  1. This has got to be some kind of conspiracy by someone for all these shooting mishaps to be happening all of a sudden and so close together. I mean I know things happen, but it sure seems like lately there have been one after another mishaps where idiots either get shot, shoot themselves, or brings a gun to a show and shoots 3 people. Come on!    http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/19/us/north-carolina-gun-show-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
  2. Joined as a lifetime member the day their statement came out about the school shootings. Their statement really made alot of sense. This country protects our banks, the president, congress, even the Social Security Office had an armed guard when I went there with my elderly mother. And yes, when people hear a bump in the night at 3 AM they pick up the phone and call who? Someone with a gun. So yeah, I became a member. Am just ashamed I didn't become one before now.
  3. I used to carry openly, mainly because it was more comfortable. A few months ago people started giving me hateful looks or staring, looking at me like I was going to rob someone. I dress nice and still have a high and tight, so a hoodlum I DONT resemble. It all came to an end one night at Wally World when I kept getting looked at and finally said.... well I cant say that but I pulled my sweatshirt over it and went about my way shopping.   These two employees in electronics kept staring at me, obviously because I was printing a little, and next thing I know this guy is following me all over the store. Now this is like 11:30 at night, and being former military its ingrained in me to notice people who obviously are following you. Lets just say WallyWorld doesn't put much training in these guys. Next thing I know, as Im paying and about to leave, two male employees come up to my register and pretend to be stocking the aisle way  all the time watching me.   As I walk out, the guy who had been following me was standing outside, like he was either waiting for me or someone else. As I walked to my vehicle, he waits then starts to follow me. As I get in my truck and am about to pull out, I see a patrol car pulling in and the guy waves at the cops and tries to get their attention. I just went on about my business. But really?   Either you're a bad guy if you carry openly in some people's eyes, or if you conceal and print a little bit, you're a bad guy. So from now on I guess Ill just conceal well and keep the sheeple from dashing out of the gates.
  4. Just call and tell them you want an application for a duplicate. They will then mail you an application.
  5. Her address is Lisa.Knight@tn.gov Post a follow up and let us know what has happened.
  6. Tell your friend to email Lisa. She is extremely good at replying to emails and does so regardless of it being the weekend or even holidays. She is very professional. This is why I try to stay away from going in to the DOS for anything concerning renewals, duplicates of my HCP. Some stations confiscate them for renewals when they are not supposed to. The permit is still valid and therefore just because one goes in for a renewal they should not take your still valid HCP. Neither should they confiscate one where you have moved and are simply wanting an address change. There is nothing in the language that would require a confiscation, recheck of background simply because you have moved. As long as you moved from within the state and the HCP is current. Emailing her, even on a Friday night, will get you a response on Saturday concerning this, at the latest. She will get it straightened out.
  7. Just saw where an elderly man pulled his 380 and shot at 2 robbers who came storming in with a gun and a bat... watch the video...... as soon as the guy who had the gun saw the elderly man pointing HIS gun at him, he lit outta there like his tail was on fire. +1 for us all http://cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/crime/2012/07/17/dnt-internet-cafe-robbery-foiled.wkmg.html
  8. I started carrying my wallet on my left side when I got my permit just for this such a scenario. I figured if I am reaching for my wallet I don't want him to worry I'm "going for it", and have found it also helps during the winter when sweeping my jacket out of the way and, if it were to be in my right side I would be exposing my weapon and possibly scaring the sheep.
  9. According to several friends of mine who carry, they did not receive any such notice that their permits were expiring and had to call to request an application, or go by and pick one up, to actually get one. I'm sure I could be wrong, but makes sense that they don't automatically mail out the applications to those with permits about to expire. I called and requested an application for a duplicate and received it in 5 days. My duplicate arrived 4 weeks later.
  10. Its time we start letting businesses know that if they choose to make decisions to ban the lawful carry of firearms by lawful citizens that our money will be spent elsewhere. I'll NEVER give a dime to any business with such a sign. Sheeple.
  11. Seems to be they are misinformed on this. At least at some stations. If someone wishes to renew in person, I would just leave my permit at home with the gun since you cant carry inside anyway, thereby not having it for them to take. Doesn't make sense for them to take it. Fallguy is correct, as usual. You would think they would know what to do. Just doesnt make sense to take a permit that is still valid.
