  1. Nice rifles everybody. I've got 3 WWII semis. My favorite is in my avatar. I tried to post it but, couldn't get it to work.
  2. Hope you find something that works good. My brother told me about a guy he knows that was telling him about a kid that had killed several with a .410 shotgun. The light loaded  20 gauge will work just fine for turkeys as long as you can get her a close shot. I've been wanting to kill one with my old 16 gauge for a long time. I've just been having a hard time finding some good ammo.
  3. The 200 gr. load in the woods is a thumper.
  4. I used to load a lot of .38 Spl. and .357 Mag.  I don't really count my time. Cast  bullets cost on average about 7 cents a piece, when bought in bulk. Powder shouldn't be to expensive but, primers would make the price go up. I like to have fun though. That's what I'm looking for.
  5. Yeah, I was fixing to say the same thing. A friend used to load a lot of .22 hornet and used mostly Speer 50 gr. TNT and similar bullets. He said they worked on groundhogs pretty good.
  6. My favorite too. You saw my avatar, right.
  7. As far as judging age, I'm not great at it. But, the 8 point buck I let walk by me was about 40 yards from me. I got a pretty good look at him and he had a thick neck and muscular body. He looked to be about 140-160 lbs. But, his rack was only about 15" wide and had short points, about 6" long or so. I don't think he was a 1 1/2 year old.
  8. I saw several deer Yesterday and Today. I saw about 8 does Yesterday and I think one other deer was a buck. This morning saw 3 bucks, a spike, 3 point, and a 8 point that looked like a 2 1/2 year old. I let'em all walk. And 3 does.
  9. Gamaliel is where I get mine too. I live about 15 miles from there.
  10. Hope you get a big ol hog with that little Ruger. Hope your old man is feeling great too. Just remember. Love'em while you got'em.
  11. I really don't know what to tell you on this because, they might have improved the basic action. But, I had a Mossberg 100 ATR that was a piece of crap. It shot great but, the bolt was built really cheap and I broke 3 extractors before I just sold the thing. The 3rd and last time I just fixed it and sold it. The guy thought he got a great deal. Maybe he did, because it may've never happened again. Please don't let me deter you on this. That's not my plan. But, I would look at the bolt and everything before I put down any money. They may've improved them a lot. By the way I own 2 Savage 110's. Love'em. I did look at a Youtube video with Ron Spomer and he liked the Patriot. He liked the stock and feel of it a lot. He does not like the way the bolt will open when the safety is on or off. I don't either but, he pretty much liked everything else. Just look one over and see. Sorry for the long post.
  12. Nice one man. I've hunted with my '42 1903 Rem. a few times but, haven't had any luck while I was hunting with it.
  13. Poor taters. Maters blow up pretty good too.
  14. I've got a old Spanish Mauser too, mines a .308 Win. I've killed a lot of deer with it over the years. but, this year I'm gonna use my Savage 110 .30-06 that I rebarreled . Its the first rifle I ever rebarreled and I'm anxious to break it in. Hornady 150 gr. handloads.
  15. A lot of hunters are wanting better quality deer, and I can see that it is working. But, I don't think we'll ever have the quality deer that Kentucky has. Please don't hate me for saying that. Just my 2 pennies...................
  16. I may be wrong on this but, didn't Heritage used to make centerfire calibers?
  17.  I killed a buck that weighed 90 lbs. dressed out. I used a Sierra 55 gr. spritzer loaded with 26.5 gr. Win. 748. I shot him through the ribs and got both lungs. He ran about 30 yards. I don't think personally I'd try a shot in the shoulder. The 60 gr. Sierra bullets might be ok but, you might try Gamaliel Shooter Supply. That's shouldn't be a real long drive for you. They might have something better. Winchester makes a 64 gr. soft point that is designed for deer sized game. Some of the .224 bullets designed for deer are expensive, like the Nosler Partition and so on. Let us know if you find anything or just use what you got.
  18. I didn't get to hunt yesterday evening but, went this morning and got in the blind at dark thirty and stayed till 11:00 and didn't see nothing. I was hoping I'd get to see the shooter from yesterday morning.
  19. Had 3 does and a definite shooter come in behind me this morning about 7:30. Could only see glimpses of the buck but, he was a dandy.
  20. Saw one doe yesterday morning and a lot of tree rats. Yesterday evening, saw one deer but, don't know what it was and a few turkeys. Just got in this morning because of a honeydoo list. Saw 5 does, one spike and one 7 point. Good luck to everybody.
  21. One of the guys at work took his nephew and he got a 7 point about 8:00am. One shot and he dropped him right there.
  22. I've done the deer stopping Meeeeeh before. Sometimes when your a little tore up you don't make good calls.
  23. Some of the guys at work were taking kids this weekend hunting but, I've not heard from them yet. I hope somebody has had good luck.
  24. What caliber is the 99?
  25. Its a model 60 right? Great little rifles. I've owned 2 of them. Hard to beat for the price. You got a good deal.
