  1. Their website says they carry blade steels, but when I went out there they said the website isn’t correct.
  2. Thanks! I figured shipping steel would be expensive, but that may be my only option. I’ll definitely check them out. I did some forging several years ago at a local co-op that isn’t around anymore. There was always a supply of spring steel and bandsaw metal on hand and I never had to source any. What kind of grinder are you running?
  3. I’ve restarted my interest in doing some forging, but haven’t had any luck finding a local source for steel suitable for blade forging. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
  4. Yes, the focus tends to be on the more tactical knives, but I appreciate a traditional folder as well. I frequently carry one of my Victorinox knives depending on my needs. I used to have a really nice Boker folder that had beautiful stag scales. I loved that little knife and I have no clue what happened to it.
  5. And this is exactly what I knew would happen as soon as conservative commentators and the NRA got on their kick avoid demonizing the "mentally ill" following various high profile shootings. Once you start down that road, it can only lead to one place.
  6. I've had one for a couple of years and I'm happy with it.
  7. No, but what I will say is that I highly doubt there would be this kind of negative uproar had this been a Tea Party protest or pro-Second Amendment rally.
  8. Really? I don't recall anyone getting up in arms about the numerous other events that tie up traffic in town by blocking roads and sidewalks. Tell you what, let's break out the firehose sand plow through crowds while hitting people with flashlights at this year's Christmas parade. Sounds like that's what we should be doing when Santa blocks traffic, right? How about the Vol Walk? Screw those jerks for impeding the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic!
  9. Wow... What a thread. Folks disagree with a protest group and the dominant attitude is to shoot a them with beanbag rounds, turn fire hoses on them,"run them down" with your car, and hit them with a flashlight should they touch your car while you plow through the crowd. And you wonder why they are pissed off and feel like society is targeting them unfairly with violence. And you also wonder why people portray gun owners as a bunch of overly aggressive douchebags.
  10. I also have a Marbles 701SB Camp Axe that I forgot to add to the pic. Both are roughly the same price, but I think the Husqvarna is a much better hatchet for the money. In fact, it's not even a contest in my mind. The handle on the Marbles is far inferior, the balance sucks, and I'm virtually certain the steel is lower quality than on the Husqvarna. I am a huge fan of the Wetterlings and Gransfors hatchets, but for the money I just don't think you can beat that Husqvarna. If I had to get rid of my hatchets and could only keep one, I think it would be the Wetterlings. It's large enough for more heavy chopping, but not so large that it becomes burdensome to carry.
  11. Just one more reason I am not an advocate for open carry. I think it's easy to point to multiple reasons why it's a bad idea. I'm also highly certain many places have posted their businesses specifically in response to these people who choose to OC, most of whom I believe do it for attention.
  12. I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but my brief search didn't yield a positive result. So I am getting ready to SBR a lower and planning to do a .300 BLK upper on it. I know I put that in the block on the form, but am I correct in saying I can legally put another upper on the rifle in a different caliber as long as the barrel and OAL is greater than that listed for the .300 upper listed on the paperwork? I ask because I already have an 18" upper in 5.56mm I plan to use with the upper as well assuming I can swap calibers. Am I correct?
  13. I will get some pics uploaded of the sheaths once they are done.
  14. I had all of these out today to make some sheaths for my Etsy shop and felt the need to get a group photo. From left to right is the Husqvarna 13" Hatchet, Gransfors Bruk #410 Mini Hatchet, Wetterlings #115 Hunter Hatchet, Gransfors Bruk #415 Wilderness Hatchet, and Gransfors Bruk #420 Small Forest Axe. Although I bought these primarily for making sheaths, they do get some use as well. It goes without saying that the Gransfors tools are simply works of art, but the prize for the best handle goes to the Wetterlings with it's super grain that is parallel and very tight. My favorite for size, weight, and functionality is probably the GB Wilderness Hatchet. The GB Mini is a super cool little cutting tool that I think, in the right hands, can easily take on many tasks commonly reserved for a knife. I've owned the Wetterlings the longest and I've given it plenty of use for splitting logs for a campfire, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Since the bit is ground a little thicker than the GB hatchets, it tends to be my go-to hatchet around the house and when car camping. For the money, the Husqvarna is the best bang for your buck since the head is Swedish steel forged by Hultafors Bruk and is fitted to a good quality hickory handle. I think one would be hard pressed to find a better hatchet with the quality and features it has for less than it's $40 price tag.
  15. So wait... you're saying you purge on your pork products?!? That is NASTY!
  16. Yup, it's a cool knife. I've thought about selling it a couple of times, but it's such a unique piece of art, I just haven't been able to let go of it. I really need to find a way to properly display it instead of keeping it tucked away in my gun safe.
  17. You don't purge your body on cops though, right?
  18. Well crap. This was from the other day. I guess I can put my guns and gear back in the safe. I thought we were calling out the militia or something.
  19. I've had this knife for a few years and pulled it out today while going through my gun safe. Since I had it out, I thought I'd share some pics of it. It is a handcrafted knife made by Ken Largin of Kelgin Fine Cutlery. It's made with a Damascus steel he had made using material from the Campo del Cielo meteorite that landed in Argentina around 5,000 years ago. The handle is reconstituted stone and springbok horn with an ammonite buttcap. There is a small piece of the meteorite in the photos next to the blade. Overall length is about 8 inches and the blade is about 3.75" long. I received it in trade for some custom sheath work, but the funny thing is that I never got around to making a sheath for it. Ah, well... Like the old saying goes, the cobbler's children have no shoes.
  20. I ended up contacting Spike's again, sent the photos, and the had me send the upper back to them. They totally rebuilt it, test fired it, and sent me the brass. You may want to contact them with photos.
  21. Yup. That's broken. Good to hear they are taking care of the repairs.
  22. Fortunately, the majority of reader comments I read were critical of the author's nonsensical argument.
