  1. For a little while in 2010 there was a gathering at Owl Hollow. It was a bit of a drive, but it was a good time. I would like to see something like that again. I would be down either at OH or MCSC. It'd be a good excuse for my wife to go shooting again and drag my daughter along for a little .22 fun.
  2. ^^I'd go with this one, but then again I'm kinda partial to giving work to Brandon.
  3. I saw the commercially produced ones and thought, why buy what can be made for less. My first 2 were done for $7.42 for all the supplies, Brownells sells 2 for $8 and another $6 shipping. It is all rubber coated and the ends have been rounded so I doubt it will do anything to the barrel of any of the pistols.
  4. Well we can get the wife's together to run them through a fun day of torture. I've got a few my wife hates to fire or flat out refuses to fire. Mainly my 454 lever, my steel skeleton stocked AK and my Enfield in 303 British and she's a little weird about shotguns, she loves to shoot the Mossy Tac Cruiser, the 535 and the coach gun but won't touch the Winchester 97, all being 12 ga. Still though I'm glad she has taken an interest in shooting, and it's good to see that there are other wives that are joining their husbands at the range.
  5. ^^This, I was going to suggest this place but was beaten to it. I have handled a few from them and they all seem to turn out good.
  6. That's some good shooting. My wife will only shoot my AR's and the .22's. Her favorite is (now hers) a 10/22 scoped w/ bull barrel, but I've got 4 so I can share.
  7. Dehumidifier works good as far as I can tell. I've only had the safe for about a month now. I've been looking for something to keep the safe neat and clean and easy to access. I'm picking up the rest of my guns from my parents at Easter and getting a few back from MCC soon as well, so there will be more pistols cluttering up that shelf so I can only figure on making more of them and getting another pistol rack.
  8. I've been looking at the pistol hangers that slide on a safe shelf and hold the pistol by the barrel. Well I had some scrap steel rod laying around and started bending until I got the shape down and had tension on everything to hold the pistols and then rounded the rods ends and wrapped everything with wire shrink wrap. My first 2 were just guesses about length, but I found some pistols that would work in them. Here's some of the pictures: The most difficult one was making the bends for a reverse hold that I had to do with the Ranch Hand, I also had to make a small hook to hold the back end, it was just too much for the 3/16" rod. The .454 Super Red Hawk is a bit too heavy too. All the hangers were made of 3/16" steel rod, I think either 12 or 14 gauge and covered in black shrink wrap. I bought 3 rods and went through about 5 small packs of shrink wrap all of which cost about $25. Pretty cheap and I still have enough left over for about 1 or 2 more hooks.
  9. I sent the property manager an email a bit ago addressing my issues with what's been going on around here. The property is supposed to be maintenance free, that's why my wife picked out this place. I'm only usually home about 4 months total a year, so having something easy to take care of it nice with her in school full time and a 3 year old. I know I was going to end up screwing myself on certain things by getting into an area with a HOA, but they seem to be everywhere anymore. My next house will be in the middle of nowhere, outside any city limits, no HOA and my wife can come live there if she wants.
  10. Anyone else have to deal with these clowns? When we moved into our neighborhood we were told we have a home owners association with a monthly fee, fair enough especially with what they were supposed to offer. My wife and I were told that they take care of the outside of the buildings. The siding, roof, landscaping, the pool, clubhouse and playground. Well since moving here 3 years ago the fee has went from $95 to $110 thanks to the jokers in GA taking over the contract. The yards are anything but maintained. Up until this past Monday the grass out front was about 6+ inches long. The shrubbery out front hasn't seen any kind of clippers last summer...when I was home to take care of them. The mulch in the landscaping hasn't been changed/redone in about 2 years. We've had about 4 different lawn care companies in the last 3 years and each one seems to do less and less and a more horrible job than the last. We were told that the shrubbery was on us to maintain as well as the mulch. The finish they have on the front door is faded, the front of the house faces east. We asked what needs to happen to get it refinished, we were told that it was on us, but it needs to look like the rest of the neighborhood, but still no answer on how to make the metal door with wood texture look like wood. The deck has been on the second floor of the house since 2007 and it hasn't been treated at all. When asked who we need to contact for repairs we were told it was on us to do it since it was on the second floor. Fine by me, but I can't replace the deck with engineered wood because it would look different than the rest. Another thing, some of the planks of the deck are also part of the deck in the adjacent town homes with a privacy fence separating the 2. We were told that we had to coordinate with our neighbors if those boards needed to be repaired. After a year and a half of having the Dish satellite, we get a notice today that since it is attached to the deck railing, like so many others in the neighborhood, it needs to be removed because the railing is there for protection from falling and to add property value. So we are being told to have it moved...nothing saying where it needs to be moved to though. With all the stuff that is not being repaired or maintained that is supposed to be taken care of, I'm tempted to send them a bill for the cost of a pressure washer rental, the sealer, my hedge trimmer, the mulch, whatever it is going to take to refinish the door and the cost to move the dish instead of a check for the HOA fees. I remember Dad doing that when we rented an apartment as a kid, he would send the receipt for repairs to the owner with the difference for the rent, it always worked. Anyhow enough ramblings, I'm just tired of dealing with this overpriced BS here and wondered if anyone is getting raped by these HOA clowns.
