  1. Aside from the firestarter and the squared off back end it looks a lot like the Gerber Infantryman knife that I have. This is by far my favorite knife: http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/products/MOD854.html serrated back and small portion of the blade, handle feels great in the hands, beats the crap outta any Gerber or Benchmade that I have.
  2. Thing's are kind of boring around the house and slow at work, so I've decided to take about a dozen of my H&K magazines and Duracoat them in various patterns and designs. I've got a vynil cutter so as long as I can get a vectored image of a design or pattern I can have it cut and applied to make the pattern. ***I know posts are useless without pictures, they will come once the magazines are finished.*** What would you like to see have done? I was thinking and I have the paint to do the following: 1. Desert Tri-color 2. Desert Storm Choco-chip 3. Urban Style Tri-color (Black, Grey, White) 4. Woodland 5. Multi-cam As much as I don't like doing the digital pattern it does seem to turn out very good. Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas for other patterns or designs to incorporate? Like I said I'm bored so I'm up for pretty much anything.
  3. I went there looking to re-supply on some ammo. Didn't find anything that caught my eye, the prices were no different than what I can find at Tennessee Gun Country. I was looking for .30 Cal Carbine in particular and they ranged between 25 to 28 a box of 50. I was offered a deal of 23 a box if I bought 5 or more boxes, I don't shoot my revolver that much and with my recent trips the wife wasn't fond of me spending too much. I got there at 3 today and the vendors were packing their goods up by 3:30, very disappointed, guess they didn't want to be there.
  4. I have these 2 from 2a-gear.com, price isn't bad at $16:
  5. Yea I've been looking on there, I wish they had some kind of alert email that went out on desired parts once they were in stock like Midwayusa or even gunbroker.
  6. I'm not allowed to part with it, it's a co-worker's and it was his dad's first rifle and I offered him a grand for it in as is condition with the scope, but he said nothing would pry it from him. I'll be calling Jack First Gun Shop in SD to see if they can help me, thanks for the tip DLM.
  7. First off I'm supposed to be working and the rifle is sitting in the truck. It's a Winchester Model 52B I'm pretty sure. It is in need of a new bolt (since it doesn't have one) and a magazine or two (again since it doesn't have any). Question is does anyone have an old bolt or magazine sitting around? Does anyone know where I can purchase either of these? I'm wanting to get this rifle right. It also has a crazy a$$ scope on it, the only markings I found on it was "Telescope M82" and the SN. Any help with this is greatly appreciated, I want to get this rifle right. Thanks, GR32
  8. I own both, can't beat the DI but the Piston is just fun and the clean up couldn't be easier. Voted Piston for overall clean up, and it's fun watching my wife shoot it.
  9. This thing is pretty cool, wonder why I hadn't stumbled on it and earlier. Everyone should do it, give you an idea of potential shooting partners out there.
  10. Great post, I like my XD-45 as well, it has always been a great pistol and like you had said it is tame enough to be my wife's favorite, that was atleast until she shot the Beretta 92FS that I got for my Dad. I'll be keeping an eye out for the Glock 36, I think that is the pistol I want to get for my wife's side of the bed. Hopefully I'll still be in country or state for that matter when or if you post it.
  11. I want to see that kid walk around with all that in his pants. Demeanor has a lot to do with it as well. A kid carrying a gun when he's not supposed to is going to be nervous, like a drunk driving home he's going to be extra careful.
  12. My .30 Cal Carbine Blackhawk stock: With Hogue Mono Wood Grip in Gancola Alves Wood: My XD-45 after some boredom and time consuming duracoating:
  13. Yea, about the kits. that's how I started, the compressed air cans are crap so get a compressor, I started with a 3 gal Craftsman and I now have a 13 Gal Campbell Hausfield and I'm thinking of upgrading to a 20 gal Campbell Hausfield. The air brush that comes with it doesn't even make a good paper weight, I went to Hobby Lobby and got a single action Paasche air brush, I've also got a HVLP Kobalt spray gun. The pattern is nice, it's just cut vynil, the same thing that I do with my cutter now. One thing to keep in mind is prep time, the more time you spend on prep the longer your camo will last. The Duracoat is great and I really enjoy doing it, when I get work, my day job keeps me from it quite often though. If you ever have any questions feel free to email me I'll try to help, ccampbell85@gmail.com .
