  1. The fog this morning kinda had the turkeys off. They didn't gobble much. Might get better later.
  2. I saw a video once of a coyote that came in a tore the head clean off a decoy. And yeah patching would be wierd.
  3. Hunting101, you said you shot your decoy once. My jake decoy is a blow up and I had to wait for the jake to get a couple feet away from it before I could shoot. I would've done the same thing you did.
  4. Hunting101, still a good bird though. Youall was talking about decoys. I use only a jake now. Because I had my decoys out in my storage building and mice ate a big hole in my hen decoy. Need another bad. Maybe some time this week I'll get one. The jake I killed the other day came right into the jake decoy. Killed him at 25 yards and think I hit him with the shell wad. It was laying right there beside him.
  5. I don't see that stuff anymore either. If you don't handload maybe you could find someone to load you a equivilant.
  6. Hunting101 is he a jake? I'm asking because his tailfeathers don't look even. But his beard and spurs seem a little long for a jake though.
  7. I had a friend of mine tell me once he had some decoys set up once and he saw a guy trying to sneak in close for a shot. He told me he didn't know if the guys eyesight was bad or what. The guy finally seen that they were decoys and walked off. My friend said he never moved but cracked up after the guy left.
  8. Does anybody know of any good 16 guage turkey loads? I've got an old Win. 37 that I would like to try sometime. It belonged to my father. I know I'm better off using my 12 ga. but I just wondered. Hey people use 20 ga. all the time right.
  9. I've got nothing against 4 wheelers but some riders are pretty destructive. I totally agree with youall on this. They can do a lot of damage in a short while. I've seen errosion that was started with 4 wheelers. Sometimes pretty bad.
  10. Have you heard the saying? "If the chick's got a veil the dude better bail".
  11. WD-40 maybe the hogs think they're turkeys. At least you got good hog hunting where you hunt. All the places I hunt there's no hogs. About 20 miles from me are hogs but I've not seen any sign or hogs here yet.
  12. Got a 14lb. jake 5" beard, 1/4" spurs this morning at 10:00. Sorry still can't post pics. I'm stupid or something. I don't know.
  13. Welcome and thank you for your service.
  14. I wanna do the same thing to mine. Its 7 years old and not worth upgrading or fixing.
  15. Had a nice gobbler coming in this evening about 6:30 and he was coming across a cattle pasture. He needed to come about 25 more yards. That would have put him about 40 yards. Anyway a Charlais cow started coming down the pasture and the gobbler turned and went over the hill. I didn't know they was afraid of cattle.
  16. Yeah KahrMan that looks good. But please don't walk around on public land with it.
  17. Sorry tried something didn't work..................
  18. Finally got one on the 15th. 19lb. 14oz., 10" beard, and 7/8" spurs. Killed him at 10:30 in the morning. Have trouble posting pics. Got one on s755.photobucket.com/home/roverboy_photos
  19. Yeah Bearman Morels/Dry Land Fish are great. This ain't been a great season for them though. Too dry.
  20. Yeah what you said about people putting something valuable on somebody else's property reminded me of something. About 15 years ago my wife's uncle found a climbing tree stand on his property and got it down and took it to his house. About a week later this guy drives up and wants to know what happened to his stand. My wife's uncle says. Who are you and you didn't have permission to hunt on me. Anyway the guy didn't go home with his stand. Some people are just plain old dumb.
  21. I used to shoot about 500-600 rds a year of .38 special and .357. I shoot a lot of 7.62x54 now(300-400 a year). About 200 of .30-06. 100 or so a year of 8mm Mauser. Just started shooting my 7.5x55 and .30 carbine.
  22. A friend of mine shoots at Bend of the River shooting range in Cookeville and sees a few guys shooting them and says they're lots of fun. I always thought it would be fun in a rifle.
  23. Clutepc and hunting101 good birds guys. Glad you gottem. I went this morning and heard several gobbling. About 7:15 I heard a shot about 300 yards from me. Scared the crap out of me. Didn't know anybody else was around. It was my neighbor. He got a jake with about 4" beard. I just don't think I'm good at turkeys anymore..............
  24. Wanna talk about terrorists. What about William T. Sherman.
  25. I've not seen a lot of strutting birds but around here the birds aren't gobbling a lot now. They are gobbling a little on the roost and then flying down and not gobbling much after that. I think they are getting with hens.