  11. Looks like I talked the wife into allowing me to go...she gets to go shopping though...so it looks like I will just be window shopping.
  12. That must be the Joanne Fabrics edition. I think I'd be checking my pants for holes if my pistol was eating up that much fabric.
  13. I wouldn't wish a 1/16th inch digital pattern on anyone after doing that one. I think there was a good 25 hours if not more into the frame alone. For a rifle I would go 1/4 inch +/- 1/8th inch. I still like the pattern, or lack there of, that the sponge has. I may have to try that with the media I use, I'll be practicing the "marble" pattern I previously brought up on my daughters bike. It's a green and blue hotwheels bike, she wants pink and purple, what she wants she gets....most of the time, I still don't have any pink guns.
  14. Alloy guitar, digital stuff is a pain. If y want to do it right you have to make all your lines straight along the same axis. I have a few that are done, here is some digital and stenciled patterns for you to learn from: XD in digi multicam Rem700 in multicam
  15. Working on getting the maker. It's the little brother of a friend at work. I've sent texts to him, still waiting on something back. I'll find out tomorrow at work. Sorry I came to the table with nothing more than a picture.
  16. A guy I work with, his little brother makes knives as a hobby. I've always wanted a Topps Tom Brown Tracker knife for a long time. So jokingly I told my friend to have his brother make me one. This is the progress so far. I'm extremely surprised by this and was even more happy to hear what he was going to charge me. Since he is still working on his skill he is only charging me cost of material. He is making some grips for me as well. Not too sure what they will be made of yet though, I guess that's a surprise for me as well.
  17. You're going to need a bigger sponge...
  18. That's pretty good looking, just don't get it around any thinner or brake cleaner. I've got a few camo jobs under my belt. I like using vinyl patterns and netting and what not. I do like the look you got with the sponge. don't know how or if it could even be feasible do pattern that with vinyl. You should try the "marbleizing" technique you get with saran wrap.
  19. Well my parents were down visiting from Cincinnati this weekend and like always I took dad shooting. He doesn't get out much to do it unless I'm around. I took him to see the guys at D&T Arms, because I like stopping by there when I'm in the area. While I was there I picked up a Colt 1911-22. Story behind that is it's licensed by Walther and imported by Umarex...I think I got that right, David explained it to me. So thanks to the guys at D&T for another great experience and another nice weapon in the collection. Here it is: Dad and I added it to the batch of pistols we were taking to shoot at G&L in Hendersonville today. Right out of the box, no cleaning, a little RemOil and a box of mixed Federal, Remington and CCI's, it ran everything. It didn't like the CCI Stingers very much, they are for my 10/22, but it still ran them. It was fairly accurate as well, I was having a bit of an off day but at the 10 yard line (back of the G&L H range) it would hold a 3 inch group no problem. I'll get on my game and post some pictures of some good groupings later. On top of that, at the end of February I picked up a RIA 2011 Tactical 1911. I've been tinkering with it and it is still a work in progress. I just installed some new Novak sights on it last night that I had to try out. Since getting it it's been slightly polished so I could see how it looks, it's got a Wilson Combat extended slide release and oversized magazine release, a Smith & Alexander magazine well, an EFK Dragon compensator and some Raasco Dymondwood grips added to it. I still have some new springs to put into it, a new barrel, a nice cerakote graphite black finish on it and it should be good to go. It shoots great, still needs some sight adjustment and another trip to the range after that. Here is what I have so far, mind you it's not done yet:
  20. Dad is coming down this weekend, if we don't end up going shooting we may stop by to have a look around. My "gun fund" is depleted thanks to the new safe, impending tile floors and now a new microwave. Grunt, PM me with that you are trying to sell, I'll see how deep dad's pockets are.
  21. Well good on both Kittenger and Baumgarter, I hate heights. I have no problem climbing a mountain or jumping off a cliff for a rappel, but jumping out of planes still makes me nervous. It takes a special kind of guy to do that, there is a fine line that they must run on the verge of insanity.
  22. That is always a bad call to get. I've gotten a couple like that from my wife. Thankfully she was always driving her Escape at the time. She was on the Western KY Parkway and hit a Turkey...shattered the windshield. She didn't know what to do. I was furious, but it happens and I was glad it wasn't my truck. I've also gotten the call that she backed into someone who was also backing out at the grocery store...again in the Escape and not my truck. She knows that if she ever crashes or dents either my truck or her new Highlander that she may as well not come home for a while. She knows the pecking order around here....My truck, my guns, my daughter, myself, her....now that's a joke, but it amuses me.
  23. The most I've ever paid for a Sig was $350, and that was a P6, I'm about $200 into a P226. If you are thinking about moving back into the metal gun world you should look at Sarco, the have dirt cheap P226 and P228's, you'd just have to call them and see what they have in stock. Their prices on them are all under $450, granted these are going to be the older pistols, not the neat new tactical model.
  24. Looks nice, I like the old school look. It looks like you would use a flash hider though.
  25. I would like to see a video on the disassembly of this monstrosity. They can keep it.
