I agree, 100%. But my question is... what if you were in the process of getting the crap beat out of you, after of course trying everything to avoid it, and your attacker goes for your gun, and you HAVE to shoot him? Based on your jury experience and basic knowledge do you not feel any weight would be given to that? I'm not saying that I feel you would be acquitted on ONLY that, but wouldn't that be considered?
-
Yeah I noticed that. Sorry for the bad intel. It used to be. I actually linked to a new article from just the database page. So I wasnt aware til I went back and saw that. Thats at least ONE good thing.

I'm well aware of the many references of bogey. Was being facetious. Boogey Man just sounds more of what this guy should be called. Seems he's scared of things which would make someone with a little more common sense realize is actually a safety barrier. Oh well.

Was reading an article I came across while looking at the ridiculously posted names and addresses of permit holders in the Memphis' "Commercial Appeal" which carried this comment from "Bogey Man" It makes perfect sense to me: as the educational and IQ levels of Tennesseans decline, of course we're going to have a corresponding increase in the number of carry permits that are issued. This also explains the correlation between certain Tennessee legislators' IQ's and the "gun friendly" bills they introduce. Maybe he left out an o in his first name or he truly is as dumb as he sounds. When will people learn.

The reality is we all at some point could very well be in this situation. And while hindsight is 20/20, which is what the jury will have, they might never grasp the fact that you didn't have the time to weigh all the options a good prosecuting attorney will bring up. Which is why I have a thumb break on my holster. Some say it will slow you down. But I just hope that I'm never in a situation where I would have to draw my weapon and not at least take a few seconds to think it over. There are many situations like this. Some people can just plain ole whip some butt. And yes, they COULD grab your weapon. This is one situation I pray I never run into. And now that I have my HCP I feel I will look at situations differently than I have before when people ticked me off. I was taught to handle myself very well without anything while in the military, but these days you never know WHAT some guy is going to pull out or try to do. In the 2 days Ive been carrying now, I haven't felt more safe but the need to be more responsible. Which might just be what ALOT of people need to feel. Bless us all. Be safe

Class 3-7, applied and fingerprinted 3-10, approved 4-08, printed at print farm 4-12, received in the mail 4-14. AWESOME. And I had a small problem that needed clearing up.
-
Lo and behold, I went to the mailbox today, not really expecting to see it, and there it was. My permit. I think the neighbors thought I had won the lottery or something. Am suprised the print farm printed it on 4/12/10 and I got it 2 days later. Am very happy. The only holsters I have are a couple of paddles, and a couple of Don Hume belt slots. For today the paddles were more comfortable and with them if I pull my shirt over it it appears I'm shoplifting something. So when I went to Wally World and a few other places, I just left it open. Am not really a big fan of open carry, but no one seemed to notice or even care. I'm ex military and I guess maybe with the way I dress I appear to look like an officer. No one even looked as far as I could tell. Overall a good experience. Now to just talk the wife into getting me a good High Noon holster and belt. Horsehide. Then I'll be set.

Something told me things were going ok with my permit application yesterday. So I emailed Lisa. She told me my permit was issued on 4/8/10 and printed on 4/12/10, and that I should be getting it in about 10 days. HOORAH!!!! And the mailman thought I was charging him before....... Lisa is really a sweet and nice lady. My first email to her was just on a whim on a Friday night. She answered me on a Saturday morning. she was super sweet. Just makes the whole thing so much nicer when you have someone who puts up with us guys (and gals) who probably bug her more than we should, but we can't help it cuz it's like your first Christmas and you just can't wait. So many people who work for the government or the state are rarely kind, and when you deal with someone who breaks that stereotype it's great. I sorta feel sorry NOW for my mailman!

I see where several people have emailed Lisa. I don't see her email listed. I don't want to bother her, but am anxious to know whether I am going to be getting it soon or not. What should I do? It's been 3 weeks, so its not like its been a long time. But I see a lot of people here who applied the same week/day I did and they have theirs. Just makes you anxious.

Times have definitely changed. When I was growing up in the 70's you could carry around shotguns and rifles in gun racks in plain sight and no one questioned anything. I remember going hunting with my dad and stopping by a country store to get some sandwiches and there being county police there also and nothing was ever said. Things certainly arent like that today. Its a shame that a gun owner cant lawfully go to target shoot without having to worry that some cop with a power ego will pull you over in your truck and be able to decide whether your unloaded gun in the glove box and the ammo in a locked safe is lawful or not, depending on his mood.
-
What about if you have a truck, with no trunk? I am afraid that if I have the gun in the cab of the truck, even in a case or safe, and the ammunition in the glove box, that since both are in the cab of the truck, that the police could theoretically say that the two are within reach of the driver and could charge you. Thats another of the many reasons I want a HCP. Just how could you go about carrying both when you have a truck?

Thanks very much FastLane. I have been worried about it. Time drags by when you want something this bad and 90 days seems like 90 months. But your post has eased my mind about it quite a bit. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know and hope you enjoy your HCP.

Thanks for the help on posting pics, and for all the compliments. I think so too!

Whats the deal? wait, I can put in a hyperlink. http://www.filedropper.com/taylor_1 there ya go!!!!! See what I mean?!

I took my class here in the 'boro and the class was NOT what I would have expected. There were 30 of us, and several people were obviously only interested in finding out all they could about how they could shoot someone, brandish their weapon and get away with it. They kept asking so many questions about scenarios that the legitimate questions some of us had we never got to ask. Also, there were a few who were so interested in shooting all they could. They took us to the range in groups of five and one group was in there for an hour. So we actually only got about 3 hours clasroom and an hour (maybe) on the range. The rest was spent sitting in the classroom while the ONE instructor spent the time with the other 5 groups of 5 in the range. Poorly laid out. Im definitely looking to take some more classes since its been a while since ive been active.

My wife IS MY firearm. Some guy got smart with me at Wally World, and before I could set him straight she stepped in front of me and handled the situation in a way that couldnt have been done better on tv. I asked her to marry me that night. She taught self defense in the military to the women recruits.

Thanks for the offer of help and the support. I believe whole-heartedly in reaching out and helping others and will always be available to help or assist anyone who might ever need help. I have lived my life serving others, was an Army Ranger over in Somalia and by the grace of GOD survived that mission. I enjoy all forms of firearms and look forward to making new friends and meeting some good people here at tngunowners. Does anyone know the number of the HCP office if I need to call and check on my status? I dont really want to do that now since its not been long, but would like to have it in case I do decide to call one day. Thanks

Thanks DWARREN. I bought my Don Hume holsters through Gunnersalley. They have alot of their older holsters with the covered belt slots due to their being a vendor. Ive been very happy with them.

Im new to the forums here. Sorry to be coming in to this discussion late, but I found it by searching for times it takes to get your permit. I, too, had a criminal impersonation charge, and since it was a misdeameanor and was suspended, I thought nothing of it. I just applied last week, but now I'm all depressed because I bet mine gets denied because of that too. I think its wrong of them to say you can get a permit if youve not done any of these and then after getting your money they say, Oh yeah, that too. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to lurk around and see how nice it is for everyone else who has one.

New Member here. Ive got two Don Hume holsters. Both are the H710's with the covered belt slots. Don Hume has gone to open slots, much to my disliking, because it's just more comfortable with the covered slots as there is less bulk tucked behind the belt jabbing into your side. They hold the gun very very close to your side and are extremely well made. Don Hume, I feel, is highly overlooked and under-rated. I tried to upload a picture but dont see the manage attachments box. Oh well. It'll take me a while to get used to things here.
