Certainly, and it's also part of the free market for consumers to call out individuals who are engaging in practices that are deemed inappropriate or unfair. If enough consumers are able to collectively change the marketplace through their protests, that is the free market at work. My hope is that these sellers will eventually end up eating a big loss on all of the ammo they've stockpiled as the market corrects itself. In addition to this, people need to stop panic buying. It's such a problem that I even have a buddy who doesn't own a .22 firearm any longer (he only shoots high-dollar big bore stuff), but is trying to gather up 5,000-10,000 rounds "just in case." When I do find ammo, I get only what I know I'll reasonably need and leave some for others, but I know that most likely some jackwad will come in, buy all of it up, and sell it at the gun show for 2-3 times the original cost.

He will go under the bus, and he should!

I don't see how Carney can be the scapegoat on this. Everyone knows that the Press Secretary only presents the official views of the White House; they are just the messenger. Of course, people have been known to bend reality to fit their own worldview and clear up any cognitive dissonance they have, so it's possible some would accept a Carney resignation and leave it at that while somehow pretending that Obama and other high-level officials had no influence over this cover-up. I'd also be very surprised to see any sort of impeachment come out of this, and I am fine with that. I am very concerned about the talk about impeachment that comes up with every presidential administration. I think that the framers of the Constitution did not have this sort of thing in mind when they said "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors". Bad policy decisions just don't reach that level and if we travel down that road I fear we risk opening a door to impeachment hearings for every bad policy decision. That's what elections are for. If we start impeaching officials for every major error, we will no longer have a stable government and will become like a banana republic where we impeach our leaders at will. Plus, we'll be stuck with "shotgun" Joe and that would be a whole new mess to worry about. What I do hope is that these latest scandals, on top of "Fast and Furious" the Obamacare "train wreck" and his other policy missteps will cause him to lose his political support in DC and in the media. -
Whats your idea of a big knife?
East_TN_Patriot replied to Spots's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
For a fixed blade knife, I begin to consider a carry knife "big" when the blade gets to be 4 or 5 inches long. For me, a knife is a tool and blades much longer than that get to be too large for everyday cutting needs and the sheath starts to hang down to catch on things. I have a big pig sticker (ESEE Junglas) that I keep on my bug-out-bag because it's basically a small machete, but I don't anticipate ever actually carrying it on a daily basis. When I do carry a fixed blade, it's usually my ESEE RAT-3 or a similar sized one I picked up from KFU on here a few months ago. As you already know, knives are tools and their design should match the intended use. Most people don't have a need for a massive blade for EDC. People also don't want to be weighted down with a large heavy knife (kind of like the small frame pocket pistol versus a large frame 1911 or revolver). -

There is no real way to spin an absolute lie once the facts come out. His only hope on this one is that his friends in the media will try to downplay the cover-up and do a good enough job that his groupies will buy it. I am not sure that is apt to happen considering folks like Joe Klein have even come out against him on this and are even criticizing the use of the IRS to target right-wing political groups. Perhaps even the loony left realizes that this administration is starting down some potentially dangerous paths with its policies. -
Oh no. I am crossing over to the dark side.

Although I don't think we need to dedicate our troops directly to the situation in Syria, I am not opposed to helping rebels to get rid of a regime that may have used chemical weapons against its own citizens (although some sources have suggested that it was the rebels who used the chemical weapons, but I am skeptical of that). Had it not been for France, we'd have the Queen on the front of our money in the United States. I'm not suggesting that we should go running in there - far from it - but I don't have any immediate concerns about sending them some weapons. I would just hope they'd be a little smarter about it than they have been with other situations in the region. If the Muslim Brotherhood is behind the revolt, I'd be inclined to let things play out on their own. -
If this news story about this LEO is true...
East_TN_Patriot replied to Steelharp's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Actually we have a criminal justice system that seeks to make money, not save it. Many of you are familiar with the old military-industrial complex concept. The argument goes that after the end of the Cold War, those industries - and the government spending that went with it - shifted from military production to criminal justice efforts. Problem is, they have spent so much money that the government has run out of money. -

Except children are far more likely to drown in a swimming pool (1.2 per 100K) than be killed by an accidental shooting (0.2 per 100k) based on the latest mortality data from the CDC. -
Christie Sits With Huffington Post ...

I called that one from the start. I've never understood what anyone on the political right saw in that guy. I know hard-core Tea Party folks who think he's a God-send to the Republican Party. -
I've not avoided TFA. No emails, no communications via mail, nothing has shown up on my FB news feed. Nothing for me to lose sleep over, but when I saw the comment in one news story by a TFA representative that the giveaway was targeted to middle Tennessee, that kind of bugged me.

