  1. Right, Its not all that hard with a gun you shot a lot. I don't shoot handguns as much as I used to, but if you can see where your hittin', its a lot easier. I used to hit gallon jugs at 100 a lot. I would aim at the lid and hit the jug in the middle.
  2. I agree with Mike. The Rugers are tough as nails. I know a guy who has a MkII that has to have several thousand rounds through it.
  3. The .480 ammo would be expensive and even to reload it would be high. Like 1gewehr said the .44 is pretty good. A lot of people don't use it but the .45 colt loaded heavy in a strong gun like a Ruger Blackhawk or Bisley is awesome.
  4. Trekbike, it was with the original sights. I had the front blade all the way out of the rear sight. I was really lobbing it out there. Bob Munden on Impossible Shots on the Outdoor Channel used a S&W 29 .44 Mag. to hit a balloon at 600 yards. WOAH. Oh yeah, my Security Six is a blued model with 6" barrel. I used to do a lot of crazy shots like that.
  5. I'm not much on sporterizing either but they did make a lot of them. I had a '43 Izhvesk that looked like they milled out the reciever in about 30 seconds. Deep tool marks everywhere. Good bore though. I sold it to my brother who loves it. Oh by the way I've not hunted with my Mosins yet. I will though.
  6. I was wondering what was everybodys longest shot with a handgun? I'm not saying just on game but targets too. What did you shoot and caliber? My longest was 350 yards with a Ruger Security Six .357 and 158 gr. cast handloads. I hit a 55 gallon drum. Not on the first shot either. I think it took me about 4 shots until I heard the gong.
  7. You may get addicted.
  8. He might need to be culled. If he's mature his genetics may not be good. But he looks like he might not be mature. Its your choice.
  9. Yeah I hate to see something like that too. Where I grew up a few years ago a guy ran over a 10 point with a 19" spread. Big bodied deer too.
  10. If the light bullets shoot good they'll be good. Another thing about light bullets is the recoil is so light that you can sometimes see the hit on a groundhog, crow , coyote or whatever. I used to shoot my .223 a lot and with 40 gr. Sierra hp's I could see a groundhog fall in the scope. With 55 gr. I couldn't. What brand is the 30 gr. bullets you got?
  11. Saw another spike this morning. Seems like thats all I see this year. Maybe later I'll see something interesting.
  12. What powder are you using? Are you using a good taper crimp? A .45 needs a faster burning powder like Bullseye, W 231 , Unique, etc. I'm not insulting your intelligence. I just wondered why this is happening.
  13. Hornady and Speer bullets in all calibers I load. IMR4350, IMR4198, Hodgon H110, Herco, and W748 powders. I use mostly CCI primers in everything.
  14. Wildlife Management Area. There set up for hunting by the state. Seasons may be a little different from other areas or limits could be different.

    best load for 308

I've never loaded anything heavier than 150's, but I've got good accuracy from Hornady Spirepoints. My favorite .308 load is the Hornady 150 with 47.5 gr. 748 and a CCI 200. A Federal 210 match primer is a little better.
  17. Is that a Ithaca 37?
  18. A .223 is alright but a .22-250 is better. I've got a .223 in a Savage 110 and wish I'd got the .22-250. I bought the .223 because of cheap military brass. I found out later that the mil-surp brass ain't what its cracked up to be. If I had a pic of it, I put it on here.
  19. Looks like you found me. I was born and raised in Cumberland Co., Ky. I grew up in Peytonsburg. Its on your map.
  20. Conrad, I used to have a Curr/Black and Tan cross. He hated yotes and they hated him, but I could never get a shot. I was with him on a couple occasions when I was packing. I was either to far away or was afraid I'd hit the dog. Moss is in Clay County. Celina is the County seat. Moss is about 12 miles from Celina across the Cumberland River.
  21. The buck may be decent when he grows out some more.
  22. I don't know what the headstamp I but I do know its not Berdan primed.
  23. A friend of mine has somewhere between 75-150 rds. of brass for this monster. I know that .50 BMG brass can't be cheap. He wants to sell it. Any help will be appreciated.
  24. Jcochran88, I hope its not Blue Tounge. Thats some bad stuff. It hit here in '07 and we found some decent bucks dead. Several does too.
