  1. I didn't get to go all day yesterday or this morning, because my daughter got a bad stomach virus. I've been sitting with her. Maybe this evening I'll get to go. She seems to be on the mend. The deer around here seem to be dwindling down as far as the rut goes. They seem to be looking for food more. I missed a good buck about a week ago because my rifle was shooting about 10 inches high at 100 yards. Maybe I'll see him again. Good luck to everybody that went this morning.
  2. Thats a good'un for a first deer. What caliber is he using there?
  3. Well I've loaded that same bullet in .30-30, but never in my .308. It works good in a .30-30. I don't have a loading manual handy so I don't know what velocity your getting. They do load .30-30 type bullets in a .307 and I hear they work good. It might be a good load. Let us know if you get one with it.
  4. Oh, I really hate to admit it but I missed a good deer Monday evening about dark. I don't know if I just plain missed or if the scope is off because I've not shot it to check. He was a good one. Looked like a good 8 point or maybe better. It happens sometimes. Its the first Ive missed in several years.
  5. Well Guntroll, thats what everybody said it was that was killing some deer. Maybe it wasn't confirmed. I don't really know for sure.
  6. I've never used a .45-70 but it would have to be awesome. I've always used something around .30 cal. like .30-30, .308, .30-06, and 8mm mauser. A good scope under $200 shouldn't be to hard to find. Some people don't like Nikon's, but you could probably get one under $200. Theres a lot of cheap scopes but I'm talking from experience. You can't really trust a lot of the Tasco, Simmons and a few others. Also the .45-70 in a lighter gun will get your attention when it goes off.
  7. Yeah its really STRANGE this year. I know some areas have had some CWD die offs the last 2 or 3 years. Maybe thats it.
  8. I forgot about The Crazies!
  9. No we didn't get bumped. We've been in Unit a for a while now. I just don't know why we're not in the Quota hunts this year.
  10. Its kinda wierd, this year in Clay Co. we don't have a antlerless hunt. I don't know why, because its been a regular part of the season here for a long time. Oh yeah Greg good doe and nice Model 99.
  11. Yeah some bucks are spooked by grunt calls. Its strange you never see that happen on the huntin' shows. You mentioned the doe calls. Some people sware by the Primos Can. I've not tried one. I've got a old Lohman C'mere Deer. Its a doe call.
  12. Probably my favorites would be Return of the Living Dead parts I and II, Shawn of the Dead, and Zombie Land.
  13. I saw the buck that I saw during ML season this morning. He's awesome for where I hunt. Looks to be a 8 or 9 point with some tall points and good mass. He looks to have a spread a little wider than his ears. He was with a doe and she kept him back in the thick stuff and he never came out for a clean shot. When I saw him last time, he stayed in the thick. I should of grunted at him. Maybe I'll get him someday.
  14. I had to send my Mossberg 100ATR back to Eagle Pass,Tx. to get it repaired and the post office made me take out the firing pin.
  15. WD, thats a good deer man. I've never killed one that dressed that heavy. Some friends guessed my 9 point I killed last year at about 160. They don't have a scale at the check station I went to. Have you scored your deer?
  16. A Ruger Security Six 6" .357. I've had it since '86 and gave $150 for it. Its had probably 2000 rds through it and has always been accurate with about anything I shoot in it from light .38 handloads to full power .357.
  17. Well its deer season and my Turk 38 8mm is in the corner ready and loaded. All I have to do is push the bolt closed to put one in the chamber and flip off the safety. If that don't work I'll throw something at him.
  18. It oughta be a hog's worst nightmare.
  19. Wd40, Glad you got him. Nice deer there and heavy too. I've never killed one that heavy. What brand 150 gr. do you load in your .308? I've always handloaded 150 gr. Hornadys. I guess I've killed about 12-13 deer with them.
  20. I saw a really nice deer back in ml season and he has my attention. I hope I see him again, because he looks like he will score in the 140's or better.
  21. You got that right. I hunted Sat. and Sun. and I think I heard maybe 5 shots total.
  22. Well I think the weather the last couple of days really stinks as far as deer hunting weather. Maybe the cold front thats coming in this weekend will help some. I went this morning and hunted in a sweat shirt and my orange vest. Didn't need a jacket. And thought I was gonna get blew out of the tree.
  23. A friend of mine killed a 6 point in velvet when he was a kid that had no cojones.
  24. I'm afraid they may slow down some because its supposed to be a little warm this week. Its supposed to be colder by Friday though, so maybe that will rev thier motor a little.
  25. I saw about 20 turkeys and one doe walked within about 10 yards of me and never even noticed me and I was on the ground. I saw the doe at 10:15 and I saw 2 other deer at about 7:00 but couldn't tell what they was. I didn't hear many shots this morning and I was out till almost 11:00.
