  1. x2 on those lights. I bought the AAA and AA last year and then bought several more AAA as stocking stuffers. I use my AAA all the time.
  2. I've got a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 (Vortex Tactical - Viper 6.5-20x44 PA Mil Dot Reticle) on my Rem 700 and have been very pleased with it. Its clear, easily adjusted (including parallax), feels/looks well made and, as stated, has a good warranty. I got mine online for about $400.
  3. They did it in the Deep Woods episode also except without using a firearm.
  4. I put one in my Jeep ('08 Unlimited) a few months ago. It seems a little bit more responsive but I haven't noticed any significant mpg gains. I've heard others state the same thing about allowing more dust into the motor, but I haven't had any problems with any of the vehicles I've put them in.
  5. It states it right at the beginning of the show that they are put in scenarios to simulate actual survival situations but have assistance if something goes wrong. At least they don't take the crazy chances like Bear Grylls, well not usually. Its entertaining if nothing else.
  6. Hydrogen Peroxide is good for cleaning away blood, but I would use something else for real cleaning. I'd have more confidence in reducing infection using Providine Iodine. We used to prep surgical sites with Chlorhexidine Scrub and then coat with Providine Iodine before making the incision. Also used silver nitrate swaps for smaller cuts to stop the bleeding. If the wound isn't huge, super glue (surgical super glue) can be used to close the wound if you don't have the right equipment.
  7. I've had 15, 20 and 35% on my cars. While 15% was nice, looks good and keeps it cool inside, it was difficult to see sometimes. 20% has been optimal to me for looks and function, but the last time I was in TN Tint, Wes told me the Bartlett cops were cracking down on tint and local inspection stations were giving people a hard time as well so I stuck with 35%. If I had a choice and didn't have to worry about it traveling or in-state, I'd go back to 20%.
  8. Looks like Speckled or Florida King snake
  9. Ozarka bottles seem to maintain integrity pretty well. I've had a few 3L bottles stored for 2+ yrs now that haven't lost a drop.
  10. You could always drain your hot water heater if you were in need of a temporary water source if you don't want to store a bunch of water bottles (would still store a few). Close the valve from the external water source and I think you would be ok.
  11. Last time I looked at their website to get more info, TAP is loaded with a few different ones depending on the application. I just bought a box of FPD last weekend to try out.
  12. Have a plan already arranged for your family and maybe a few friends like Enfield said, and depending on the distance maybe invest in a CB radio or HAM. If you want to go to the extremes, get a satellite phone or there's always homing pigeons.
  13. Badger rings and base is what I put on mine. Very solid setup.
  14. Don't know what brand that rod is, it was just the first image I found to illustrate what I was talking about. I've had the one I use since i was about 10 and its held up all these years so I'd say a decent quality one would probably hold up for a least a little while. I've caught bream, trout, crappie and smaller bass on mine and its held up pretty well, but like I said it's set up more along the lines of an ultra light. I figure though in a survival situation it will do fine for me and is better than nothing.
  15. Have you looked for or considered a telescoping rod? Collapsed its about 12-16in long, but extends out to a full size rod. I have one I use for my ultralight reel and it works great. Should fit perfectly in a pack or behind a seat.
  16. I second using a Camelbak for day hikes. I carry an Octane 8. Lightweight, expandable and adequate storage. Having access to hydration without taking off the pack is a plus to me.
  17. There's a place in Camden, TN that sells ESEE knives I believe. Look on their website and it will tell you for sure. I handled the ESEE-4 (same handle design as the 3) and the 5 when I was at Smokey Mtn Knife Works. The 5 has a more ergonomic handle and feels a little more natural in your hand, but the increased weight is definitely noticeable. I went with the ESEE-6 to get the same blade length as the 5 (only slightly longer) but with a little less weight to it. I've been thinking about ordering a ESEE-4 next. If you decide to get one online, try The Knife Connection. That's where mine came from and I read nothing but positive reviews of their service before placing my order.
  18. Besides the variety factor, consider buying beans like others suggested to get all your essential amino acids when combined with rice. Could become useful if meat sources get low. Also since antibiotics were mentioned, be careful not to use them to far past their expiration. Expired antibiotics can actually cause more illness. (I'm sure neither of these statements are news to anyone)
  19. It costs a few bucks more, but I really like my Blackout (non-serrated)
  20. I didn't like the 4 door Wranglers when they first came out bc it just didn't seem right for a Jeep to have 4 doors. (I had a CJ7 for several years) But now I own a 2008 Unlimited Rubicon and have to say making a 4 door model was a great idea. They have sufficient space now without being too big and the longer wheel base makes them a little more stable (and capable). I took mine wheeling 3 weeks after I got it and watch other Unlimited drivers make it up/through things the 2 doors would struggle to complete. The ride is surprisingly comfortable even though it is a little loud on the highway (soft top) From what you've stated I would go with the Sport S or MAYBE Sahara. The 18s on the Sahara aren't really worth it to me to spend the extra money unless you want a few extra creature comforts as well.
  21. I carry a medium sized pouch that fits on a belt in my car for day to day and I carry my day bag with me when I go out of town. -Pouch: 15-20' of paracord, flashlight, small first aid kit, mini-strobe light, folding blade, emergency poncho, matches, wet wipes, Swiss army knife, one large/industrial ziptie, 2 emergency water packages and a pair of gloves. -Daypack: +60' of paracord, wire, 6ft of duct tape, whistle, shake light, one chemlight, matches, lighter, flint/steel, small container of fire gel, cotton balls with vasoline, small fishing kit in an altoid tin, water tablets, emergency blanket (all in a waterproof bag), first aid kit, compass, multi-tool gloves, energy bars, filled 2-3L water bladder, 2 carabiners and my knife. And depending on the trip, a small pair of binoculars and pistol.
  22. have you used the Aquamira Frontier yet? I'm curious to the effectiveness of it. I've looked at those and the Frontier Pro as options for my pack, but I'd like to find some actual feedback to their capabilities.
  23. I went by Sportsman's Warehouse when I was out in Chattanooga this past weekend and they have some 15 gallon storage tanks for about $35. They were about 3 ft tall and 12-16in in diameter. Thought about getting one since it would fit well in a corner somewhere. Would just need a little hand pump to get the water out.
  24. I was looking at the ESEE-5 but saw some reviews on it saying that is was just too bulky. What's your opinion on it? I've considered the ESEE-4 instead.
  25. I have the same weapon as you. Considering the limited options on where to shoot, might as well go ahead and join MSSA. Even though owning another one would be great, there's no practical reason if you can't shoot either of them.