  12. I have slowly started OC'ing because of the comfort of my SERPA and, while I feel uncomfortable sometimes, I only do it because the of how comfortable the holster is. Ive got a drawer full and have one OWB that is very tight to the body, but tightening my belt up so much just makes all day carry such a pain. I sometimes pull my shirt over the SERPA when I feel nervous, even though I have the right to carry, but it doesnt really do much good. I feel that I might just continue this way til I have a bad experience.
  13. I have made it a point to "know" the law on where I CAN and CAN'T carry for just such run in's with the ignorant. Although it is annoying when misinformed people try and call you out if you are made, it is better to know the law and be able to refute them if they are wrong and educate them on the correct law. I carry concealed mostly but if my shirt comes over it I usually don't catch it or realize it. As others have stated, better to just leave than to inform some places, as they just might post and make it worse for us all.
  14. Though some reports have stated that they take your HCP when renewing, I don't think they actually do. That would be like taking away your drivers license and mailing you a new one if they didn't have the capability to issue the DL immediately. Having said that, going to the DOS to renew is really no better at getting your renewal. They can't issue your HCP there, the receipt they give you just proves you have applied for a renewal, and if you apply in plenty of time before yours expires, by mail allows you to keep your permit IF they did take it at the DOS. Also, they supposedly mail you a receipt when you apply by mail, so if your permit was to expire before you received it, you would have that to show. All in all, I'm for the mail. One reason I also always pay for the renewal and a duplicate at the same time. $55 gets you one and a duplicate. I have found it more comfortable to have a duplicate in case I were to misplace my wallet and not be able to find it for a couple days. (it's happened)
  15. I saw one of the beggars the other day at WalMart in the boro. He was talking on a cell phone early in the morning before traffic got bad. His sign said he had lost all his money and didn't have any money for food or clothes. Apparently he can afford an iPhone though. They need to get off their a@* and get a job like everybody else.
  16. In the news lately there have been many instances of citizens helping only to be charged. As much as it is in me to help out ANYONE who needs it, after following these outrageous stories of people being arrested for trying to help out another, I think I would lean toward being a good witness and calling 911. Just my 2 cents
  17. No. No political reasoning, no gun accessory company affiliation behind my desire to search the database, just personal. I finally figured it out. Thanks for all the help.
  18. As soon as news about a ND comes out there are those who preach about not carrying one in the chamber and how dangerous Glocks are and how they will never own a Glock and how they will never carry with one in the chamber and how dangerous it is to carry cocked and locked and on and on and on, yet these people strap on a gun and feel they would be able to chamber a round and pull that horrible trigger and actually discharge a weapon if ever presented with the opportunity to do so. Gripe b*@#h and complain all they want about the all dangerous Glock and the horribleness of carrying with one in the chamber but there has NEVER been an instance of spontaneous discharge of a weapon when the trigger was left alone. If you can't keep your finger off the trigger til needed you probably shouldn't be carrying a gun at all, much less after you go through all the motions of chambering a round and flipping off your safeties while possibly having a gun pointed at you. Might as well be carrying a brick. Wait. A gun with one not in the chamber IS a brick. In MY book anyway.
  19. Does anyone know what happened to the % wildcard search capability? Seems to have been disabled. I have tried it several different times and in different ways on the form but no luck. Anyone?
  20. By the time youve driven around to all these stores youve more than paid for shipping in gas. Also, Ive purchased the Ranger's AND HST's online and never had to provide a copy of my drivers license. All of my dealings with these places mentioned have went without a hitch.
  21. Yes, they are their own PD, but they are Metro officers and work patrol for Metro when they aren't working at Vandy.
  22. Yeah, they are super strict and real a#*^@*es there. I have family who work inside the courthouse and am told that they all dislike that duty (the deputies) and have been assigned there because they are not even "patrol" fit. So they take it out on everyone who walks through there. They shout like a bunch of prison guards and are really hateful. They get irritated when you have to go through the machine multiple times but it's their own fault. I forgot my wallet one day and something in there set it off. Hell when I flew from BNA at Christmas I had forgot my belt and the machine didn't go off, so I know it's a matter of it being set real sensitive.
  23. Vanderbilt does not employ "Barney Fife" security. Every Vanderbilt Security Officer works for Metro police and is a Metro policeman. They are not Security Officers. They are employed by Vanderbilt through Metro Police.
  24. It's a good thing you weren't in Rutherford County. The deputy's there won't even let women bring in their purses, and ANY metal at all will set off the detector. I took off my belt and all change in my pocket, had no other metal except the zipper on my pants. I even took out my wallet. It ended up being a dime I missed in my pocket. Kinda overboard if you ask me.
