  1. There's a huge price difference there. We're talking $20 or so compared to $60+. Can't justify the difference for a senior citizen's computer.
  2. Yeah. They're like Macs, but they sell for well under a grand and you don't have to visit the Apple Store and/or buy a whole new PC to upgrade or fix. At the price of an 80GB HDD, I'm really not planning to ever use the warranty. It'd cost nearly as much to ship it both ways as it would to buy another. Thanks for the other input guys. Slasher, I'll wait and see what you can find Monday. I don't have a problem buying the drive if your company has something setup to receive funds for sales of that nature.
  3. I'm fixing a friend's mother's PC and need advice from the computer gurus. Her HDD is bad and I'm searching for a replacement. After a few years with this computer, she's added less than 500mb of stuff, so storage space is not an issue. She's wanting it fixed as cheaply as possible, so I've been looking at 40-80GB hard drives. My question is this - the prices for brand new generic (or "house brand") HDDs and the refurbished well-known brands are roughly the same in price. Which one would you go with? Disk speed and space is not important since she probably won't be doing anything fancy. I know that the hard drive game is a crap shoot no matter what you choose, I'm just wondering what y'all think would be the most likely to last a while?

    Be my friend.

You just mean STD-free or do they actually gotta take weekly showers? I'm not in your area, but clearing that bit up may help narrow the search down a bit...
  5. Oh, it's "legal". It's just not constitutional. One more kink in the system that needs fixin'. I don't remember what the limits are on seizing cash, but they're low. I've gotten into arguments with other officers about the laws on seizing peoples' cash. If they get locked up and you seize the cash along with a pound of dope, fine. If you find a wad of cash and there's no proof of illegal activity, you leave it the **** alone! Legal or not, it's what is right.
  6. I was really hoping that they would end the promotion last night at midnight. I've placed three orders from them this weekend. My bank account really needs them to remove the temptation.
  7. There's no miracle "life saver" that comes standard in any vehicle. Yes, I can think of a couple of people involved in crashes I've investigated that I could send you to and they could tell you how they would probably be dead had they been buckled up. However, I can think of three times as many who would tell you how they wished that they had buckled up. Well, they can't actually tell you, but maybe their family could. All I know is from what I've seen in real life in my line of work. I don't base my decisions off of my best friend's cousin's half-brother's babysitter telling me about being thrown from a horrendous crash to safety and surviving only because she wasn't wearing a seat belt. Hell, it could be true - there are no guarantees in car crashes. I base my decision on what I've personally seen leading up to having to knock on someones door and ask them if I can come in and if they can have a seat so I can deliver some bad news. Everyone here is grown. Don't like seat belts? Don't wear 'em. Don't like the law on 'em? Contact your lawmakers. I'm not gonna preach to you that you should wear them if you're already dead set against them. I'm also not going to yell at you for not wearing blaze orange during rifle season while you're deer hunting, not wearing gloves when giving blood transfusions to HIV patients, not wearing a hard hat on the construction site, or for tasting the strange white powder that showed up in the mystery envelope. Your decisions are yours. So, too, are the consequences. An orange vest may not stop some moron from shooting me during deer season and a seat belt may hurt me more than help me in 10% of the crashes I could experience, but I find myself trying to tilt the odds into my favor whenever possible. YMMV
  8. It doesn't mean "item is SPIFFY!"? All this time...
  9. Or is the firearms industry the only industry that allows cash buyers to receive a discount instead of charging everyone a higher amount that would cover CC fees? I dunno, just thinking aloud. I, too, get tired of "cash discount prices" but we may be looking at it from the pessimist's viewpoint.
  10. Just curious... why don't you insure your home with USAA as well? I have everything (auto, home, guns) through USAA. Can't beat the prices and dang sure can't beat the service.
  11. Collierville P.D. - Patrol carries a Glock 22. Swat guys carry a Glock 21. Investigators/Brass issued either Glock 23 or 27 (depending on assignment).
