  1.     No it's basically deidentified statistical data with zip code/age/sex as the most unique identifiers. This is very commonly released even within the medical community for use in research and reporting.   This new legislation allows-   37027- 6 permits issued last month, 23,44,56,75,81,21,,M,M,M,F,M,F,, 1 permit denied 55, M, Reason "Invalid finger print submission."       Where currently they would get something more like-   6 Permits Issued- Jay Galbreath, 38,M, Street Address, Brentwood TN Mark Gorman, 45,M,Street Address, Brentwood TN Rhea Little III,51,M, Street Address,Brentwood TN Jason Richardson, 40,M,Street Address, Brentwood TN Paul Webb,60,M,Street Address, Brentwood TN Regina Smithson, 69,F,Street Address, Brentwood TN   1 Permit Denied David E. Miller, 61, M, Street Address, Brentwood, TN Reason- "Background results- convicted of 2x aggravated identity theft"       Disclaimer: The aprooved example names above were printed in this morning's paper as they are all running for office in Brentwood, I put all 6 candidates in to fairly represent the group of them and I have no idea if they actually hold TCPs. The "denied" example was chosen randomly from a google search of Brentwood residents convicted of crimes in a court of law.
  2.     USPS will supply flat rate boxes for free and ship them to you in advance no charge.  :woohoo:   They even have flat rate APO/FPO boxes that are discounted for sending care packages to our troops. I ship bulk boxes full of new magazines and other requested items from home to a few FOBs  every month to make sure they have some fresh reading material while they are stuck in the sandbox. :usa:   They aren't kidding about that "if it fits it ships" stuff either! I recieved a 54 lbs USPS large flat rate box full of lead last week! :stunned:
  3. NFL is available(but I don't watch it so I can't review it), I haven't looked for NBA.   We do get more STL/MLB games via appleTV live than my FIL who has the $$$ MLB package through Direct TV. I was able to see my wife in the stands at the home season opener on Monday as soon as I got home from work. (not live but could have been if I wasn't at work all day) also saw her and her dad at several of the spring training games a few weeks back down in Jupiter, FL. It's a lot of coverage for around the cost of attending a single game IRL. The post season is a little screwy via the app but we have ended up preferring sports bars for the world series games anyway to be around other friends/fans.   I really don't watch sports other than WRC which I typically get un-timeshifted/edited via the web, and some soccer here and there, also via the web. The only reason we even have the MLB subscription via aTV is for the FIL when he visits, since he's constantly giving us tickets to the games I figure the least I can do is make sure I have them available for him when he's down here visiting.     As for having shows "when they air" I lost my desire for that years ago. If I'm watching TV it's on my schedule not the network's. I watch TV my way, which generally means no commercials, save for rare instances. If I can't find something to fill the excedingly small slot of time I generally get to watch TV in, then it's time to go outside and play.
  4. We ran around 90 rounds through one last spring but it was an earlier version, worked fine until it split near one of the feed lips. I'll have to ask my buddy with the printer what version it was I want to say 3.0 and I see they are on 4.5 now so I'd be interested to see how many rounds we could get through one now. We did figure out it cost around $14 in materials at the time, but I know that was falling as more people get into  3d printing every day.
  5.   I thought this too, when we were first getting used to not having cable, but now I find that my wife and I are bouncing between several excellent shows old and new. We refuse to watch "reality television" so there is very little being recorded OTA anymore in our household.    Several of the shows we've been watching are exclusive to Nexflix, as in; you can't watch them on Cable, you can't buy them in iTunes, you can only watch them on Nextflix.  (House of Cards, Lilyhammer, and soon another season of Arrested Development)   That is why I was giving Krull a hard time earlier, it's hard to be an "exclusive" when friends at work watched it the night before on cable, and those without cable can buy it in iTunes the same day it's available on prime. Don't get me wrong, I like that amazon is making a go at the online content biz, and we have prime anyway and love making use of the free streaming. I'm just not a fan of their marketing team announcing that things are exclusive when they aren't.     Maroon- if yor looking for older TV to add to your list, rewatch the West Wing. It was remastered in HD last year and all 7 seasons are on Netflix. Star Trek Enterprise was pretty good too, made me kind sad I missed most of it when it was on television.
