  1. You want me to post that pic of you again?
  2. Not to go too far off topic here, but... If you elect to do the "inspection" in the ATF office, do you only have to bring in your bound book, or are you required to bring the firearms as well? I would assume that you wouldn't wanna drag your collection in with you, but the ATF never ceases to amaze me.
  3. Dangit capbyrd! Stop setting the bar so high for the rest of us!!
  4. I'm 6'5, 265. Not often I feel small. Thanks Big Zeb...
  5. There are no words for people like that.
  6. I'm wanting to say that I remember someone talking about it on a forum somewhere and the reviews were positive, but I can't say 110%... EDIT: Did some googling. Not a ton of reviews out there, but from what I found, it looks like the reviews of the ammo itself are mostly positive. A few complaints about shipping time and charges.

    Why Carry a Gun?

  8. Welcome!
  9. Welcome!
  10. Lamberts = awesomeness And flying in is the best. They actually ask you on the unicom if you're headed to Lamberts. If so, they send out a van to pick you up at the airport, then take you in through the back and seat you immediately.
  11. I'm Jon. I'm not very photogenic so there aren't a ton of photos of my ugly mug floating around, but this is a pic of my daughter and me at a work Christmas party while I was working last year. I've since had lasik and dropped the glasses, but I look about the same. EDIT: I lied. Found another pic. This one was taken when I took a couple of weeks off and could grow a goatee..

  13. DaveTN, the reason I have a HCP is "just in case". If I get pissed and quit (not likely), get suspended or fired (hopefully not likely), or anything else happens that causes me to no longer be allowed to carry as a LEO, I don't want to have to wait on the state to issue me a HCP. Another thing to keep in mind. Some departments restrict what you can carry off-duty. Until not long ago, either Memphis PD or Shelby Co S.O. (don't remember which it was) would only allow their guys to carry their duty weapon off-duty. Now, many departments require you to qualify yearly with whatever off-duty gun you want to carry and it must meet certain requirements. With a HCP, you can carry whatever you want to under the permit and not carry as an LEO.
  14. Thanks EAP. On page 3, there was a fellow talking about his similar revolver with a s/n of 540XXX. He said that a source told him 1927. Apparently S&W changed the ejector rod cap and the one like I have pictured is pre-1930. I'm going to guess that I can safely assume that the one I'm curious about was manufactured between 1927 and 1930. Someone else on there noted that this series of guns isn't extremely detailed in the "Standard Catalog of S&W's", so I guess I'll just save the trip to Davis Kidd (since every trip there causes me to spend too much money ). This gun currently belongs to my FIL, but sadly he's not going to be with us much longer. He's in the palliative care wing of the hospital. My wife brought it home from his apartment last night so that it didn't "disappear" in the coming days / weeks. I guess sooner or later, I'll request the "research" from S&W themselves since that seems to be the only way to find out 100% on these models. Thanks y'all!
  15. Thanks Sgt. Joe! From what I've found so far, the pre-WWII models did not have a letter in the S/N, so that narrows it down to 1914 to 1942. Hopefully someone will know more about this thing.
  16. The revolver pictured below belongs to my father-in-law. I've figured out so far that it's a pre-WWII Military & Police revolver (.38 Spl). I'm just trying to figure out exactly how old it is. I know that I can contact S&W and (for a fee, I think) they can research it for me. Does anyone happen to have a list of the serial numbers and their corresponding manufacture years? The serial on this one is 5428XX. Any help is appreciated!

    Rule #23

You know, if you made good coffee and charged a reasonable price, I have no doubt you'd have a successful venture. Hell, if bad coffee at high prices has been successful...
  19. I'm in! I won't be able to donate a lot since things are so tight, but I definitely want to help!

That's what my wife has been buying for the last couple of years. Aint' too bad in my opinion. Of course, I'm not too picky with coffee. I guess all the years of midnight patrol drinking 8 hour old Mapco coffee widened my tastes.

That is a good drink. I'll only drink it when I'm working and it's free (there's no way I'm paying 4 or 5 bucks for a drink), but it is good.
  22. Glad to have you, carbonarcher. Welcome to TGO!
  23. This. Find a JHP round from a reliable name. Shoot a bunch of it to ensure compatibility with your gun. Enjoy your new carry round. I've yet to see someone get shot by one name brand just to jump up and ask to be re-shot with a different one...