It totally depends on what model Safariland holster it is. New, I've seen them run between $30 and $130, but it's been a few years since I was in the market for one. Is it a police duty holster or a belt holster? Whatever style it is, I suspect that it being for a Ruger P85 will make it much less easy to sell than if it were for a Glock 17 or a Sig P226. It also depends on the condition. Even a top-of-the-line Safariland 070 SSIII duty holster will be worth very little if it's trashed. As a side note, Safariland holsters aren't actually leather. They are plastic/vinyl over a layer of harder plastic with some suede glued to the inside. I carried my duty gun in a Safariland 070 SSIII for almost my entire time in law enforcement and if I ever carried a handgun on duty I'd use one again.

Not even close to being worth it IMHO. If one has the money to spare, have at it, but I can think of hundreds of things that I could buy with the money I'd save by getting a high-end Kimber or Springfield that will perform just as well.

I presume I am on their email list and I am on their FB page. I didn't know about any local meetings. I paid, got something in the mail, made a few posts on the FB page that got me shouted at by the more conspiracy-minded folks, and that's pretty much all I've heard from them.

I see many of the same abnormalities with this as I do with the Obama birth certificate. This only proves you are a Democratic Party shill. :pleased:
-
For those in law enforcement, I've always recommended "Tactical Edge: Surviving High-Risk Patrol" by Charles Remsberg.
-
Not possible. The Obama administration, FEMA, and DHS are all buying up all the ammo so us common folks can't get it. Which federal agency is paying you to say that? :stir:

It seems this contest has made national news. Funny thing is, I am a paid member of TFA and I never heard a word about this contest. One story said that the contest was primarily focused on "middle Tennessee residents". So I guess us east Tennessee folks don't deserve a chance at a rifle? Not sure why this irritates me, but it does. http://www.newschannel5.com/story/21938375/gun-giveaway-brings-attention-to

difference between a knife and a sword ?
East_TN_Patriot replied to a topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I agree with Spots. I think it really depends on the intended use. A sword is a weapon that is used by slashing and stabbing with much of the weight concentrated towards the blade end. A knife is a utilitarian piece that can also be used as a weapon that tends to be more balanced in the hand. Then you can get into different distinctions based on unique designs in each. For example, a dagger or a dirk is a knife with a narrow pointed blade that is primarily made for stabbing, especially between the joints in hard armor. -

I'm certain the people in other countries would vigorously disagree with you. Weakness isn't the issue to them, what they see as hypocrisy is the issue. The issue of trying to rhetorically transform an American citizen into an "enemy combatant" so we can justify withholding due process is exactly the sort of thing I am talking about. Our founders would have insisted on a fair trial that includes all due process. As I mentioned earlier, John Adams insisted that the British soldiers who were involved in the Boston Massacre would be given a full public trial that included legal representation. In other words, "foreign combatants" were entitled to full due process. We have no problem with the idea of showing the dead suspect's body in the street, but we sure as hell raise a stink when other nations do that to our citizens and service members. I'm not aware of anyone suggesting that the families should have a paid trip here, but some are certainly saying we should not allow them to be here. -
The circumstances have changed. A man blew up a bomb made with a pressure cooker; you can't risk letting people have a pen knife on a plane.

East_TN_Patriot replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in General Chat
The father is pissed because one son is dead, another was being hunted, people in the United States were already demanding the guy be executed on site, and many others were calling for him to be tortured, beheaded, etc. The dad said if the police killed his other son, there would be "hell to pay." If your son was being held in a Russian jail, a country with which we have a long history of animosity and distrust, accused of a similar crime under a similar set of circumstances, how would you feel if the Russian government wouldn't let more of "them" (meaning you) come to their country to see your son? With attitudes like those that have been demonstrated in the aftermath of this event, is it any wonder why other nations dislike us, distrust us, and have no respect for us? Our country simply doesn't practice what it preaches. You're right; when *will* we ever learn? -

Come on now. That doesn't make for a good hysteria-inducing news story. -
I didn't much care for the original grips that came on the Kimber Pro Raptor II, so I ordered a set of these grip panels from RAASCO Grips. They are double diamond pattern in "tortoise" color. I'm really impressed with the fit and finish. If you're looking for some nice grip panels at a reasonable price, check these folks out. http://raascogrips.com/

Actually, he did. Unfortunately, I had to dig up this clip from Huffington Post since none of the conservative sites had it on there (although I did find several - including Fox News - that said he never called it an act of terror). A video clip of the press conference where he said the following quote is below. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/16/obama-boston-marathon-bombing_n_3092801.html -

I understand your point, but if this was really a distinct issue, then why would the FBI be doing the interrogation and announce that they are going to apply a public safety exception to the Miranda requirement? FWIW, this thread is epic!