  6.   X2   You also have to remember take into account the internet expense, In my case I'm in the computer field and frequenly on-call/working from home so the high speed internet is a job requirement rather than an entertainment expense. I would have to have a high speed connection at home even if I went back to cable/direct tv.   I also save more b/c I used to have cable subscriptions at several different houses. Now I only have mid level high speed internet at each which I use for monitoring the properties alarm/HVAC/Cameras remotely. When we go on vacation now I just toss an apple TV in my bag and all my content and accounts come with me via the internet.     I think I figured out that we were saving $3600 a year in cable and landline phone bills due to the switch to IP. All the alarms now use the internet for monitoring with a cell backup which saves the cost of a landline at each location completely and reduced the cost of monitoring alarms by half.     I've learned pretty quick since becoming a homeowner that any money saved in recurring monthly expenses no matter how small adds up fast.  IP TV is just an easy way to cut the cord and the expense that comes with it.
  7.   Somewhere after my 3rd RROD I dropped the MS consoles from my acceptable electronics list, sold them all off, and bought another PS3.   It'll have to be all that,a bag of chips, and make breakfast in the morning before I hand MS any cash for another console.
  8.     No, there is no clear winner as the feature sets and available content vary greatly, most often due to the provider. That is why several sets in my house have both. The roku streams CAN be as good as the aTV streams but they aren't always, and the PS3 often beats out both.   Most people probably won't notice the small differences in image quality on a smaller screen, but they show up as glaring issues when projected in a much larger format.  :stunned:
  9.     That's sort of how it works but putting a modern cell phone 3" from your nose does not equal watching a movie at a theater.     As the screen gets larger and the distance to the screen increases viewer eye fatigue is greatly reduced.       Streamed with prime is great for the upcoming season and it does beat out netflix and hulu+ but it won't keep Atv users from being able to purchase it if they don't have prime or a roku. Rights to "stream" and rights to "digital sale" are the loophole Apple's been using to offer content others haven't had for a few years now. If you care enough to purchase the content to be able to see it the aTV is doing quite well. If you want as much access to cheap streamed content that you don't own then the roku/PS3 is for you teamed with Netflix, Hulu+, and Prime subscriptions and the free ad supported channes on roku.
  10.     Justified is neither exclusive to Amazon nor cheaper there.  ;) It's currently $22.99 for season 4 in SD on ATV and $24.57 for the season in SD on Amazon. HD version of season 4 is $34.99 (aTV) vs. $36.92 (amazon)   As for the broken channels, b/c roku allows anyone to submit channels there were(and still are in some areas) a lot of badly scripted channels out there that are less than reliable at getting content to the roku with out breaking when they hit injected ads and intercept pages put up by providers. Most are getting resolved as time goes on but I assure you the roku you know today is not what it was several years back before the content producers got directly involved in alternative means of distribution.
  11.   It depends on the provider of the programming, for example I get Leverage the day after it airs, but on HBO content I didn't get access to game of thrones until well after it aired on cable. The majority are same day or next day though.   I have PS3s, Roku, and appleTVs and did pretty extensive testing, the roku's are good but they are no apple TV. Every TV in the house got an apple TV and the more often watched TVs in the den and the theater got one of each.   The deciding factor for the appleTV was that my wife liked it much better in actual use. (less timeouts, errors, and broken content) The airplay streaming is just icing on the cake.
  12.     Nope, No MD here, I'm just a geek that's in data administration and compliance but I do get a spiffy pager to carry around when I'm on call.  :yuck:
