  1. I spend lots of time on a relatively basic dual purpose sim rig playing rfactor and x-plane. One program is used to train race drivers for new tracks the other pilots. Previously I had a PS3 based multi-screen racing rig setup for GT4 exclusively but I wanted more of a challenge so while waiting for GT5 to be released a friend introduced me to some of his sponsors and the rfactor platform, and I began building a rig. While I might certainly be labeled as hardcore I've pretty well slipped from "gamer" to "sim geek". As for a more stout challenge, I got all that and then some. I'm often amazed by the guys that shave seconds off my lap times on certain tracks but then I have also figured out that several of them are professional race drivers just in the sim league for the opportunity to "practice" on tracks they actually race on. :stunned:   I don't think less of serious MMO or FPS gamers it's just a different world than sims and all 3 can be very compeditive near the top. :2cents:
  2. I really only calculated for the first one, excel did the rest.  :woohoo:
  3. At 50 yards 3' is .573 degrees of angle so rounded to the closest whole foot-   50 yards- 1'x1.5' 100 yards- 2'x3' 150 yards- 4'x6' 200 yards- 6'x9' 250 yards- 8'x12' 300 yards- 10'x15' 350 yards- 12'x18' 400 yards- 14'x21' 450 yards- 16'x24' 500 yards- 18'x27 550 yards- 20'x30' 600 yards- 22'x33'
  4.   I don't read any single news source but rely on the aggregate to point me to what's worth reading more about, By searching the entire news stream instead of a single site I can see how many outlets are reporting it, If if find a single source it is suspect and often false, if I find dozens it's likely news and not being hidden(may not be on CNN b/c they care more about ratings than accurate reporting) but should still be looked into if it interests me, if all sources were outside the US I might believe that it was attempting to be hidden or hushed by the administration or the mainstream US media,(saw this often with the earliest Snowden data)     I took issue that you insinuated that it was "not easily found" in national news sources here, when MANY national news sources were top results of even the simplest of cursory searches utilizing a mainstream search engine.   Reputable and without bias are different things. I can stand a factually correct story with a left lean though I don't like my news leaning either way, but I can not stand a source such as the daily mail being presented as "reputable" when it has often in the past falsified sources and stories to sell papers/get web hits.   http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/mediawire/222979/mail-online-executive-false-stories-not-completely-out-of-the-realm-of-possibility/   http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/regret-the-error/173261/daily-mail-reporter-cant-explain-how-false-report-got-published/   http://www.theguardian.com/media/2012/jan/12/daily-mail-neil-morrissey-damages   http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/10/16/fox-news-promotes-false-story-about-transgender-student-harassing-girls-in-bathroom/   http://www.globalresearch.ca/britains-daily-mail-u-s-backed-plan-to-launch-chemical-weapon-attack-on-syria/5346912   http://www.millenniumvillages.org/field-notes/daily-mail-retracts-false-claim-about-millennium-villages   http://www.hobo-web.co.uk/amanda-knox-freed-daily-mail-guilty-lols/
  5. Typing "obamacare" into google news and looking at the last 24 hours brings up dozens upon dozens of results from reputable sources in the US. Doesn't appear anyone is hiding it.   Washington Times   Politico   Wall Street Journal   CNBC   LA Times       Not really news worthy anyway and certainly not a bombshell, IMHO until the Judge rules that the case has merit and allows it to proceed.
  6.   A lot depends on the scrubs, there's a world of difference between the brand name stuff some of our floor nurses/house staff buy to wear and the hospital issue OR scrubs. In our OR issued scrubs(the only scrubs I've worn here b/c I wear scrubs very infrequently) I can barely hold my pager in the pocket while I tie the drawstring much less a firearm.   This particular guy should have have thought further ahead, but that's pretty much a given.
  7.   Scrub pockets, and scrubs in general are terrible for carry. You might be able to conceal a NA 22 revolver, but the better option is to change back into regular clothes after work as most hospitals already require of OR staff. Nurses and staff on the floors aren't required to change but I sure would.
