  1. I've not seen many lately but have seen plenty of sign. A few people have heard some gobbling. I hope its a good season.
  2. I'm about to start casting some myself. I just bought a old Lyman 358156 mold and about to buy 2 more .30 cal. molds. What flux is everybody using?
  3. Wow I didn't know they were gobbling already. Did they sound like jakes or mature birds?
  4. I've reloaded since '87, but I've never casted my own bullets. A friend of mine has several molds that I'm thinking about buying. I'm gonna give it a try and see if I like it. I'm concerned about the wheel weights myself. Even some of the small tire dealers are using iron weights now.
  5. How expensive and difficult would it be to get the paperwork for a Sten?
  6. If my finances were a little better I would order one of these with hand select. I've not ordered anything in a long time. Southern Ohio Guns has been good to deal with. I ordered 3 91-30 rifles from them and got all 3 quick.
  7. I've been thinking about turkey huntin' myself. I can't really wait either. I got a new box call (homemade) that I want to try out.
  8. My brother had a Universal back about 20 years ago and it was a good shooter. I didn't know about the quality until I bought my '42 Inland. A lot of difference in quality, but a Universal still makes a good little rifle. I saw a Universal at a gunshow at Livingston and they wanted $350.
  9. I wear camo when I'm hunting, but I agree that you don't always need it. I do believe it works when turkey hunting. I like Mossy Oak, but usually buy what's on sale at Racoe's Outlet in Celina.
  10. I gotta admit I like'em, but some are a joke.
  11. Have you ever did any kind of taxidermy mount? If not what are the hides selling for?
  12. There's a lot of wierd restrictions. One is the crow season says you can only hunt them on Fri,Sat, and Sun. Another is the feral hogs on public land. Hogs do a lot of damage and you would think TWRA would let legal hunters hunt till they're blue in the face, but only legal during deer season by legal deer hunters. I even called TWRA and talked to a guy and he didn't really give me a answer. I asked why on public land why don't they let hunters kill all they want and he said " yeah they do a lot of damage." DUH.
  13. Your not alone on that. For the last 6 or 7 seasons I've let at least 7-10 smaller bucks walk and hopefully grow. I killed a 7 point this past muzzleloader season and so far thats all I've dropped the hammer on. I let a 8 point walk that looked to have a 16" spread. He should be nice next year. I let 7 bucks walk this season and have 3 more on trail cam pics that I've not seen. Just keep hoping that you get a good buck. If not good luck next year.
  14. I've done a little. Fur prices in this part of the country have been crappy for years. In the '70's prices were good and I can remember my grandpa getting $40-$50 for gray fox and as much as $25 for coons. Getting traps set somewhere where you don't trap somebodys stupid dogs is harder and harder. It is fun though.
  15. I love squirrel, but never did eat the brains. I used to hunt them a lot with a .22 and would take head shots if I could get it. I would give what I didn't want to my uncle and he would complain about the heads being messed up.
  16. Here in Clay Co. I don't see to many quail either. Biologists say that their populations rise and fall over several years for some reason that they can't figure out. As far as Grouse I don't see any here. When I lived in Cumberland Co. Ky. I would see a grouse every once in a while.
  17. I don't know anywhere around Murfreesboro, but look on www.aimsurplus.com and they have Prvi Partizan for under $14 right now. Call their toll free number and ask about shipping. I wouldn't think that the shipping would be to bad. You just don't see a lot of stores that keep commercial 7.62x54 in stock.
  18. Maybe she'll be good at trailing deer. My daughter's got a 3 yr. old Jack Russell and I tried her once on a deer that I shot and she showed some interest. I need to work some more with her.
  19. I know some on here like Tiffany Lokosky. But why does she always look like shes going out on the town when she's hunting? She's got makeup, earrings and her hairs fixed and everything. Kinda cheezy.
  20. Nice RC you got. I don't have a RC, but I got a '42 BCD K98K that I restored a while back. When I got it somebody had cut the stock down and I got another one for it.
  21. The old rifles will sometimes fire accidentally. A friend has one that was made in the '60's and had it go off a few years ago when he opened the bolt. Shook him up a little.
  22. Does anybody besides me watch the hunting shows like on The Outdoor Channel? If you do does any of them get on your nerves? I mean the actual hunting is great. Its the other crap that gets me sometimes.
  23. Yeah she still looks good. I don't think she's been dead long.
  24. Bendbolden, if you built it with 3 trees and big lag bolts it would be stronger. But if I used it after some time went by I'd check it over good.
  25. Like dats82 said build on lower branches that are strong. I built a stand once between 2 trees and it was a good stand but the wind twisted the heck out of it. I saw a pic of a stand in a magazine of a Ford van in a tree as a stand.
