and will likely lose their license to practice medicine.
  7. Thank you for reminding me I don't have to buy it if I don't like it since I said that I was considering voting with my wallet in the OP. Would you feel the same way if it was bashing Christianity or a political candidate you like? Just curious...
  8. Perhaps, but we don't have the entire story here. Just the typical video posted by people who have an axe to grind (whether they are justified or not). The point I am trying to make is that they obviously do this to draw attention to themselves and make a scene. Then they video it to put on the web. This is not the way to sell your political views to a society that generally finds open carry inappropriate at best and criminal at worst. Reasonable suspicion resides in the mind of the officer and ultimately must be communicated to a judge and jury to determine if their suspicion was in fact reasonable given the totality of the circumstances as the officer knew them at the time. We know nothing about any extenuating circumstances, prior history of problems with this group at other businesses, or what may have been said or done by any party involved when the camera wasn't running. I'm very critical of police misconduct and abuse of people's civil liberties and I talk at great length about "noble cause corruption" and how the police subculture justify inappropriate use of authority in the name of arresting criminals. However, if people want to play the "civil disobedience" route and blatantly open carry for political effect, they should expect to raise the ire of people whether justified or not. I frankly don't feel sorry for these people. They went out looking for trouble and found it.
  9. PSA just announced this on their Facebook page. Very bad business decision in my opinion. Besides the fact that I don't want to be reminded of Obama every time I pick up my rifle, I think the reference to Islam is in particularly bad taste. This just gives ammo to the liberals who like to portray gun owners as a bunch of radical right-wing loons. I think that insulting any religion is inappropriate, especially in this way. I'm annoyed enough by it that I may stop spending my money with them. Just curious what others think about this design.
  10. I'm looking for a 1 pound block of beeswax. I can find it online for about $7.00 a block, but find that the shipping costs as much as the wax. Does anyone know of a place that sells it around Knoxville for a reasonable price?
  11. It seems you don't know who the Sovereign Citizens are. That group would likely do exactly that if the mood hit them. A father was pulled over in West Memphis a few years back and his young son jumped out of the vehicle with an AK 47 and killed the cop. Also, the police don't have to legally have PC to talk to someone, or even temporarily detain them. All they need is consent or reasonable suspicion. The police can legally detain someone based on reasonable suspicion long enough to ID them and determine if anything illegal is taking place. If they can't establish probable cause within a reasonable timeframe, then they must release the individual. Whether we like it or not, the vast majority of people and cops in most places in our society would find this sort of thing quite suspicious and alarming. I'm all for supporting my 4th Amendment rights, but if I am so eager to open carry like that, then I expect to draw attention, which I think is the point of OC in most circumstances. Then when the cops show up, I will be happy to provide ID and try to dispel their concerns. Unless of course, my goal was to make a scene in the first place, then I would OC in a business, wait for the cops, make a scene, video it, and put it on the web so people will look at me and talk about how great of a 2nd Amendment supporter I am. Frankly, people who pull these open carry stunts are no different than the environmentalists who chain themselves to trees or the Occupy people who camp out in a park to make a political statement. Sorry folks, but this sort of thing doesn't win anyone over to your side of thinking. Nothing wins people over to your side of a political argument like having a bunch of political activists show up to stage a protest and then get in a pissing contest with the police while you are trying to eat your dinner. Instead, it makes all gun owners look bad. Like I say every time this open carry topic comes up, there is a reason the vast majority of off duty cops carry concealed.
  12. From stories I have read from multiple people on the web, if Pay Pal figures out that you have used your account to send or receive money for prohibited items, firearms included, they will lock your account and you will have one heck of a time getting your money if any is still in your account. They are such sticklers that when I started using Pay Pal for my holster business, they locked my account for a few days until they could confirm that I did not sell firearms (I have pictures of firearms on my website for product demonstration). I wish there was another alternative for accepting secure CC payments. I almost switched to Gun Pal (aka GPal). Glad I didn't get caught up in that fiasco. In any case, if you think that Pay Pal won't figure it out, go ahead, but know they do actively search for transactions (including keywords and I have also heard auction numbers from Gun Broker). If you get caught, it's a guaranteed ban from Pay Pal and you may lose your funds.
  13. I love my .32 Seecamp. I bought one just for holster making and it ended up being a regular carry piece for me. I've heard that the .380 version is wicked tough to handle, so I've not had any interest in them. I'm guessing the top one is the .25 based on the finish.
  14. Either the depriming pin has pushed up, or it's broken off. I broke on of the pins on one of my Lee dies. I called them up and ordered a new one. I had it in my hand in less than a week.
  15. I lived in Panama City for 7 years and that was enough of Florida for me. Contrary to popular belief, Florida does have four seasons: 1) Tourist season 2) Hurricane season 3) Football season 4) Summer Welcome to the Volunteer State!
