I have thought that the best way to do this type of study would be to give a participants the firearms and have them carry them regularly over the course of a few days and then pick a random time for the "shooter" to attack.  That way it would give the "permit holder" time to get complacent and not be on high alert.  Also, the "shooter" should be an average person as well since most of the real-world shooters are nothing more than average folks with little to no firearms training.  By randomly assigning people to the "shooter" group and letting each of them have a go, you would make the experiment more real-world.  

That's my philosophy.  A $5 bottle of Break Free will last me several years and I only need about 1 jar of Hoppes per year, so the convenience factor of not needing to mix up my own concoction and risk it not doing as good a job is worth the added cost.

It's not just that.  The students knew the purpose of the "experiment" and the highly trained police officers who acted as bad guys knew which student had the gun before they came into the classroom.  This little exercise was nothing more than a quick draw competition between a novice and an expert who had every possible advantage.  Completely BS, but the gun grabbers love it because facts don't matter.

I have a regular M1A and wish it was the Scout version.  For me, the 18" bbl is the best of both worlds.  Long enough to be accurate and keep the velocity up, but short enough to easily carry and handle.  I've considered sending it off to have a scout length barrel installed.  I also considered an AR 10, but decided since I already have the M1A and several mags, I might as well keep it instead.

Yes, it is.  That "experiment" was done many years ago and has been thoroughly ripped up on the web, including on TGO.  It was, and remains to be, total BS.

I stopped into the new Crossroads Firearms on N. Broadway in Knoxville this evening, which is in the same spot as the old Randy's Gun Shop.  Randy retired and sold his shop to new owners.  They have only been operating for 3 days now, so their current inventory is basically what was already there when Randy's closed.  The new ownership seems very friendly and the prices aren't jacked up on what inventory is there.  The inventory is quite limited at this point and  they have no ARs or .223/5.56 ammo in stock.  There is some ammo there, but nothing in huge quantities.  They said they are currently trying to acquire more stock to add to the store, and I told them they've had three days already and they need to get on the ball. :D   I'll be looking forward to see how they do things with a little more time to work on their new identity.

Most folks tend to use the verticle for longer barrels and/or cases where they are carrying in confined spaces.  I have made several for pilots in the Middle East who prefer the verticle because it's more comfortable and easier to access in the cockpit of their plane as well as being a bit more secure than a horizontal holster.  When I carried one, I used a horizontal style, but I think if I carried one again, I personally would go with a verticle style because they tend to hold the firearm more securely.  I would say it was primarily to be used when plodding around outside, a verticle would be best since there is less chance it would fall out of the holster.  If you get the proper style holster, accessing the weapon is quite easy.

Well, here is my junky office that's too small for all of my stuff. It's supposed to be temporary until we can shuffle some offices around later this semester. At least I have a nice view!

  That is partially true.  The math says what it says.  The trick comes into the interpretation of what the math says, or which results the researcher chooses to talk about.  Statistical analysis is really an issue of researcher integrity.  If you have significant results that prove your point, you play it up.  If you have results that don't prove your point, you man up and discuss it.  Many researchers only report the former and not the latter, and/or they make some pretty large leaps of logic to spin their results. I did a project in graduate school using data from the UCR Supplemental Homicide Report to see if there was any difference in gun-related homicides in states with more restrictive gun laws compared to states with less restrictive gun laws (I used the Brady Center's own ranking system for that).  I was also curious to see if it would show that Lott's "more guns less crime" thesis was accurate.  I found no statistically significant relationship at all meaning that gun laws have no real effect either way on gun-related homicide (in retrospect, I should have published that).  My professor, knowing I am pro-gun, said, "I'm sorry the data didn't say what you wanted them to say."  I thought that spoke volumes because I wanted the data to tell me the truth and then I talk about what that means, even if it means - especially if it means - that I am wrong.

That means they would have fired me had they known I carried a Beretta 96 in my glove compartment when I delivered for them back in the day (the state I lived in allowed carry of a loaded firearm in your glove compartment).

  Can you show a single quote from her that clearly says she wants to ban all guns in America?  I'm not suggesting that banning any firearms is a policy I would support, but we have enough problems as it is without creating our own red herrings to complicate the situation.  It makes pro-2nd Amendment folks look dishonest and/or conspiratorial, neither of which play well for our side in the media when the sheeple are trying to decide which side to take on the gun control issue.  I know some people who specifically have commented on these sorts of undocumented claims to show that some gun owners are "crazy" and are too delusional to possess firearms. 

Although I can't stand her, I think that quote is taken deceptively out of context.  She was referring to "assault weapons" and not all firearms.  The segment was specifically talking about her support for a total ban on "assault weapons", but this creative editing makes it look like she was talking about all guns.

Magpul basically took the milspec mags and improved on the design.  They are much more durable than the GI spec mags due to their polymer body, so they don't dent or bend as easily.  They have a textured surface that makes them easier to handle.  They have a nice dust cover that protects the feed lips and keep your ammo clean.  One model has a clear window so you can see how many rounds are in it.  They are produced in different colors for those who want them. All of this for the same price as a milspec mag. They are all I use now.

It looks like he did tell you why he locked it:     It appears that he was stopping the conversation before it went too far down a road that didn't need to be traveled.  It's his forum, thus his rules, and I understand his point.

As far as I am aware, the first PPS handguns were the ones with the problems (much like the first run of any firearm) and if memory serves me, it was primarily the .40 S&W version that was having the most trouble. That said, I have owned, shot, and carried my PPS in 9mm for a couple of years now and it is simply one of the best handguns I have ever owned (I've owned a compact and sub-compact 9mm from just about every big manufacturer out there).  The PPS gives you the option of 6, 7, or 8 round magazines and it's a very slim handgun.  I can't say enough good things about it, and I can't really think of any negative points.    Keep in mind that Smith & Wesson were the ones making all of the PPK pistols that were plagued with problems, so they have their fair share of issues like any other company. 

You won't regret it. I bought one a couple of years ago to make holsters with and planned to sell it as soon as a dummy gun was available. I liked it so much I've kept it and it has become one of my regular carry guns. It will smooth out with some use. Nice choice!

Just think how much fun it will be if Dianne Feinstein gets her wish and have all the "assault weapons" on her list added to the NFA registry.  :shake:
