I have this rifle with a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44, 30mm tube. I got mine from Midway for around $400. I looked through several other scopes before buying this one and it is equally as clear as any Leupold I looked through. Great scope for the money. I seem to get the best accuracy with either 168gr or 175gr. The only "complaint" I had with it was the bolt lever was a little difficult to cycle do to the closeness to the scope. A bolt knob easily solved that issue though.

I bought my ESEE 6 and then a Kabar and Rat3 from Discount Cutlery/Knives - Tactical, Collector, Hunting, Bushcraft, Pocket Knife No problems at all and fast delivery. A ESEE 3 will run you $96 shipped from them and arrives within a couple of days.

I'd be interested in this also. Damn, it looks like I'm the "kid" this time haha -
You might want to try hitting up Bikes Plus on Poplar maybe 1/2 mile past Forest Hill-Irene. The lady that runs that place is big into Adventure Racing and multi-sport racing. She might be able to give you some pointers on what to upgrade with. Cannondale would also be another good bike to look into from what I hear.

I like mine. I'd suggest getting some quality mags for it since the Kimber mags kinda suck and caused a few hang ups for me. Swapped them for Wilson's and it solved the problem. Would also consider upgrading the slide release. These two "upgrades" solved any issues I had before. On the flip side, my buddy has shot it a few times and says he'd prefer another 1911.

I'd be interested. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be as many folks over this way that think about it. One of my buddies and I have been considering/half joking about moving around Mid-Tn and splitting some land for this very thing.

x2 on those lights. I bought the AAA and AA last year and then bought several more AAA as stocking stuffers. I use my AAA all the time.

Best scopes in the $200-$400 range?

I've got a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 (Vortex Tactical - Viper 6.5-20x44 PA Mil Dot Reticle) on my Rem 700 and have been very pleased with it. Its clear, easily adjusted (including parallax), feels/looks well made and, as stated, has a good warranty. I got mine online for about $400. -
They did it in the Deep Woods episode also except without using a firearm.

I put one in my Jeep ('08 Unlimited) a few months ago. It seems a little bit more responsive but I haven't noticed any significant mpg gains. I've heard others state the same thing about allowing more dust into the motor, but I haven't had any problems with any of the vehicles I've put them in.

It states it right at the beginning of the show that they are put in scenarios to simulate actual survival situations but have assistance if something goes wrong. At least they don't take the crazy chances like Bear Grylls, well not usually. Its entertaining if nothing else.

Hydrogen Peroxide is good for cleaning away blood, but I would use something else for real cleaning. I'd have more confidence in reducing infection using Providine Iodine. We used to prep surgical sites with Chlorhexidine Scrub and then coat with Providine Iodine before making the incision. Also used silver nitrate swaps for smaller cuts to stop the bleeding. If the wound isn't huge, super glue (surgical super glue) can be used to close the wound if you don't have the right equipment.

I've had 15, 20 and 35% on my cars. While 15% was nice, looks good and keeps it cool inside, it was difficult to see sometimes. 20% has been optimal to me for looks and function, but the last time I was in TN Tint, Wes told me the Bartlett cops were cracking down on tint and local inspection stations were giving people a hard time as well so I stuck with 35%. If I had a choice and didn't have to worry about it traveling or in-state, I'd go back to 20%.

Caught a copperhead...or maybe a water moccasin......really a kingsnake
Shorty replied to brooksjr's topic in General Chat
Looks like Speckled or Florida King snake -
Ozarka bottles seem to maintain integrity pretty well. I've had a few 3L bottles stored for 2+ yrs now that haven't lost a drop.

You could always drain your hot water heater if you were in need of a temporary water source if you don't want to store a bunch of water bottles (would still store a few). Close the valve from the external water source and I think you would be ok.

Last time I looked at their website to get more info, TAP is loaded with a few different ones depending on the application. I just bought a box of FPD last weekend to try out.

Have a plan already arranged for your family and maybe a few friends like Enfield said, and depending on the distance maybe invest in a CB radio or HAM. If you want to go to the extremes, get a satellite phone or there's always homing pigeons.

Badger rings and base is what I put on mine. Very solid setup.

"Mini" fishing rod as a possible survival tool?
Shorty replied to JAB's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Don't know what brand that rod is, it was just the first image I found to illustrate what I was talking about. I've had the one I use since i was about 10 and its held up all these years so I'd say a decent quality one would probably hold up for a least a little while. I've caught bream, trout, crappie and smaller bass on mine and its held up pretty well, but like I said it's set up more along the lines of an ultra light. I figure though in a survival situation it will do fine for me and is better than nothing. -
"Mini" fishing rod as a possible survival tool?
Shorty replied to JAB's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Have you looked for or considered a telescoping rod? Collapsed its about 12-16in long, but extends out to a full size rod. I have one I use for my ultralight reel and it works great. Should fit perfectly in a pack or behind a seat. -
I second using a Camelbak for day hikes. I carry an Octane 8. Lightweight, expandable and adequate storage. Having access to hydration without taking off the pack is a plus to me.

There's a place in Camden, TN that sells ESEE knives I believe. Look on their website and it will tell you for sure. I handled the ESEE-4 (same handle design as the 3) and the 5 when I was at Smokey Mtn Knife Works. The 5 has a more ergonomic handle and feels a little more natural in your hand, but the increased weight is definitely noticeable. I went with the ESEE-6 to get the same blade length as the 5 (only slightly longer) but with a little less weight to it. I've been thinking about ordering a ESEE-4 next. If you decide to get one online, try The Knife Connection. That's where mine came from and I read nothing but positive reviews of their service before placing my order.

Besides the variety factor, consider buying beans like others suggested to get all your essential amino acids when combined with rice. Could become useful if meat sources get low. Also since antibiotics were mentioned, be careful not to use them to far past their expiration. Expired antibiotics can actually cause more illness. (I'm sure neither of these statements are news to anyone)