  14. Erik, It's not difficult, just time consuming and a general knowledge of how to airbrush is nice as well. I know that I have around 700 in tools and what not just for duracoating (media blast cabinet, air compressors, compressor accessories, vynil cutter....) not to mention all the tools for specific weapons to take them apart and what not. The nice thing about the poly guns is they don't have to go in the blast cabinet, you just have to rough up the plastic a little with a green SOS pad. The slide I would put in the blast cabinet to get the best results and the crushed granite I use leaves the surface already roughed up. After that it's just surface preparation, proper paint mixture, camo design and cure time. With the multi-cam since it has so many colors it takes on average 20-25 hours to do a pistol, 25 to 30 hours for a shotgun/bolt action and about 35+ hours for an assault rifle. With fewer colors it will take less time, having a vynil cutter will cut down on time as well, single colors will take a couple hours after prep time and spray. Greys, here's a few of my other posts for you to look over: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/long-guns/37225-showing-off-few-projects.html http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/long-guns/40652-just-finished-my-latest-build.html http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/long-guns/37492-starting-new-build.html and here is the back of my blackberry:
  15. Nice offer, that wouldn't even pay for 1 sheet of digital cut vynil. let alone the round-a-bout 20 hours of time it takes to paint that pattern. digital is a pain to do let alone layering 7 colors and all the fades involved. here's a glock with my standard Multi-cam finish, this one has all designs cut by hand (before I got my vynil cutter):
  16. I was in NC in Spring of 09 at a school and they had given us a couple of Nikon D2X digital camera's and told us to go take some stop action photo's, and me being the good person that I am had finished my AR build during the school and had brought down a few more toys as well. After 3 hours at the range and several hundred rounds later me an 2 friends ended up taking these sweet shots: That was my XD45 in a coyote brown two-tone duracoat before I did my Multi-cam Digital Duracoat on it, here's that if you haven't seen it: Enjoy, GR32 (EDIT: the AR has since gone through an optics overhaul. It now has an EOTech with an EOTech 4x Magnifier. It has also gotten a new paintjob, it's an orange tip away from looking like a plastic airsoft gun with it's satin black finish.)
  17. Not to sure where the Tokarev thing came from....anyways back to the original thread. I finally found my Hogue Mono Wood Grip, Allen's Gun Shop had one...the only shop in town that had one. It wasn't the Cocobolo wood that I wanted but it was the Goncalo Alves which has a good grain pattern. And to bring this thread out of the worthless realm for Alpha and all others out there he is the .30 cal Blackhawk with new mono grip and my Stoeger Coach Supreme: Enjoy, GR32
  18. I've been in a few military schools lately or out of the country so I have had to turn down numerous duracoat jobs since I didn't know when I was going to be back at the house. We'll I've got my vynil cutter up and running and found a beer mug sitting in the cabinet that I decided needed some sprucing up. This was my first attempt so it didn't quite go as planned. I had the media blaster running a little hot (80 psi was a bit much) and it started destroying some of the vynil overlays. Here's my first run at etching glass:
  19. I was visiting my parents in Ohio and dad and I went to the local shop that had an indoor shooting range to run through the pistols and shotguns. When we were done, like always, I browsed the pistol cabinets when I found a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Cal Carbine. Well I couldn't pass it up, I have a friend that has one and told me good luck ever finding another one, granted I know they are still made so it is something that can be ordered, but for $445 it was mine. One thing that I'm looking for is some decent ammo, where can I get like UMC or something other than Black Bear in the Nashville area? The next thing that I am looking for is a Hogue Mono Wooden Grip, where can I get one without ordering online? I also wanted to put it out there that if you haven't gotten the chance to fire one of these you're missing out. Any help with the ammo or grip is appreciated.
  20. Below are my three builds, all fairly smiliar, built out of boredom or to try out new items. Some of the parts that I like out of these are the Sun Devil lower reciever, can't go wrong with a DPMS LPK, DPMS or RRA Chrome BCG, the Adams Arms Piston, Magpul MIAD pistol grip, YHM Diamond One Peice Free Floating Rail, VLTOR MUR-1A Upper, Sabre Defense Barrels, LMT SOPMOD 2 Buttstock and a good EOTech. There are a lot of different companies represented on these rifles, if there are any questions I can do a parts rundown for each. All have a 14.5" barrel with a pinned flash hider, I went with a 14.5" since it looks better to me and I know I can reach out a few hundred meters with one, anything out past 500m I'd rather be using a bolt action anyways. All three rifles were Duracoated by myself and the designs/graphics were hand cut. Here's the pictures:
  21. A steady hand and an almost OCD approach to everything tends to help when doing these projects. [EDIT] Murgatory, I didn't want to finish the tops of the mags since I didn't want them to start wearing away and having to refinish them later. The tolerances aren't bad and they don't hinder the performance of anything. I have the mag release completely covered and there are some fairly tight tolerances there and I have no problem with anything sticking in there. Once the mags are in the mag well the unfinished portion doesn't show.
  22. This is the latest build, not too bad 4 AR's in 2 years and throw a deployment in the mix getting in the way of progress. Here's a quick parts rundown, Sun Devil Lower filled with DPMS parts, Magpul MIAD, Magpul front and rear MBUS, YHM Diamond 1 peice FF Rail, MI rail height gas block, Tangodown foregrip, DPMS chrome bolt, Badger latch, 14.5" chrome lined Del-ton barrel capped with a YHM Phantom 5C1. Here's the gun porn: The magazines (both sides) from left to right on second picture; SF unit patch, SF cross arrow skull and Punisher skull: Rifle close-ups: All images were drawn onto 3M painters tape and cut by hand and the paint color is Duracoat Magpul Flat Dark Earth, the darker tan has some black mixed into it and the lighter has some white mixed into it to get the contrast.
  23. I had a little time off from work thanks to the flooding here in Clarksville. I decided to try my hand at duracoating a digital pattern. I went with a Digi-Multi-cam pattern...not sure if I'll ever do it again. It was extremely time consuming. Here's the pics, I'm looking for some criticism so feel free.
  24. TF we call people decked out with the latest tactical gear "Gear Queers" same concept. In my collection, the Black AR is what happens when I'm 600 miles away from my wife and she says she's "I don't want to hear about it anymore" when it came to me considering the build, so I stopped talking about it and just did it. It still gets brought up constantly.
