My Dad's old Python was and still is THE most accurate pistol I ever shot... ever.

Thanks go out to Wileecoyote for pointing me to Nodak Spud in pursuit of an AR serialed #417. While on the hunt, I came across another link to RetroBlackRifle.com and learned what a Colt 703 was... the 1st short piston AR in the late 1960's. Check it out...

Me too. I'll keep my old model 65 with laser grip.

M1 Garand rebarreling near Clarksville/Nashville.
SmokyBaer replied to espacef1fan's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Ronnie Morris is an M-14 smith in Nashville. When I was at his shop, i'd swear there was a multitude of other different actions laying around. I see no reason he couldn't do that work. He certainly has all the tools required. -
I'm anxious to see what the OP ended up getting after a month of chewing on the info... The DW fits all the criteria set but the new Springfields have some nice lines. Still believe if a fella is patient a score on a used Baer Premiere II is the best deal out there. Last year I found several for 1500. I think this year LB bumped their prices a lot tho. So much for a best value on high enders. Took two seconds to search GunJoker and found this right here in TN!! http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=465732817

I've had a Miculek 308 on backorder from Brownells for a while now and got tired of waiting. Just ordered a "Little Chubby". My son-in-law put me on that one and showed me a couple videos. Really looks promising. Got mine from a place called Ratworx. Hopefully, it'll be here for my Christmas present. :x:

Just ordered a Miculek 308 brake... One of the best recoil reducers made, they said. Gotsta try it. They wouldn't lie, right?

Kinda what I was thinking. BTW... Loved the bobtailed DW I had so much that I tailed a couple pistols and later bought a Kimber Pro with their version. They definitely feel good to me and at the end of the day that's what counts. Before you whack your handle off, make sure that's the right one to do it to.

The fit and finish of the Wilsons are top tier... There are peers but nobody is putting them a clear second place. Shooting the Wilson and Baers are a distinct pleasure. What I like is the last thing you see in the sights as you shoot has a hole in it. They are accurate! I sold my Wilson in favor of keeping my Baer only because it was too pretty to drag around and I was not shooting it. Baers don't have that problem... they are workers. Plenty folk run Wilsons and wont have anything else. There's a reason for that. Especially if your life depends on it. That said, out of all the Kimbers I have had, only one has been able to chase the Baer in accuracy and it is ammo dependent. My 30 year old custom comped Springer will shoot close to it too. Had a Gold Cup that I thought was a great shooter but the Wilsons and Baers eclipsed it. When the Baer runs Golden Sabers, nothing will match it. One hole accuracy on my good eye day... amazing to say the least. I'm rambling it feels but the point is, there is a difference in the top shelf 1911s IF and only IF you can hold and shoot that difference. Otherwise, expensive bragging fodder.

Well there ya go... if Bushmaster had not built the trigger, the bad guy could not have pulled it. Makes perfect sense. NAW!! :wall:

Jus me, but I see no difference in blaming user-error for moving a mat that now sticks an accelerator and putting 3 pounds of junk on a keyring causing it to flip itself off. Both instances have the companies scurrying to cover their assets by blaming somebody besides themselves. Granted, the airbags blowing up in your face is more in line with Remington's hairy discharge problem. The problem there is nobody else to use the blamethrower on so they gotsta swallow hard and eat it. None of those companies did an instant recall when they first found the problem. In my opinion, there are no "Good Guys" in corporate imaging just the lawyers and fanboys that want us to believe the :poop: they are shoveling out. Not that I'm bitter or anything, jus saying, "Who can you believe in these days?"

Fantastic first build... Shows u done your homework.
-
All those manufacturers have "blood on their hands"... even Toyota with the accelerator issues a while back and now the airbag thing that nobody fessed up with until they got busted. "Oh yeah, we meant to say something bout dat but..."

Had 3 Kimbers... Kept the one that shoots tight like my Baer and Wilson. There are differences in each and every pistol. If yours shoots right, keep it!

If I could get serial #107, 417 and 910, I'd definitely be in for all three sets.... without doubt! Odds of that is slim, so I am a definite maybe for one TGO set.
-
Agreed... They need to break out the old drawings and do a retro.

Sounds like "Hometown Gunshop" does not have your best interest at heart. They can make a profit on anything they sell so what's the reason for being picky on what they offer? Strongly advise shopping elsewhere and not compromising what you want. DW 1911s have top shelf quality and have some of the best fitted slides of all the mid-priced pistols I've seen. Trigger was awesome too. The older ones were full of Ed Brown components but I cannot say that for the newest ones from CZ. Just don't know. Only issue I ever had was a front sight being the wrong height for my sight picture but that was an easy fix.

The 1911 is my favorite by far but I have to agree if the owner is willfully neglect in his/her maintenance, it's gonna choke. It ain't rocket science to clean your weapon ever few hundred rounds and I don't mean a deep clean either. A 1911 will run great by chasing with an oil soaked bore snake ever so often, smearing a tad of grease on the barrel and slide then follow with a quick wipe down. Believe me, I tried to like a Glock once and I still have it mainly because I know there has to something I can do to make it more reliable like my 1911s. Reason I say that is I go thru a bunch of different ammo, some good stuff and but lots of cheap plinking stuff too. My Glock hates Wolf and Lawman but loves WWB. Has to be hard primers because it just clicks, no bang. Same ammo runs just fine in my clunker 1911.

Oh yeah, they are real... M14E2. Originally a squad machinegun stock as issued in 1963 but found favor amongst other uses later on. -

Just received an old time split ARMS18 scope mount for her. Anxious to get out to the range and see what she will do. -

That was a GunJoker ricochet... Fella sold the one I bidded on and I asked if he had more. He replied there was about seven left. He sent some pics and I jumped on the one that had the most figure to it. Really sweet stick. Tight fitting too. -
I am a huge fan of DIY when you can. Here's my all time favorite trigger upgrade... Tactical ll 4 pound with relieved hammer. Dropped in and performed flawlessly on four different 1911s. Hard to beat, IMO.
