I have an older p226 9mm, and two newer p229s in .40 and 9mm. All are more accurate than I am. They do require more lube on the frame rails than some models but that's more of a learning point when cleaning/caring for than an "issue". Some who have owned more than I have will say that quality as slipped since the manufacture moved to the states, and I'll admit that the new p229s seem easily as well machined and finished as my older HKs(never had the joy of a NIB sig until recently) were out of the box, but they are by no means any less desirable to me b/c they were made in NH. They may not make as good safe queens as they once may have been, but the classic lines (p226, p229,p220,p227 ect) are still great shooters IMHO.

Yeah, it looks funny, but works very well for my mowers and equipment. The funnel is removable if it goes against your fashion sense. Available here.

I coughed up for the eagle safety cans at home. Metal with attached funnel worth every penny over the new plastic BS, I figure at $3+ a gallon it wouldn't take too many spills to make up the difference.

So you think your safe is safe?

I use a Gun Vault Nanovault 200 when away from home, but I upgraded the lock to an abloy protec that matches my home gun set and firmly attached them to vehicles. The whole setup is under $100@ so I could afford to duplicate it in all the cars and one with only a cable for use in hotel rooms. It's more secure than most b/c it has no spring tension securing it, and if you get a captive abloy lock you can't accidently leave it unlocked whith out leaving the key in it. Lock source Nanovault 200 Source Deviant did a rather entertaining look at firearm security failures. Deviant Ollam's Defcon 19 Presentation (NSFW language) -
Assault Rifle Not Used In Newtown

^This. Too many news outlets fail to verify the information they air with a second source. If it's only from one person "speaking on the condition of anonimity" it's more than likely bullshit. -
Yep, he works as a security guard at Centennial Hospital, which means I see it a lot more often than I would like as well. :)

http://news.vanderbilt.edu/2013/01/gunshot-study-inspires-violence-prevention-program/ Sadly the full journal article is currently subscription only, but I've requested a copy. Main points are that after interviewing the victims the conclusion was that anger managment and conflict resolution education was the best couse of action. I know "mass shootings" are what the media are all about ATM but statitistically this is the population that needs our attention to reduce voilence resulting in gunshots admitted to the ED.

I think the sticker was $68k IIRC, my price was, well. . . lower. Hard to justify a truck though when I can't park it at work, and I can borrow an f350 anytime to tow my trailer. The beetle gets me to and from work in rough weather no problem(and fits in the parking garage) and I've only had to use the winch to pull an idiot Jeep owner out of the ditch so far. :woohoo: (<- not stating that all Jeep owners are idiots, only the one I recently met who was stuck in the ditch.)

I'm all stocked up on factory 9mm and .45 but I've been adding .40 little by little so I can switch to that for the indoor IDPA evnets at NA. Bought 2 more boxes at lunch at A-H reloading while I was picking up some more small pistol primers and ordered a case from SGammo.com this morning but no clue when it will arrive. Currrent Inventory of .40 at AH as of 12:15pm 1/23/2013 On the shelf when I left. About to get put out on the shelf.

It's kinda hard to quit when your the site owner/administrator. (Not that I'd ever want to.) I just spend a little less time on there in during the winter months due to the lack of car shows. The molten orange looked great but I always felt like we were driving around in an oversized road cone. I prefer the black myself. Our lot just got one of these in that the BIL is trying to sell me. Not a raptor but it does fit the "black" part of my request. :)
-
SGammo.com had several hundred cases of .40 a min ago. If you need it best get there and order it quick.

I already made room in the safe for one. :)

We had one in the family for a while and I did some work to it,(lots o lights wired into the upfitter switches) It's about the only thing I miss about the little sis's ex-husband. :) Thing was massive fun in the snow in Gatlinburg, watch a half dozen trucks try and make it up a hill, then just wait for the "traffic" to clear and drive alound all the stuck ones.

I'm still going reasonably regularly, though before I made it out the the hendersonville show to catch up with David/Sam I thought I was gonna have to slow down due to a lack of small pistol primers. Shooting mostly cast reloads has also postponed me joining the Nashville Armory for the time being though, even though I love thier facility. I end up shooting at a friend's home range but I have to do it on his schedule which makes it a little harder to line up. I also don't have a good mold for .45 or .40 ATM so I've been shooting mostly .38 and 9mm since I can easily cast more of them when I need to.

I added a circuit to the trailer's charger connection looking for a loop on the extra pins of the trailer side. If a thief unplugs the trailer from the battery charger connector while the home is armed, I get a text from the security system, and the police get a phone call from the monitoring company. Works well in testing, Hope I never have to find out for real.

Quit paying for cable in 2009, if it's not available commercial free on netflix, itunes, or usenet i don't have any interest in seeing it.

I've now sent over 500 rounds through the pair, in every combination I could come up with. All three slides have functioned perfectly on both frames. Even managed to accidentally send a 9mm round down the .40 barrel by grabbing the wrong gun/mag combo one session(just my luck, it was the night of my HCP test). Luckily nothing was damaged in the process other than my pride, and the .40 continues to function fine after a thorough inspection and reassembly. Both the centerfire setups have eaten everything I have fed them including some cheapy factory loads, the .22 in typical rimfire fashion is a little more picky eater, but functions wonderfully with CCI mini-mags and acceptably for practice with federal bulk.

I wish I could have made it, last minute guests coming in from out of town meant I spent the morning frantically cleaning the house. :( -
Time for your annual health checkup, or it that Gun Checkup?
2.ooohhh replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Generalized response of an elevator full of doctors this morning, "We barely have time in clinic to ask patients about their diet, exercise, and medications which are all critical to their health why would we wast time asking about their guns?" I'm interested to see if the younger residents' opinions are much different this afternoon. -
I've bought .40 3 x in the last week, no issues, Nashville Armory had it in stock at the range Sunday morning when I was there, Night before last Friedman's had the shelves pretty full including .40 .45, .380 and 9mm, and today A-H reloading off 4th had .40 and 9mm in stock at lunch today. Price wise, none of these were screaming deals but none were unbearable.

Tenn. police allowed to carry personal AR-15 rifles
2.ooohhh replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yep, I was across Franklin Rd. at the Texico oil change when that went down, I was too young to carry at the time but it was eye opening to say the least. They changed several things right after that incident. One being the AR-15s in every patrol car, the other being that they switched away from the digitally encrypted radios that they had just started using, b/c it apparently made it impossible for them to communicate with the metro officers arriving on scene to assist who were carrying standard radios. Seems to me that the bad guys may have figured out that banks in Davidson county make better targets since then. -
Buy low, Sell high, or sell never?
2.ooohhh replied to broox's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I buy if I want and have the cash. I don't sell until I don't want and don't need. Price has very little to do with my firearm purchases, If I don't love shooting it then it won't be worth the space it takes up in the safe. -
I ordered p229 mags and they shipped me p226 mags, but I haven't been able to get CS on the phone. From what I've read elsewhere it's not uncommon with them.