  16. I've always used Trijicon sights with the exception of one set of Meprolight sights. I always found them to be the brightest and longest lasting tritium sights out there. I have a Glock 22 with Trijicons that must be well over 15 years old, maybe even close 20 years old. They aren't bright, but in a dark room, there is still plenty of glow left for use in low-light. The XS Big Dot sight on my Ruger SP101 has Trijicon markings on the top (and XS on the side). If I am not mistaken, the Glock OEM night sights are made by Trijicon. Go with the Trijicons and you won't regret it.
  17. As others have said, you need to go handle, and preferably shoot different firearms to get a feel for what you like best. With that said, I am a huge Sig fan. I carried one for most of my decade in law enforcement and it's the best firearm overall that I have owned. When I left my last department, I had to turn in the P229 they issued and I missed it so much I ended up buying a P226 in 9mm. I don't have the SRT installed and never really felt the need for it. I never had a bit of trouble qualifying with the standard trigger. IMHO, when you want the best go for a Sig. There is a reason that several police and military special ops units have chosen the Sig over the Glock (or many other fine handguns out there).
  18. Here is another link: http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news%2Fstate&id=8707343 I'm glad to see this story. It shows that the right decision was made. After beating the man who was raping his 4 year old child, he called 911 to have an ambulance come get his sorry worthless butt, which is the right thing to do. The P.O.S. took a dirt nap before the medics got there, and that's just fine with me. I hope the dad and the family is able to pick up the pieces of this tragic event and move on.
  19. Sweet gift! Thanks to the terrible service my wife received at Frontier Firearms a couple of years back, she has vowed to never buy me another gun or firearms related accessory again. That was her first ever gun purchase and she has refused to even walk into a gun store since.
  20. If the police arrested every person who made stupid and unnecessary 911 calls, the jails would be full. When I was in law enforcement, it's safe to say that 75% or more of the 911 calls that came into our police department were BS non-emergency calls. An actual emergency call was so rare that the 911 phone lines were just as busy as the non-emergency lines. People would call about anything from needing directions to the beach to complaining about their cable service or loud neighbors. Instead of using 911 for emergencies, it has become an easy number for people to remember for calling the police.
  21. My understanding is that the group is comprised mostly of the most radical members of the Brady group who were dissatisfied with Brady's lack of aggressive action. Their "fact sheets" are basically broad political commentary with a small handful of cherry-picked statistics that are taken totally out of context (yes, I know every group does that, but this is to the extreme). I just enjoy screwing with them. They also have a pathetic Facebook page if anyone would like to see it. It's basically a bunch of pro-gun people posting on their wall. Kind of amusing.
  22. I am a big Streamlight fan. I have a Stinger that I carried when I was in law enforcement. It has served me well for over 10 years with only a single set of replacement batteries. I also have the Streamlight Sidewinder Compact on my BOB, a PT-2L clipped to the small pouch I keep my PSK in, and a Nanolight in my PSK. All have been great and are very bright for being so compact. I also bought one of those Gun Shack CREE P2 flashlights off of Gearhog a few months ago and it's really nice and bright. I like that it will work off of a single CR123 lithium battery or a single AA battery. It's actually brighter than my Streamlight PT-2L and the price on it was great. I'll probably order another one next time they pop up on Gearhog. I have tried several different kinds of cheaper LED flashlights like you can buy at Lowe's and they have all been junk that stop working after a short time. I've also owned 3 different SureFire lights and all 3 were total junk. None lasted for more than a few months, and my last purchase was a Nitrolon G2. I went through 3 lamp assemblies in less than a year of very light use. I tried contacting SureFire customer service 3 or 4 times and have yet to get any response from them. I finally threw it in the garbage and swore I would never own another one. Seriously, even if someone gave me one for free, I'd get rid of it to save myself the annoyance of dealing with another piece of junk flashlight.
  23. Generally, the advantages to an aftermarket barrel over the factory are that the chamber of the aftermarket barrel is a little tighter and the traditional rifling allows you to shoot lead bullets instead of being stuck with jacketed ammo. The aftermarket barrels are generally suggested for anyone who plans to shoot reloads because the tighter and supported chamber reduces the risk of a case split and you are not limited to the jacketed bullets, thus saving you a little money. I personally own a Lone Wolf barrel and I am happy with it. My Lone Wolf barrel was drop in and the pistol functions just fine with it installed. I did not see an appreciable improvement in accuracy, to say that anyone should absolutely spend the money on an aftermarket barrel. So unless you really plan to do precision shooting and/or shoot reloaded ammo, there really isn't any major benefit to the aftermarket barrel over the stock barrel. I keep the factory barrel in my G22 for the potential of improved feeding due to the slightly looser chamber, and only use my Lone Wolf when shooting reloads on the range. I read that in the past Lone Wolf had some quality control issues, but my impression is that they were experiencing some growing pains and the issues are largely a thing of the past. I have heard many others rave about the Storm Lake barrels, but for my needs, I just didn't see the point in spending more to get one over the Lone Wolf.