  13. Really well done anaylsis of the commonly stated talking points in both cases. Thanks for the links!
  14.     Medicare pays for around 65% of my patient population's care. While they aren't reimbursing at a full and fair level, I can't knock them for trying.(no one else is for these patients) Do I wish it was more? Sure. Do I wish sequestration hadn't just cut our medicare reimbursment schedule again? Absolutely. Until commercial payors are more concerned with patient health in general over profit, and the american people put somewhat healthy lifestyle choices in front of their own unhealthy desires medicare is one of the few things attempting to pick up the slack.(they just do it in the most onerous and inefficient manner)
  15. I don't know much, but I know the practice here in Brentwood mentioned in the linked article that is having issues and it isn't anything due to obamacare/medicare.   Dr. L. Morgan Moor (formerly Dr. Williams) and the medical team at New Life Physicians PLLC provide bio-equivalent hormone replacement therapy, weight loss programs  and aesthetic procedures such as Botox® and other cosmetic injectables, wrinkle reduction treatments, laser hair removal, laser skin treatment, laser leg vein treatment, Fraxel and Candela laser treatments.   The underlined procedures are not Medical in nature, and are not covered by most insurance and certainly not covered by medicare.     BCBS states that BHRT had no medical value.  That may be in line with what many of their "patients" who are paying for this BS out of pocket are finally realizing.
  16. I find it much easier to push the patched through with a rod, the bullet method makes a mess of the solvent.
  17. If I hadn't just recieved the 4 I orderd form Ruger these would be aweful tempting.
  18. that's just a bonus. :)
  19.     no, your incorrect again.    10k invested with an average rate of 10% (not to hard to achieve long term with mutual funds) x30 yrs  would be 174,494.02   10k invested at a 1% rate (high for traditional savings account but available if you shop around) x 30 yrs would become 13,478.49   so properly investing you would end up with 47x the profit of the savings account over the same time period.     Compound interest calculator so you can see for yourself. http://www.moneychimp.com/calculator/compound_interest_calculator.htm
  20. Whether or not you look for an advisor is your call. If you need the money your investing then don't invest it. Go into any single investment ready to write off the sum of the investment as a total loss. If  you understand the mechanics of the investment and you can't stomach the loss you don't need to invest that much, or in that particular product. 3 funds as suggested by xrustyx is a great starting off point  understanding your investements. I use Vanguard for my Roth and am happy with both the customer service and several of the funds available.
  21. Dave Ramsey preaches not investing in anything you don't fully understand, which I fully agree with. If I have to pay my lawyer 6 additional hours to go over every detail in a contract with me than that's what I do until I know what's happening inside and out, who's doing what, how much they get paid, who's paying them, and how much it'll all cost compared to the projected return.
  22.   Your very mistaken, buying real estate and reselling is a much harder way to make money b/c you have to keep doing it to keep making money. If you have cash buying and renting in the right areas is they way to make much more return.  I make more in a given year from our rental properties than I do at work, and if you invest in the right mix of properties they will rent with ease for years to come. My house on the west coast alone brings in several thousand dollars per month from March to September with sporadic rentals in the off season. Keep doing it for years(or generations) and the family can now vacation in FL, OR, TN, SC, Europe, or South America at greatly reduced cost.    It is not the only investement, but it is one of our best investments, to answer the OP's question, my salary is funding my retirement split between a 403b(to get company match) and the remainder into a ROTH IRA up to the maximum rate allowed by the tax code. The income from the rentals is used for further diversified investments in property or short term investments such as business ventures.
  23. Even if you set off the primer of a loose round the case would likely split or the bullet would be blown out of the case if not supported by a chamber.    A chamber and barrel to support the round and direct the explosion/projectile are pretty much required to make the round dangerous.   That said I wouldn't go trying it b/c a round splitting it's case could still put your eye out if it spit in the wrong direction. ;)   When I was younger a friend nearly lost his eye trying to melt the lead out of .22LR rounds with a torch. Yeah . .  that didn't end well, but aside from a small scar just above his eye you wouldn't know today.
  24. x3   Dave has done all my vehicles for several years now, no complaints.
  25.     I have multiple lawyers b/c in my experience one lawyer cannot do everything, at least not very well. I have a top notch criminal defense attorney, among others. In this case you will want a good criminal defense attorney, or an attorney specializing in firearms used in self defense. If you carry a firearm you should research right now and pick a lawyer before hand that you trust to defend you in the future and program them into you phone before the SHTF.  First call is 911(that is me "rendering aid" in this situation), 2nd call is the lawyer.     I won't go into the details b/c it's a long drawn out story, but I will say that I learned this the hard way, a long time ago.
