  1. I'm with you on being tired of what the Xmas season has "become," but I'd not keep my child from experiencing it. I think there could be a middle ground of telling her the truth when she's the appropriate age (whatever that age may be for each child). But just telling her from the get-go would rob her of a really fun experience. I can't imagine it'll scar a kid for life when they learn the truth. It didn't scar me.
  2. I've flown before with soft side luggage and the below linked handgun case without problems. Secure-It Handgun Storage Safe, Shooting Supplies at Sportsman's Guide
  3. I've got to agree with NRA on the fact of being undetectable when I really want to write a ticket. If I'm in the mood, I'll sit and watch hundreds of cars go by before ever estimating a speed high enough to activate my radar. If I had to guess, probably about 15 to 20 cars I stop each month are sporting radar detectors. And you can bet that everyone I stop for speeding that has one loses any chance they might have had of getting a warning (except for crimsonaudio. I like him). Of course, if I'm using my lidar, I get plenty of folks with radar detectors that have no concept of beamwidth and how lidars/detectors operate. I've sat there on the side of the road giving drivers a quick lidar class to explain why their detector never went off. There are plenty of officers who will either leave their radar transmitting or clock every single car that appears on the horizon. And yeah, that'll set a radar detector off in enough time to warn you to slow down. Just don't let that lull you into a false sense of security that you'll be able to detect every radar or lidar signal you may be coming across.
  4. Keep in mind, those are illegal in TN. Class B misdemeanor to use one to jam a speed measuring device and the jammer is subject to seizure. Personally, I'd rather have a speeding ticket than be arrested. Many radars & lidars (including the ones I use) have a little thing that pops up on the screen when it's being jammed.
  5. Nice fish. Looks like a great time!
  6. The Southern Comfort Eggnog is very good. Outside of that and homemade eggnog, I prefer boiled custard. The other brands of eggnog available at the grocery store are awful IMO.
  7. That was awesome! Thanks for sharing.
  8. Nah, that's clearly referring to traffic control devices and other signs - for example, it makes it illegal for me to buy my own stop sign on eBay and stick it in the middle of I-40.
  9. To my knowledge, there are no regulations concerning when they can be used. Kinda like your hazard flashers - common sense should pretty much dictate.
  10. There's no law prohibiting you from having one on the front of your car. So long as you have a correctly registered TN plate displayed properly on the rear, you're fine.
  11. That TCA only prohibits red or white lights visible from the front of the vehicle. My guess is because many vehicles' turn signal/hazard lights are also the brake lights. If they prohibited flashing red light from the rear, many stock vehicles would be in violation (although preempted by the federal vehicle regulations). So, if it's in his back window, he's probably okay. It's worth noting that most cops are very familiar with the desire to not be run over by all the idiots on the roadways. We pretty much ain't gonna mess with anyone as long as the lights aren't red or blue on non-emergency vehicles.
  12. As far as white: From TCA 55-9-402 No vehicle operated in this state shall be equipped with any flashing red or white light or any combination of red or white lights that displays to the front of the vehicle except school buses, a passenger motor vehicle operated by a rural mail carrier of the United States postal service while performing the duties of a rural mail carrier, authorized law enforcement vehicles only when used in combination with a flashing blue light, and emergency vehicles used in firefighting, including ambulances, emergency vehicles used in firefighting that are owned or operated by the division of forestry, firefighting vehicles, rescue vehicles, privately owned vehicles of regular or volunteer firefighters certified in § 55-9-201©, or other emergency vehicles used in firefighting owned, operated, or subsidized by the governing body of any county or municipality. Also worth noting, since there are many vehicles in this state in violation: From (a)(1) No nonemergency vehicle shall operate or install emergency flashing light systems, such as strobe, wig-wag, or other flashing lights within the headlight assembly or grill area of the vehicle... & From ((1) No non-emergency vehicle shall operate or install emergency flashing light systems such as strobe, wig-wag, or other flashing lights in tail light lamp, stoplight area, or factory installed emergency flasher and backup light area...
  13. You need no permit.
  14. That's good to know. I know where I'll be shopping when I get some disposable income. Provided I survive Christmas...
  15. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I couldn't agree with you more Robin - this forum and the people I've met through it are definitely something to be thankful for.
  16. I agree with the others. Best of luck and we hope to see you around occasionally!
  17. They have some good prices. Are their shipping charges reasonable?
  18. The laptop in my squad car is the same way. All other websites will stay logged in, but TGO will not. On my personal laptop, phone, and desktop computer, it'll stay logged in. No idea why.
  19. This.
  20. Google HR 218 or Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act. As long as he's qualified annually and meets the other requirements to fall under that federal law, he can legally carry a concealed weapon almost anywhere in the USA. See the law for the particulars.
  21. This story and the pics have been making the rounds for quite some time (2005/2006 or so). Somebody tracked down the original source of the photos a while back on another forum and the cause of the carnage was someone double or triple charging a handload. Not cheap Chinese ammo.
  22. Because his future is that bright... I really liked the video!
  23. Yep, I read his post wrong at first, too. Bottom line - there's no law requiring you to have ID when you are out walking the streets.
  24. Right. That is what '10-ring' was saying. None of us goes out planning to commit a misdemeanor, but if for some reason you found yourself being charged with one, not having ID may prevent you from getting a citation; therefor, it's a good idea to have your ID with you. I've accepted a passport one time before when that was all that someone had. It's legal enough for me. Nowadays with all the computers and PDAs on the street, it's easier for us to verify identity than it used to be. All I gotta do is punch a DL#, SSN, or name/dob in the computer and I can find the ID and the associated photo. There have been many people in the last few years that were saved from the jailhouse only thanks to the computer in my car. Of course, when the computers go down, there ain't a thing in the world I can do for them. And the state's computers go down often.