  12. I'm not really sure. Never really thought about it before now. However, it's not that uncommon for gun shows to be held in venues that are carry-unfriendly. In some rural places, they've been known to have gun shows on school grounds. There is even a defense to "carrying weapons on school property" listed in TCA 39-17-1310 for "A person possessing guns or knives when conducting or attending "gun and knife shows" and the program has been approved by the administrator of the educational institution." Not really helpful, I know. Now you got me curious as to the status of the Agricenter. Anyone know?
  13. Can't say UPS is much brighter. This package here: http://wwwapps.ups.c...uester=trkinppg left out from right down the street via UPS 2nd day air (because the shipper sends all packages 2nd day air) on 04/17/2012. If you click on "shipment progress", you can see where all it went. Instead of taking it to the hub, putting it on a brown truck and dropping it off at my house the next day, they flew it to Louisville, KY where it got on a truck and headed to Nashville. From Nashville, it got on a different truck and came back to Memphis. I guess they figure that, if you pay for air, by God it's gonna get a plane ride! Next time I guess I'll ask if I can walk over and get the package...
  14. I would ask that they kiss my brass. I'm taking my brass with me when I go. If they don't like that, I'll gladly find another range to give my money to.
  15. Depends. My rule of thumb is this: Did you damage anything belonging to someone else? If yes, ticket. If no, no ticket. Pretty much my department's stance as well. So for someone dropping their car off in a ditch and tearing up only their property, I wouldn't issue a citation. Why add insult to injury? About two years ago, I had to work a crash where a wife rear ended her husband while she was following him to the shop to drop off his car. She did a fair amount of damage to both vehicles. Did I write a ticket? Nope. They're married, therefor both cars are community property. She only tore up her stuff. Her day was going bad enough...
  16. Maybe I'm old school, but I refuse to use an electronic scale for powder. I feel much better with the old beam scale. I know that there are some really dependable models out there, but I just can't do it.
  17. Yep. I am under the impression that this is a WalMart policy and the registers won't even allow the ammo to be rung up after 10:30. I was on midnight shift when Osama got elected and all the ammo dried up. There were a few times I stopped by Wally World on duty and saw that they actually had a few boxes of something I wanted on the shelf. Wouldn't / couldn't sell it to me. Standing there in the dang PD uniform, pistol and spare mags on belt, but couldn't buy any ammo. Guess they believe in the old adage that nothing good ever happens after 10pm.
  18. Whew! I was afraid I was gonna win one and have to build a whole 'nother AR around it! Thanks for the opportunity, Dolomite!
  19. Not being in a hurry is pretty much a requirement for ordering from PSA anytime. At least in my experience.
  20. 101 I've already purchased and used two of Dolomite's kits. Freakin' awesome, they are. Incredibly easy to install, and a hell of an upgrade for the low cost!
  21. I forgot the name of it (a quick Google search would probably turn it up), but there is a smartphone app that allows you to use your cell phone as that type of camera. Just get you a mount of some sort and it'll sit there recording on a loop (your choice of times). You'd probably have to keep your phone plugged in to the power port, but it's a very cost-effective solution. I learned about it after seeing a video on the news of a guy who used the app to catch someone trying to scam him in a very similar way.
  22. Well, I strapped my helmet down tight, stepped off the little bus proudly, and done it right! 'Preciate it, Strick.
  23. Is there any type of editing we can do to feedback? I just left positive feedback for ArmyVeteran37214 and, right after clicking submit, I realized that I marked him as the seller instead of buyer. I know this isn't a real big deal, but is there a way I can fix it?
  24. Yep. I've emailed FFL's many times and never had a problem. I do, however, recall seeing on a website or two where certain dealers or distributors would not accept emailed FFL's, but that's their preference, not law. The FFL eZ Check site makes it fairly safe to receive FFL's via just about any form of communication.