  8. Would I carry a long gun around outside my vheicle - likely not   Do I believe it should be illegal - No
  9. You can't just carry a baton in TN it requires a certificate from the state and likely would also be classified a weapon by the school so would still be breaking school rules.      39-17-1308. Defenses to unlawful possession or carrying of a weapon.   (a)  It is a defense to the application of § 39-17-1307 if the possession or carrying was: (1) Of an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon; (2) By a person authorized to possess or carry a firearm pursuant to § 39-17-1315 or § 39-17-1351; (3) At the person’s: (A) Place of residence; (B) Place of business; or (C) Premises; (4) Incident to lawful hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting or other lawful activity; (5) By a person possessing a rifle or shotgun while engaged in the lawful protection of livestock from predatory animals; (6) By a Tennessee valley authority officer who holds a valid commission from the commissioner of safety pursuant to this part while such officer is in the performance of the officer’s official duties; (7) By a state, county or municipal judge or any federal judge or any federal or county magistrate; (8) By a person possessing a club/baton who holds a valid state security officer/guard registration card as a private security officer/guard, issued by the commissioner, and who also has certification that such officer has had training in the use of club/baton which is valid and issued by a person certified to give training in the use of clubs/batons; (9) By any person possessing a club/baton who holds a certificate that the person has had training in the use of a club/baton for self-defense which is valid and issued by a certified person authorized to give training in the use of clubs/batons, and is not prohibited from purchasing a firearm under any local, state or federal laws; or (10) By any out-of-state, full-time, commissioned law enforcement officer who holds a valid commission card from the appropriate out-of-state law enforcement agency and a photo identification; provided, that if no such valid commission card and photo identification are retained, then it shall be unlawful for such officer to carry firearms in this state and the provisions of this section shall not apply. The defense provided by this subpart shall only be applicable if the state where the out-of-state officer is employed has entered into a reciprocity agreement with this state that allows a full-time, commissioned law enforcement officer in Tennessee to lawfully carry or possess a weapon in such other state. (b)  The defenses described in this section are not available to persons described in § 39-17-1307(b)(1). [Acts 1989, ch. 591, § 1; 1990, ch. 1029, § 7; 1993, ch. 200, § 1; 1996, ch. 1009, §§ 20, 21; 1997, ch. 476, § 3; 1999, ch. 295, § 1; 2003, ch. 144, § 2.]       So the charge for carrying a baton is apparently the same as a handgun as both are illegal. Defense to the handgun is an HCP, defense to the baton holder is holding a certificate of training.       OP- I suggest you look up into taking up golf or joining a local softball team. :)
  10.     As was thinking the EO only effected military firearms that originated in the US? (ie we originally sold the weapons to country x who now want state dept. permission to sell them to importers.)   http://www.pagunblog.com/2013/08/29/the-legalities-of-the-new-executive-order/
  11. I doubt that they will be too disappointed, I added 2 additional uppers and BCGs to my original commitment after seeing the quality at the price offered. I'm sure some others have as well, but if I could have ordered a half dozen at that price I would have given some time to budget for it.
  12. http://www.amberalert.gov/   AND http://www.missingkids.com/AMBER   I don't know what the above DOJ link is that was taken down, but amber alert is still alive and kicking at it's original home.
  13. I have a small yeti and a large coleman. For longer canoe trips I often pack the yeti with things I want towards the end of the trip freezing what I can and occasionally adding dry ice to keep the temp even lower. I'm in and out of the large coleman getting drinks/bait/food for the first few days and slowly it's ice all melts away and it gets lighter and lighter. By the time it's ice is gone so are the drinks and food that was in it and now it's just a storage box. The little yeti often hasn't been opened up until this point so it has an unfair advantage but there it is 6 or 7 days into the trip and i can pull out unspoiled milk and fresh steaks.   With dry ice it's also good for ice cream on weekend trips, nothing wigs out boaters on the river quite the same way as floating by quietly in a canoe eating an ice cream cone miles from the nearest put in or dock.     I looked at just getting one larger yeti but no way I'm lugging a 50 lbs when empty cooler around for any distance after the ice melts.
  14. I was this towns's police chief I might just tell my officers to all steer clear of a few square miles surrounding the school, and be sure to announce the local media that my officers would all be clear of the school so as to not scare the children, but not to worry the officers can be there in 5 or 10 min. if you need them.
