  1. It takes 9-22 administered vials of CroFab to treat a snakebite, they are typically administered with a large dose (6/12/18 vials) up front then 2 vials at a time on 6 hour intervals out to 18 hours. It takes 30-60 min to prepare each dose before it can be administered since it is stored in a dry state to preserve efficacy. All the patient generally sees is a 250ml bag being brought out and added to the IV stand with a sticker on it so they see it as a single dose, while in the pharmacy there are likely 18-20 now empty vials of anti-venom on the way to the trashcan used to prepare that single "dose". Depending on the bite the patient may only initially require 6 vials to overpower the venom, unfortunately much more had to be reconstituted to prepare for the worst(some bites require the full 18 vials). It's only good to administer for 4 hours once mixed so often it is wasted. It's priced to the center on a per package basis, each package is 2 vials @ just under $4k. Going with that the initial dose would be $36k in anti-venom alone with a follow up of $4k every six hours out to 18. Not hard to see where the $42k in anti-venom cost came from but it should have been referred to as a single course of the treatment rather than a "dose" since it is administered with 4 doses over 24 hours from initial presentation.
  2. Hasn't been too hard to find around here, not much variety but at least it's been getting to the shelves.
  3. I should have been clearer, our rental property here is currently empty, though renting it for 1 month instead of a full year would be a favor. (Doubt my wife would approve a 1 month house guest we don't know personally, no hard feelings. )    It's a 2br condo but after a previous VUMC resident kept very odd hours due to his ER scheduling I promised the neighbors I would ask ahead of time in the future. I generally only rent it to VUMC staff/students for the school year and only list it on the VU classifieds as it generally rents quickly there. She may want to look there as well as it is a good resource.    http://www.vanderbilt.edu/classifieds/list/near-campus
  4. I might be able to arrange something, let me talk to the wife tonight. Any more info on the rotation and expected work hours?(PM is fine if you don't want them public)
  5. It was apparently a pricing mistake but I got quite a few bundles at the uber low prices less 20% b/c I used iTunes cards purchased at a discount. :woohoo:
  6. Older snakebite kits included a razor blade and relied on the victim bleeding and with very slight suction to expel the venom.(didn't work out very well) newer kits such as the sawyer extractor use suction at the point of the bite to extract venom which can be relatively effective if used VERY soon after the bite though neither are replacement for remaining calm and keeping the victim's heart rate down while getting them to a healthcare facility for a dose of anti-venom. OId style Snakebite kit Newer style extractor based kit
  7. If no one buys it he won't be able to sell it for $100 profit. I suggest that you don't buy it. If you want to go a step further sell anyone who needs ammo any that you can spare at your cost and ask them to do the same should you ever need any. I've done this with several friends and members here and it has been able to keep many from having to buy any ammo off gun broker.
  8. I'm guessing that they have raised the shipping on ammo only orders drastically temporarily to help curb the reselling. It's hard to make $ reselling if you are limited to a single box or two of ammo and shipping is near $20. but last month I had 550 rounds of .22lr that showed as $21 to ship by itself but after adding a few other non ammo items to my cart shipping dropped to $8.
  9. I switched to Comcast business last month, so far it seems like quite a different animal. Much better customer service, no bandwidth caps, no blocked ports or services. They do pitch you a bunch of "bundle" services such as their voip solution but it was pretty easy to just say no and get on with getting the internet set up. The list of supported modems is shorter but mine was compatible which saves me another $9 or something a month. The service itself was $10 or so more a month than my residential was AFTER the promotion ran out, but that is more than worth it for the bandwidth cap removal.
  10. 64 to the Trace would likely be a great ride. I take the trace from my near me to Waynesboro a couple times a year to visit friends down that way and it's always a great drive.
  11. Most modern chip based cameras have IR filters eliminating this vulnerability, the exception being entry to mid level security cameras aimed at low light recording that typically use IR illumination to capture video in VERY low light. High end security cameras using fast lenses are pretty much immune but most companies aren't willing to drop $5k per camera and another $2k on glass for a "security" camera.
  12. The covers that reflect light generally work well for red light cameras at night as they force the flash to overexpose the plate by reflecting more light than is typical of standard plates. It's very hard to obscure a plate in daylight hours while remaining legal. On one of my cars I just used a magnetic tag holder and generally removed the tag whenever parked so the tag didn't get stolen.
  13.     In the medical field so far as I've seen it thus far Vandy asks if you've been convicted and runs a background check on employees annually. The VA asked if I was charged, convicted, and about "set aside" judgements. Each had to be explanted to the security officer reviewing my access in depth, luckily I only had a singe misfortunate night from college where I mad a bad decision and it was apparently forgivable. The SO did say that if I had tried to hide it and they had come across it it in a later review that I would have been terminated. :ugh:
  14. You think that, right up until you're patiently waiting for an NFA stamp to come back, at which point the TN HCP system seems really efficient. :stunned:
  15.   When I was single I had a mac mini with a TV for a monitor used for watching pretty much everything. The wife put a quick end to is as she didn't want to have to use a mouse and a keyboard to watch tv. As simple as it can seem the interface sucks compared to having a simple remote to control the experience from the couch.
  16. Back when I was in school. . . Stock Manager for Victoria's Secret in Green Hills. Still can't walk by a VS store without smiling.
  17. I love the 5.11 Covert khakis, have around a dozen pair but recently had to retire some of the first I bought due to wear, i'll post pics if the wife hasn't donated them yet.
  18. I think a lot of the wait depends on the background check, Most Ive heard of recently are pretty quick (sub 6 weeks). The one I did hear of that took 87 days was a friend in the armed services who had "lived" in 6 states in 5 years(I honestly thinks he's spent more time downrange in that time period then at home). When he called they apparently told him that they were waiting on a background query to come back from one of the places he had lived but wouldn't elaborate on which one it was that was holding up the process.
  19.  I have, super nice guy in person, and a good neighbor.
  20. Yep a custom kydex case from kwik arms.
  21. Best Western off Division is a good bang for the buck hotel relatively close to downtown with good access.
  22. Do you want to be close to the opry and the adjacent attractions(hotel, mall, ect), or close to downtown?(music city hall of fame, Broadway, ect)
  23. Sure interstate transport laws may very well play into this, he didn't say a word to the police and all his attorney has to point out is that his client was just beginning a journey to Kentucky on foot.    Would I believe it- no. . . could the state prove otherwise with the evidence they have from the arrest- not likely.
  24.  When the headline reads- "Man wanders downtown with AR-15 equipped with silencer" instead of, "Activist baits police into arresting him through noncooperation, ends up in jail."    My point was that the news venues aren't pushing the "he's an idiot angle" which makes Leonard look bad, they are pushing the "Ar-15s are evil" angle which makes a perfectly legal inanimate object look bad as well as reflecting badly on those of us who own guns, at least in most of the public's eyes.
  25.   If he wast merely transporting it on foot he should have been legal.   18 USC § 926A - Interstate transportation of firearms-"the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container"   "Upon opening the AR-15 rifle, authorities found that it was not loaded; however, there was a wire lock preventing them from checking the chamber to see if a live round was inside."   18 USC § 926A - Interstate transportation of firearms-"any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible"   Last I checked he was still a dealer of NFA items which I would guess makes you legal to possess them while in transit. Since they had to both open and unlock the firearm to confirm that it was unloaded I would assume that it was not "readily accessible"  and was in what was effectively a "locked container"     TCA states under 39-17-1308 a   (a) It is a defense to the application of § 39-17-1307 if the possession or carrying was: (1) Of an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon   It certainly wasn't concealed, and I've seen no mention whatsoever of ammunition near him or the weapon.
