Georgia tried pairing farmers with hunters a couple of years ago to help with hogs. Not sure how well that worked out. TWRA will still probably make it hard to hunt them once they become rampant here.

If you can handle a 5hr drive from Johnson City, Woods n Water in Wrightsville, GA might be worth a try for you. Me and 3 friends did a 2 day (night) hunt there. It's 1 hog a day though. We came out of there with 2 hogs, a coyote and a missed opportunity at another hog. It's fair chase on about 5000 acres total, so you may or may not get one but they have feeders everywhere with stands nearby. The night after we left somebody shot a 400 pounder.

Don't know anything about this place, but Gorilla Offroad has this on their site. Says you can mount a winch to it. Lp Adentures out of Canada sells some too that are bigger. They have US distributors on their site.
-
Until you said winch, I was going to suggest looking at the one Rally Innovations makes for the new WRX to mount lights and see if you could mod it to work. It's like a smaller brush guard but not heavy duty. I've "threatened" to put HD bumpers om my wife's Outback if she can't dodge obstacles better.

If you have a community college nearby, see if they have any listed under Continuing Education. Tennessee has a program that came out a couple of years ago to help adults get an enhanced education for little to nothing. Not sure of all the requirements but go to https://www.tnreconnect.gov/ChooseaDegree/CollegePath/tabid/5230/Default.aspx and you can type in "welding" and a radius to your zip code and it will pull up options.

Well that sucks to hear. Now that hunting season is over I was going to pull mine off and see if I had better luck with them a second time for the same defect. It doesn't sound like it would be worth the effort.

Charging Handles...how much to pay.
Shorty replied to hipower's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
AIM Surplus is running 20% Off right now on their charging handles if anybody is looking for one. -
I sent mine in for the same halo effect at the top end of magnification. All they did was clean it and say that was a normal effect of aging or some bs like that. Considering the scope was only 2yr old at the time and it only created the halo after a particularly cold hunt, I'd say they are full of sh*t.

Do they thread barrels there?

It was so warm yesterday and today I didn't bother getting out of bed. The forecast starting Thursdaylooks promising, low 40s for highs. I've only seen one shoother buck all season.

good cheap scope for squirrels ?
Shorty replied to tercel89's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have a cheap 4x Tasco on my 22 thats been on there since i was a kid. It works but for a few more bucks I would have chosen something else. I don't think this is the exact model, but I put a Simmons 3-9x on my dad's 22 when I had it for a while and it worked great. Dime sized groups at 25-50yds. Now that my dad's eyes have aged, he appreciates the little bit of extra magnification over the 4x on mine when he used to borrow it to hunt. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1156211994/simmons-22-mag-rimfire-rifle-scope-3-9x-32mm-truplex-reticle-with-rings -
Muzzleloader ban-suppressor edition..

. WTH??? Better get crossbows while they're at it since they can be silenced too. -
I have one on my 700. The detachable mag is nice, especially out hunting. I was a little concerned about the magwell being polymer, but it holds up fine. The action fit perfectly in mine and accuracy was not affected. Keep an eye open for deals and you can get the stock + magwell for essentially the price of the stock. I want to say I got that deal from Primary Arms.

When you say he can't work the slide, is it bc of how he's trying to rack it? My wife doesn't have great grip strength so she has trouble sometimes. On heavier springs, we got her to use the technique where, with the pistol in her right hand in front of her parallel to her body, she gripes the slide with her left hand. Using both hands, push the slide and the gripe in opposing directions to rack the slide. This uses more chest and arm muscles to rack the slide than just using grip strength.

It's been a bit dry lately, you might be able to hang some strips to dry outside on a tripod setup or make a rack. I would find a way to put screen around the meat though for the bugs and maybe a fan to speed up the process. If you get some smoke on the meat with salt, you can minimize bacterial growth, but I don't know how that affects the drying out process. https://goo.gl/images/VRZ1TF

I've heard of people putting it in a screened box to get good air flow but keep the bugs out, but it would have to dry fast enough or have enough salt to prevent bacterial growth. Maybe if it was cold smoked first? I saw Alton Brown had a way of doing it by putting strips in between air filters (the kind that won't leave filament in the meat) about 3 layers deep then bungee cording it to a box fan for about 24hrs. This way the meat is "cold" dried vs cooked (dehydrator). Never tried this method, but I may depending on my harvest this year, but I would probably use food grade mesh instead of filters.

Article says he modified them himself to be full auto but not how and they didn't have serial numbers. http://wjhl.com/2017/10/02/wcso-johnson-city-man-charged-after-deputies-find-automatic-weapons-over-900-rounds-of-ammo-in-stop/

Can't make it tomorrow, but I'm not missing next weekend. The temperature around here is going to be too perfect to miss. I have a decent 10pt on my trail cam that's begging to come home with me. Gotta get out there before he gets a better offer.

For the love of God, what's your chigger remedy???
Shorty replied to Wingshooter's topic in General Chat
I always used Caladryl after a hot shower. It seemed to work for a while. Never tried this, but it seems logical to me, is using baking soda. Basically the basic properties of baking soda should help to neutralize the acidic properties of the chigger's digestive juices in the "bite". I found a few natural remedy sites claiming it helps. -

That's chiggers. They don't attach like a tick. Think more like a spider. They bite, inject digestive juices and drink it up. -
Depending on time and date, I might be able to meet up. Juggling 2 kids, I try to save my free days for deer season or hitting the range (MSSA) but it would be nice to put a face to some names.

How's everybody fairing with the monsoon? The minor creek up the street from my house looks like a 4 acre, 20ft deep pond right now.

From what I have been told, the suppressor gives the illusion that the sound is coming from a different direction. Don't know how true that is. And as far as pigs on this side of TN, according to TWRA they can be hunted at Big Hill Pond and Shelby Forest. I have never seen any at either location, but my dad claims he saw some in the dove fields out at Shelby Forest. He's also had a Ranger tell him to shoot any that he sees.
