  1. Congrats on your purchase and welcome to TGO.
  2. I have the .30 cal Carbine. It's a blast to shoot...when I can find brass cased ammo. if you're looking for good bulk ammo and want to stick in TN check out TN Cartridge Company (Tennessee Cartridge Co. - Ammunition Manufacturer), I've been shooting their stuff through my Uberti .45lc and it's been great.
  3. If were going to talk about charging handles. Doesn't anyone use a PRI GasBuster or a Badger Latch? I love both of those.
  4. Welcome to the gang
  5. I've had a MATech on mine now for 3 years and never taken it off. I've had no problems, of course everything with a thread gets put on with a torque driver. The VTAC is where it's at. I've been to the Mid-South Self Defense Shooting combat rifle and pistol course twice now and the first time was with a single point and the second was with the 2 point and the 2 point VTAC worked out a hell of a lot better. And the QD attachment is nice if you need to get out of the sling in a hurry.
  6. Craig, You need to find a Ciener .22 conversion. I have a friend with one and they are by far the best I've shot.
  7. Forget the single point, I have them on my guns and I've actually went back to a VTAC 2 point sling. Great friction strap on it and gets it out of the way easily when you transition and it will keep it nice and secure then you are making a mad dash for some cover. If you go with the 2 point, get a QD attachment on the front rail so you can get out of it easily if need be, and pending the buttstock you can get a QD for that as well. If you don't like the Magpul BUIS PM me I have some MATech 200-600m adjustible rear sights laying around from previous builds that I can send you. I may also have a Tangodown foregrip in the parts bin, I'll have to look. It's a little fatter and longer than the KA with internal battery storage and a plate that slides out for a pressure switch.
  8. I usually pick it up, atleast what I can find and give it to GunTroll. I don't reload and my wife says I have too many "hobbies" as it is.
  9. So I'm taking in on trade a Puma model 92 lever action. I have only seen pictures of the rifle and it looks good to me. The wood looks good, it has high-vis fiber optic sights on it, an 18" ported barrel and is chambered in .454 Casull. Included in the trade is a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull/.45LC as well. I know enough about the revolver, so I'm good there. My question is, is this rifle worth a damn? Is it going to be reliable? If not, what normally breaks on it? In .454 Casull is this going to be accurate out to say 100 yards/meters? Does anyone have one in this caliber? If so, how do you like shooting it? Thanks in advance.
  10. I thought this was going to be serious at first...I hope the message gets out to the masses.
  11. 100+ views, I guess no one was a fan of the final results. I personally think it was a great refinish with some good color choices. I personally enjoyed how the etchings on the Star turned out, we should of had a before picture of the etchings. I need to get better at that. Fashion statement or not, if it took all my guns being my wife's favorite color to get her to shoot, I'd consider it, thankfully she likes black and stainless on her guns. I can't wait for the next one. Graycrait is a great guy and very knowledgable...for those of you out there that didn't already know that.
  12. Looks good to me. You will have to let us know how the dip holds up once you get out and start beating around the woods. Dolomite is right, I use a vinyl cutter to lay out my patterns so it's an hour or 2 in front of a computer to set it up. Then the spray it is another process, I can get up to 2 colors done a day. So at what looks like 5 colors, you saved yourself about 2 extra days of work. I can't really tell any errors on the stock unless I stare at it for a while...hopefully the coyotes won't have too much time to criticize.
  13. It was blasted at about 105psi to knock the chrome down to prep the surface, I used a crushed granite for media. To get rid of the etchings I used a Dremel with a grinding wheel (green stone) and a careful hand. It was degreased and dried completely and coated with Cerakote in a Blue Titanium oven bake cure. It was an enjoyable project and seeing it in person, the pictures don't do it justice. It looks awesome with the color combination in the light. Good color choices.
  14. I'll help, this is a cropped picture of the before from another thread that graycrait has. It was great meeting you and talking with you graycrait, this project was enjoyable. Thanks again for the projects, my wife was equally as happy as I am about them. I can't wait for the next Star.
  15. Scrap the Glock and go buy a Sig or a 1911...better yet a Sig 1911.
  16. Better than my wife's wish list. She wanted a Gold Desert Eagle for a while, but she's happy for now laying claim to my Sig P226. Nice choice on her part. SA revolvers are all that I have and I couldn't be happier with them.
  17. Haha, these are the after...nice try at a ding though. As I said in the original post, what I recieved was a rusty frame in the white and a slide that was 2 different shades of blueing and a ziplock back of small parts.
  18. I've narrowed down my Surefire stock to a X300 and now the L75. Dad ended up with 2 my my Millennium weaponlights and I've sold 2 of them and I've lost 3 of the Z2 lights. I've used the M910 series before, just seemed kind of bulky and I had to go back to a KA foregrip, now a Magpul AFG, and a X300 or M3X.
  19. I was talking about this little guy: Surefire L75 Infrared Laser Sight And you will have to let me know how you like the single 123 battery, I'm old school I guess, all my EOTechs still run on AA's.
  20. What you need is my Surefire IR laser that I've got sitting around. It's got a nice picatinny rail mount and a pressure switch. I'll even throw in a Tangodown dark earth foregrip or a KA black foregrip. The rifle looks good though, I need to get out and shoot mine it's only been about 4 months since I shot it last.
  21. My friend handed me his 1911 project to refinish it. It wasn't in the best of condition, the frame had some rust on it, the slide had standard blade sights and the finish on it looked like it had been blued and then someone did a DIY blueing to repair it. He picked the colors, not my choice but I think it turned out very well. It's a Caspian frame and a Colt slide, and I know nothing about the guts of it. On to the finish since that's my doing; the slide and all small parts were done in a custom mix of Graphite Black and Blue Titanium, the frame was done in Blue Titanium and the barrel, barrel bushing and operating rod were left alone. Here are some pictures, the close up is my attempt at getting a contrast shot. Here's the pictures, enjoy. It does have a serial number, it's been masked. EDIT: for Graycrait, It's all Cerakote. And yes I sand blast the old finish off. I like a clean unflawed surface or a fresh parkerized job only. I don't like the idea of any flaws between what I do and what someone else has done.
  22. I've got the funds...just not the permission from the boss. I've already bought my limit on guns for this year according to her...5 is too many according to her. But then again she won't have to know...I'll call it "Charity Work".
  23. I can't even begin to tell you how many poles of mine that my Grandfather lost. In highschool he and I used to go to pay lakes in and around Cincinnati and enter the carp and catfish competitions (biggest fish of the hour, biggest fish of the night, biggest fish of the week). There were numerous surf rods that he forgot to set the drag on before putting them in the PVC pipes I used for rod holders. Good on her though managing to get 2 before losing the pole, I guess third time is the charm for the fish...but now he's dragging around a fishing pole. I can't wait for my daughter to get old enough to go fishing and shooting.
  24. See that's the other way around for me. Dad came to visit this weekend and dropped off a few 22lr Rifles for me to take to GunTroll for work and went home with my Cattleman .45LC, Little Ranger .22lr, Ultra Compact V-10 .45acp and he tried to give back the .30 cal carbine Blackhawk but got to keep that anyhow. I would say keep them both, I know if my dad gave me a gun it would never leave my hands, and the few he has you'll never see for sale.
  25. It is, says "The worst gun review ever done on Youtube" at the beginning and "Can you count how many incorrect gun references I made?" at the end.