  15.     Luckily I've only needed a weapon while in my vehicle once, and that was a crazy night in MS post Katrina, since that night I try and carry enough weapons I can arm others who might be with me in case of emergency. Sometimes that's a couple pistols that can share mags, sometimes it's an AR, Shotgun, my carry that day, and my BUG if it's on me. This is because having a pistol was better than nothing but in our case we had potential aggressors lining both sides of a very narrow road leading to a bridge and I would have given anything to have an extra handgun so we could at least have a gun covering the crowd on both sides of the truck at the same time.     I ALWAYS have ears otherwise the helicopters landing on the roof next door tend to give me headaches.
  16.   The Pelican is an 1150, It was too large for it's original intended purpose(shipping hard drives to FOBs in 'stan) so I kept trying different uses for it and pmag storage was the one that stuck. I like being able to throw the mags into a bed box without them getting wet/oily/dirty/crushed when I'm in less than friendly states.(IL mainly)
  17. My f350 has a big sky rack holding an AR and a shotgun, after the biker thing I'm seriously considering adding a similar setup to the beetle. In the truck I have a pelican case under the seat for ammo not sure what the beetle may will end up with since it doesn't have as much room under the seats.
  18. Question I have is; Was he carrying legally? Anyone catch a statement of whether he holds a HCP?
  19. No clue why these were re-posted by lady gaga of all people, but there are several more videos of the motorcyclists rowdy and often illegal behavior. In several cases they ride on sidewalks, block cars at intersections with quads, run red lights, split lanes, change lanes without signaling, box cars in keeping them from retreating/exiting to the right lane, inter into verbal altercations with other drivers, ect.   Several unedited videos seem to be hosted here and apparently they were grabbed before the original went viral and the owner pulled the rest due to incriminating evidence. http://www.youtube.com/user/LadyGagaOfficialFan1/videos
  20. In for 2 lowers, and a big THANK YOU to all who are helping make this possible!
  21.     "“Ammunition” means cartridge cases, shells, projectiles (including shot), primers, bullets (including restricted pistol bullets), propellant powder, or other devices or materials designed, redesigned, or intended for use in a firearm or destructive device."   Source
  22. "According to U.S. law, if a person's best eye has an acuity of 20/200 or worse and/or if their peripheral vision is less than 20 degrees, then that person is LEGALLY BLIND. This criteria is used to determine eligibility for driver's licenses, disability requirements, and eligibility for special services. So, legally, those whose best eye, with correction, can see at twenty feet what those with normal vision can see at 200 feet, or whose peripheral vision is less than 20 degrees, are legally blind. "   source     3 of the 4 blind people I'm acquainted with would be fine with a pistol in a self defense situation, all can see pretty dang well close up. None can legally drive but as I understand it from the one I know best it's because he can't focus on anything at a distance greater than 50 or so feet, and from my interactions with the others I would suspect that that they are about the same.
  23. Galaxy DX44 with a Texas Star amplifier when needed. Rarely use it since I went HAM though.
  24. I did the math a year after we got ours and figured out that and save about $75- $100 a month in the hottest and coldest months of the year, moderate months energy expense is about the same. The pair of nests installed have certainly paid for themselves in the year we've had them. Our second Nest controls our baseboard heaters and a window ac unit in an addition and saves us the most in the winter while the main nest controls the rest of the home's HVAC which helps dramatically in the summer.   If your a little creative and handy with circuits they can control a lot more than Nest lets on on the site.(Likely b/c they don't want to support homegrown setups) One bit that took me a while to source for the baseboards was a mechanical relay for the line voltage that had a built in transformer to supply the nest with power. (previously had a line voltage thermostat)     For anyone who may be looking- RC840T-240
  25. McDougal's Chicken Tenders off Belcourt, is good as well if your staying close to the hospital, it's posted but most of the decent restaurants within walking distance of campus are.   San Antonio Taco Company (SATCO) is pretty good texmex while school is in session(falls off a bit around breaks)(21st Ave a block or two north of VUMC)   Cori's Dog House has good dogs if your into that, interesting french toast buns that are are either loved or hated. (26th? ave off West End)   Ted's Montana Grill is pretty good for a dinner as is Blackstone Brewery both off West End.   Pancake Pantry is good for a late breakfast if you can catch it around lunchtime during the week when there is no real line, but otherwise I wouldn't stand in the line for it. (South of VUMC off 21st Ave)
