  1. Most guys wouldn't sporter a rifle like that today. But, when it was probably done there was probably plenty of them. I agree somebody did a great job. Its a nice one.
  2. Very nice Jonnin. I like Mausers. I own 2 myself.
  3. Well most people myself included have used or use dogs but, I've heard of hunters calling coons. They are predators sometimes and will sometimes come to calls. Coons are nocturnal and I would think you would need a light any way you hunted them.
  4. Sounds like David Glass is breathing up a lot of good air.
  5. Wyatt, I agree with your above post. It says a lot.
  6. Yeah, I typed this fast and didn't notice the spelling. I do have to say some Walmarts suck.
  7. I don't go to Wally World much. I don't buy they're ammo either. I load most everything I shoot and .22 ammo I get at a real gun store. I got pissed back in the Summer this year when I tried to buy a small A/C from them and had a associate paged 2 times and they never came. I waited about 30 minutes too. I just don't have much use for'em.
  8. I need to purchase a good ladder stand in the next few weeks before M/L season. Bills have pretty much stripped the last few paychecks.
  9. I don't really care what my friends say. I told a friend at work(who's strictly 1911a1 shooter)that I was gonna get a Hi-Point .45 and he looked at me like I was gonna try meth. I told him American made, life time warranty and reliable. He still didn't like the whole idea. Now I mention it as often as I can, just to mess with him.
  10. If you could find a landowner that's got a hog problem, he can make you a designee. A landowner can allow 10 designees annually. Its........... complicated now.
  11. A guy at work has got a 9mm,.40,and a .45 and he said they are awesome for the price. No problems at all and he has shot them a lot too. Some of the people that don't like'em think that you have to pay at least $800 for a good gun.
  12. A friend at work was telling me about this a couple days ago.
  13. In my opinion a .223 will work on close shots but, I would use a premium bullet or at least a 60 gr. or heavier expanding bullet. I killed 2 with mine using a 55 gr. Sierra handload. I shot behind the shoulder, through the ribs. Both deer ran about 35 yards. One bullet exited and left a exit hole about the size of a nickel and the other bullet didn't exit but tore up the lungs. Its not my first choice but, will work with the right shot. I only used it because my .308 was needing some work and I didn't have anything else at the time.
  14. I'll admit it does get a little confusing with handgun hunting laws. Some states want you to use 4" minimum barrels and such. Ky., years ago wanted a 4" minimum bl. and 500 foot pounds muzzle energy. that probably don't apply in Ky. now because thet will let you use any centerfire. Its best to get a handgun in a good cal. and at least 6" barrel.
  15. I love what you did with it. I've got a 1903 myself that somebody bubbaed. The whole action is 1903 but, the barrel is off of a 1903a3. Its a good shooter though.
  16. Thanks DaddyO, intersting stuff.
  17. Yeah, ammo should be good for a long time. Just keep it in a dry place and it should be good. I store in military ammo boxes.
  18. Yeah, brass frames were used on the early lever rifles and carbines. They were black powder cartridges and low powered compared to anything today. I don't know what cal. the 1866 Win. (Yellowboy) was in. Probably .44 Henry or maybe .44-40. The Henry cartridge was very low pressure and velocity. Doc had a pretty neat rifle though.
  19. Dillon will probably remove the stuck case for you. They're a great company. So is RCBS too.
  20. Is the rifle a 1866 Win. or what? The barrel is way long. The round nose or flat point bullets would have a terrible B.C. but then somebody forgot to tell the old buffalo hunters that. Hmmmmm.
  21. All I know is I try and shoot older class bucks, and I don't leave the carcass in the woods to rot. I eat the meat and cherish the rack. I kill a few does too. I know that this thread didn't mean to piss a few people off but, it may have. I'm done with this thread.
  22. I used to hate'm pretty bad. It was because I had a lot of trouble hunting them. Now though I usually get at least 2 every season. I respect the wild turkey now. The tame variety (Butterball type) is a really dumb bird.
  23. Hornett22, I'll agree with that. But, all trophy hunters don't do that. It sounds like you are talking about poachers.
  24. I always drag out the whole deer. I've been a trophy deer hunter for a while, but I eat them too. I don't agree with hunters killing and then "trashing" the meat.
  25. Sick Bastard huh...........
