I agree with several others here.  For $400 or less, I would probably opt for the Kel Tec PF9.  However, for another $100 you can get a much nicer pistol like a Glock, M&P, or Springfield XD.  I personally would try to save up a little more scratch.   As far as the Taurus pistols, I have owned a PT1911 that had no problems.  I know many people who really like their Taurus pistols.  I also know that when I worked at a gun shop several years ago, the Taurus firearms were the most common to come back with problems.  I also recently spoke with a guy who works at Gander Mountain and said that the Taurus handguns come back more than others.  As a result, I do not intend to buy another.  There are just too many more firearms in the same price range that seem to have a better track record.  I am not bashing Taurus as a whole, nor am I saying this to be a "gun snob".  Rather, I am just sharing my two cents on the subject as I see it.  If it came down to a Taurus or nothing, it would be the Taurus.  If it came down between a Taurus or a Hi Point, I'd take the Taurus.  If it came down to a new Taurus against even a well-used Glock or M&P, I'd go with those any day over the Taurus.  

OK, except the claims of conspiracy theorists ARE falsifiable, unlike religious belief, which is assumed to be unfalsifiable and hence followed through faith.  I think that belief in a supreme being is a somewhat different realm than wacky claims that random trainloads of military vehicles are "evidence" that FEMA is out to get us.

  I used to work part time at a gun shop with a fellow who stockpiled so much ammo that he had to have someone come in and reinforce the floor of his "gun room" with extra floor joists and support pillars in the crawlspace.  He would also "patrol" his property on an ATV while armed with a full-auto MP5, so the money wasn't much of an issue for him.

I dunno... it seems that putting a tactical stock on a Mosin is like putting performance rims and tires on an old Ford station wagon.

  You are correct.  That there are so many people out there who go through their daily lives thinking that a random train transporting military vehicles or towing car haulers is evidence of a FEMA plot is very concerning indeed.

My immediate sense is much of that is accurate. I was planning on doing just that to confirm. With that said, I have long been under the impression that many black Americans have similar feelings, but have been unable to voice their views due to pressure from the Democrats who tend to dominate the black community and blowback coming from less informed people who will label black conservatives as traitors to the black community. As it seems to go in most issues, black conservatives talk about political ideology of which racial equality is part and left-wingers turn it into a debate about racism alone.
